    Kevin's mention of having difficulty finishing something in one sitting without getting up and doing something else, really hits deep with me. That is one of the things I've struggled with as a musician for so many years.

    listening to Kevin talk about being a kid and talking about his influences and idols is funny to me as a 15 year old, he my idol. I got into making music alone because of him. my 3 friends and I started jamming as a band because of him. I can't really put in words the love and respect I have for this man. I wish he could see this comment himself because I think it would make him smile and realize how much of an influence and role model he is for young musicians like myself. much love Kevin.

      I started at 15 inspired by music I loved, and I know you’re not asking for advice, but if you love it, go hard. Make the most of your time by becoming an expert in YOUR style. And share your sound with the world, they want to hear it.

      it's crazy cause your comment was the reason i started writing comments. before i always used to watch the video and scroll to the comments, but felt like i could never be one of the people contributing to the conversation. but seeing your comment at the top of a rick rubin x kevin parker video 3 years later made me realise that anyone can make a difference in this world. much love scrappy

    Being honest, at the beggining it kinda sounds like Rick doesn´t know that much about Kevin, but during the whole conversation he gets more interested in Tame Impala´s recording and creative process so much that in the end Rick ends up inviting him to listen music together. Fucking cool, they are both gods of the music industry.

      i know asking about his father in present tense when he literally has a song in TSR called "posthumous" forgiveness and his questions were pretty general, seems like he didn't do his research which is a shame

      Alexis Seam I’m a pretty big Tame Impala fan and I had no idea his dad had passed. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for Rick to not be aware of that. This podcast isn’t really the type to have a lot of pre-research. It’s very casual

    • @jasonlieberman4606
      @jasonlieberman4606 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Depending on ones interview style, research doesn't need to be considered a prerequisite for every single piece or conversation. Sometimes, especially with a unique cat like Rick, just an organically flowing conversation is great.

    Rick's questions, and his interviewing technique, are a clinic. Another of Rick's many skills. Parker's song "Yes I'm Changing" was my intro to Tame Impala and it often fills me an insane optimism, the kind like you're flying high and tomorrow could be a long way down, but today there's hope swirling in the blue clear sky, and the view is to die for.

    If Slow Rush doesn’t sweep every major music award I’ll be highly disappointed. This was a quarantine classic which is perfect for the state of mind we were all placed in unexpectedly. Kevin is the best of this generation. He’s on that Kanye ‘10-‘15 run... that Pharrell 2000 til infinity run, that Quincy Jones making Thriller at 50, young Axel Rose... when it’s said and done he may be the greatest ever

    • @coldacre

      yet he still said "we were playing songs that I’d written for us to play live…. and they were different to the ones I was recording at home or that we even had on Myspace". WE had on MySpace. its still a band. its no different to Radiohead. Thom Yorke is the sole song writer and there are plenty of songs from Radiohead that are just Thom. but he needs the other guys to play live. and Jay & Dom have been with Kevin since 2008. they signed the contract and Kevin can't play a gig without them. hell Jay's playing drums on a number of the early tunes and he even sings on one of the Lonerism b sides. Tame Impala is a band that Kevin writes and records the songs for. every time he gets on stage he says "hello we're Tame Impala"

      Just checked out The Shadows version of Telstar and it was a cheesy 80s travesty! I guess you mean the original version by The Tornados from 1962! :P

    haha, 'everything with drop d'', it's interesting, I grew up with Nirvana, but at the time when I was learning to play guitar, I knew about drop d but I kinda used it very rarely, I guess I wanted to sound more through Nirvana, like myself, what I wanted when I grew and grew, I never like to play songs of the other bands, at my beginnings at least.
    Weird and a great moment was when I played 'Aneurysm' before I heard the song, I knew Bleach and Nevermind but not that song, and I played the main riff thinking it's mine, it's so good and then I heard it... What a trip, never understood what happened, and how, you know?...
