I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

Jax is one of the best places to live for me. Been in San Diego, Anchorage, Hawaii and half of my life in the Philippines. The area doesn’t limit you from traveling to different states. It’s like the middle ground of everything, I take my family West (Springs), South (Amusement Park), North (Winter Snow), and while living in the east side year round by the water. Nothing beats it. Downtown is slowly booming and it will get there, it has so much potential with that water access. The beaches are awesome and you can drive you car to the beach.

I wonder if is it a good place for a family with small kids?
Is it safe from hurricanes? Is it top mucj criminality and does it affect you in daily life?Does it have good schools, good hospitals, good jobb opportunities, good standart and quality of living?
Does snakes and aligators appears everywhere like around the houses or in the park roads?
Please if you have a friendly advice for me,I would really appreciate it.

@@bobo-jx1mk It’s a good place, schools are good especially in St. John’s county it’s rated as one of the best if not the best in Florida. I would suggest to get a feel for the area first before committing on moving full time. That’s what we did anyways. As for crime rate it isn’t that bad, it’s the same as any areas you go there’s places that are prone to but not everywhere. Housing isn’t bad at all, that’s what makes people move down here coz it’s cheaper than being upstate. Jobs there’s tons of opportunities, I would scoop out how your current job would reflect here before letting things go, so your transition won’t be as bad.
The only thing out here that’s different would be the amount of driving you’re about to do coz Jax is massive. I highly suggest taking a trip here and check the area first.

We have great hospitals here. Mayo Clinic is rated 53rd in the world. Then you have UF health, Baptist etc. tons of options.
Gators, I haven’t seen one yet. Except in the zoo, I know there’s some but it ain’t as crazy as people say it is. Not as crazy as the south anyways. Tons of Gator fans though 😂 (University of Florida mascot)

My partner and have lived in Jax for almost 4 years and I def agree with most of the statements. We came from NY, so it honestly feels like an long term vacation. I agree the heat is STRONG, but it’s Fl so I just wait until after 6 if I can to go outside if it’s too hot. Unless we want to go to the beach. Honestly coming from NY traffic, I don’t find the Jax traffic to be bad. Unsure if it’s bc of the time of day I’m traveling or the fact that we have more than 3 lanes so that’s already a win. When it comes to things to do and public transportation, I agree, it can be better. I still don’t know how to drive, so I have to rely on my bf or Uber to commute which sucks when I have to be on someone else’s time. But again, I knew that’s what Fl was. It’s a driving state. When it comes to things to do, I do believe Jax is improving in that area. It def requires creativity of finding new things to do, but to me it’s worth it. And when they do have events, they do it well. Always something for kids and adults. Never overly packed. Relatively clean. And people are generally nice. Overall, I give Jax a solid 8. I do think it’s better when you make NY salary and live in Fl. When I was working in Fl, my salary was horrible. Def wouldn’t be living in the apartment/ community we do now if I stayed at that job.

Pretty good video overall..the older gentleman in plaid & the younger couple gave a better broad stroke picture of Jax.
Everything needed is here you just need to be plugged in to the right channels. The one thing not mentioned and I have stated this to my wife is Jax need to figure out a way to promo when events are coming. A dedicated social media platform, twitter, instagram etc pumping out what coming.
Unfortunately when you so hear about things it’s usually the day of the even or it has come and gone.
Everything being 30 minutes away is great…somethings you don’t want close to home.

My husband is from Chicago and we lived in Canada for the last 12 years, I’m Canadian. We were between tx and Florida and chose Jacksonville because it’s a big city and more opportunities… we’ve been here a month living in the north side and I think we made a mistake. I don’t love it here, I don’t feel safe but I don’t feel unsafe but I wouldn’t walk the streets. Pitbulls everywhere and I have chihuahuas, I can not walk my neighborhood and supposedly it’s not a bad neighborhood but it’s the worst I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. We are here because rent is reasonable and we are trying to not spend all our money while we figure out what we are doing. I feel like we should have never left Canada at this point and or gone to Texas. I hope that changes soon. We should have broke the bank and moved to the south side. This is just too hood for me.

