    I have no idea why Ireland didn't go into touch at 72'. This makes absolutely no sense to me, they could have been at 5 meter, launch a maul and play their characteristic rugby with strong percussion close to the line. On top of that, it was the bonus point try.

    • @conish64
      @conish64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’m Irish and I agree. Was screaming at the tv shouting for the corner. We needed a try either way to win and we hadn’t had many (if any) opportunities as good as that in the previous 70. To think we’d regather the kick and get into as good a position again in the remaining 8 minutes….doesn’t make sense. Unless we were playing for a draw which I’d like to think we weren’t. Having said that there was no guarantee we would have won the line out let alone mauled France over the line or created a try scoring chance. You’d have to think though If sexton was there it wouldn’t have been a question. Corner all day

    In term of skills and physicality, this game reached very high levels, but both teams will improve. Ireland can make progress in their breakdown and rucks area, France are still lacking precision on mauls defence and under high kicks. Clearly the 2 best sides of the NH (maybe the world), with France slightly better thanks to players like Villiere. A perfect combination of muscle, punch and flair.

      He absolutely did and more than marginal, it was reviewed from overhead camera which clearly showed it.

    • @vonteflon
      @vonteflon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doubt he did it on purpose by Dupont sort of held back a bit then accelerated into the ball which creates an optical illusion where it didn’t really look like a forward pass at the time. (I know everyone’s losing their collective shit over it after replays and the overhead angle).

    • @jsventer
      @jsventer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vonteflon The overhead angle makes it crystal clear it's a forward pass. Intention is not part of the rule, but along France matches you can also see some kind of intention. If you review the France - Italy, for instance, you will find at least three forward passes, but not as transcendent as this one. Also, along both games you can also see several uncalled offsides, mainly in rucks. At least twice, France defenders use their hands after the ruck is formed (and win it). I don't know if it's an strategy but they are really edging the rules.
      That said, France is doing an glorious exhibition of rugby.