Honestly I’ve seen a lot of videos of Realtors sugarcoating Jax for sales but this is the 1st one I’ve seen that’s actually pretty honest and straightforward. Interviewing a mix of locals that moved to Jax and were born and raised from Jax was a great idea!
Just to add my 2 cents, I agree with most of these opinions especially from brotha man lol. As a Jax Native who moved away but visits from time to time… I can honestly say it’s not that bad. There’s more good areas than bad areas and there’s stuff to do if you look hard enough, from the Central Area like Downtown, Murray Hill, Riverside/5pts, Brooklyn/San Marco to the Beaches, Southside & Towncenter, there’s something for everyone. I moved away because I ended up liking moderate seasons (that humid Jax heat 9 months of the year is oppressive), mountains & more bustling liberal cities(West Coast Best Coast) but if you’re someone coming from elsewhere in the country who want a cheaper cost of living, with the Fl lifestyle mixed with Georgia twang then give Duval a spin. Just avoid the Westside(Argyle is nice but that’s basically Orange Park) and the Northside (south of Dunn Ave and parts of Oceanway) & you’ll be alright.
Side note: That $5 Billion dollar plan better give Jax a new Landing, Theme Park, a light rail or something. I always said the peak of Jax was around 2013-2015 when One Spark was a thing. Jax was finally on the verge to get their own annual SXSW festival…but then it stopped. Unless you’re a SEC fan or a jazz fan, the Jazz Fest & FL/GA game ain’t enough. Oh & Go Jags. 😂

I'd like to know why you hated it when you first moved to Jacksonville. Specifically, what was it that made you not be excited or fall in love with the city when you first moved there? I'm considering moving there. I've lived in a lot of different areas; originally from Pittsburgh PA, but lived in Charlotte NC, stayed in North Myrtle Beach with family for a few winters several years back and then I have lived in Austin TX for the last 6 yrs and recently had to leave (very long story), but one reason to be closer to my parents. So, I'm looking into relocating back to Charlotte NC and lately been really doing some research into Jacksonville. Just depends at this point which city offers me a position --- but looking into learning more about Jacksonville because, for me, it's a whole new experience and I'm definitely enjoying what I'm learning about the city thus far.
So when people talk about the heat there, I guess I need to experience it because from living in Austin TX for 5 - 6 years, I can tell you a lot of people have the wrong idea of the heat there. Austin has subtropical weather and it can be EXTREMELY insane in the summers. We get the 100 (or more) degree weather with 50% - 80% humidity on top of it with no wind. Or the wind in summer seriously feels like you turned your oven to 450 and opened the oven door and BAM! That's the wind in the summer time in Austin. So, my two things I'm trying to learn more about is weather and crime (of course). This video was helpful on a certain level because you had people that lived there all their lives, but then I feel I need more input from people that are not from there from other states.
Anyways, sorry for the long comment. But I'd love to know what made you dislike the place in the beginning.

Not living in JAX but been to Florida a few times. I live in a major city in the South so yes it gets hot down here for a very long time.
The cost of living went up everywhere in this country from housing to food. I wouldn't rate JAX as an expensive city just a bit overpriced in terms of housing costs, but not too crazy like other big cities in Florida.
Every major city has crime infested areas but if you aren't into gangs , selling drugs or just be a criminal you aren't going to have to deal with crime most likely.

I did thorough research and have been here over a year now and I have to say, I’m enjoying it. I feel safe in my southside bubble I stay in. I have no reason or desire to venture off into the sketchier parts of Jax. I actually have been really disappointed to hear though recently that some bad apples came to the town center and caused commotion a time or two. What I like though is the police presence that has shown up. I noticed them patrolling daily and thought something must have happened and looks like I was correct. Once people realize this is not a forgotten area hence why it took little to no time for police presence to become routine, maybe they’ll keep their antics away from here.

I’m from Jacksonville but moved away in my mid 20’s for a number of reasons. Primarily the lack of opportunity. I return to visit family and friends once or twice annually and have noticed the gradual decay every time I’m in town. Little by little. My friends don’t seem to notice or care because it happened so incrementally. It’s sad to see. It has been suggested that I’m seeing it through the lens of nostalgia, but there is clearly more to it than that. There is a pervasive and quantitative amount of decline. No matter how much the city tries putting into renewal projects, its all just a cheap, soulless façade covering up the rot beneath.
