    Thanks for posting this.
Had the same problem with not one, but two of these fan controllers with the probe. It would only turn on when the A/C or defroster was activated. Tried putting the probe in boiling water and not even that would turn the fan/s on. Tried calibrating, still no luck. When I spoke to "Eric" at Derale, he was more concerned about correcting me about calling the temp. probe a probe, when that's exactly what it is!
"Eric" made it sound like the first unit I received was the first DOA unit he's heard about in years. "Eric" also said that he's never seen or heard of someone getting two DOA after I called about the first unit. Well, he was wrong again.
Hopefully this will save someone else the fustration, and the time of their lives they lose trying to install this POS. Luckily, Summit was able to return both of them and covered shipping costs. Talked to a supervisor at Summit about this particular Derale controller and hopefully they look into this.

Never had any issues with mine. Followed directions, fans kicked in at the temp I set. No issues. Kept my 60 over 350 cool even in stop & go traffic in Oklahoma's 109 degree heat.

The probe does not go up top. It must go next to the bottom hose on the radiator. You'll never get a good read of water temperature if its up top.
Mine worked perfectly in 100 degree Oklahoma summer weather.
Go back and try it again.

the directions and derale tech help say mount by upper hose, i can see a reason for either way

Just started your videos around 10p.m. It is now 3 o'clock in the morning. WOW! What a journey you have had, but I enjoyed every minute of it. It seems to have all come together well. I started watching because I was planning on rebuilding a 302 for a 95 Ford F150 that my grandfather used to have. I've learned a lot, and also learned that I don't have near the amount of money or knowledge to do the job as you do. But I do feel like I got to live a little of my dream through your videos. I absolutely love how small things urked you as they would me. Harbor Freight!? Oven Cleaner!? We may not look alike but are you my mental doppelganger!? Best of luck with the rest of the project and I can't wait til it's perfect!

It's not meant to blow on your AC compressor are you serious?!? what would that even do?? it's to draw air across the condenser so you can have AC while in stop and go traffic and at a stand still.

I've had bad luck with even the Derale thermostat controls for my cooling fans. I will say my issues were from poor soldering of connections internally and the factory over crimped the small wires cutting the strands. In the end a headache and waste of time/money.

got 2 units both are junk, installed 1 fans didn't come on engine coolant reads 246 degrees too! temp off radiator 242 done several adjustment and recalibrations , bench tested the spare unit with boiling water and test light , it didn't work ! left setup on few mins later it came on at room temperature, gave up. went with 2 separate dedicated relay setups one at 210-195 for aux 185-175 for main , 38 bucks for both setups and 50 for the 2 lower radiator hose housing adapter with was modify to accept 3\8 npt switch. works perfect ! main fan cycles on and off when needed, the aux comes on slow up hill climbs!

I know this is an old thread. I have this same unit and I had issues getting it going with by dual fan setup on a 70 F100 with a 306. The first on they sent me didn't work, got it replaced the second one worked for a while then failed. Turned out I had the yellow wire on the incorrect 12v source. Derale sent me a third which is running just fine. The deal is run your black (-) direct to battery (-), red (+) through the circuit breaker to the battery (+) then run you yellow wire to a 12vdc source not related to your ignition system, but one that turns on and off with the key - in my case I used the circuit that connects to my radio. The green I use a by-pass switch and not the AC compressor. At highway speed there is plenty of air flowing, no need to have the fans on cruising at 70. The instructions are decent, but could be more clear on especially the yellow wire. I too was a bit put off, but Derale worked with me every step and we got is sorted out. True, no issues would have been better.

I had a Derale dual fan controller FAIL on me within the first hour of installation at the dyno shop. I have dual 4000-cfm Derale puller electric fans. I also went through 4 Ron Francis dual fan controllers. I now have a Dakota Digital dual fan controller as exchange to be installed next week.

Wow. 8 years later mine is doing the same. I have all my control wire’s sending signals to the controller and power to the controller as well. No power coming out of the load side of the controller. I’m guessing the relays have gone. Not sure of the miles but I got 6 months out of this for my daily driver.

Yeah, it's been a couple of times there that a few didn't work, but I can tell u this, when I did get a good one, it lasted well over 3 million miles on my old truck and that's only cuz it got totalled and next one for1 year that truck caught on fire, I do understand ur frustration, I hope everything worked out good on ur engine.

I have an 07 Toyota Tundra with a 16 inch and 14 inch cooling fan. Keith, from dirty deeds.com out of Escondido California, fabricated a stainless steel plate which I then removed the French Road and attach the steel plate to the front or the back of the radiator. He was about to send out the fan kit along with this particular fan controller. After some extensive research, he determined that the Derale controller was not dependable and appeared to have a high failure rate. He then switch to Painless Performance F5 controller. I have installed the wires and this particular controller, however instead of using the radiator probe and or the upper radiator pipe, water hose fixture, I took the front water crossover had a shop weld and thread a half-inch temp sender unit. It was more work but well worth it. So far no problems with this particular painless F5 controller except I now need to relocate it since it's on the left inner fender of the vehicle. No fault of the F5 controller

Joe Ram how has that controller worked out for you, I had ordered the derale and just received it but have not installed it yet, I’m going to return it because I don’t want to go through the headache of possibly have one or two or three failure controllers, let alone it working for 6 months and then breaking when I’m on a trip somewhere.

Dude I can totally agree to this! I had one which was working well for a year in one of my cars, then I bought another for my other car, temp sensor wasn't activating fans. Derale were no help, so I got by for time being by using the manual override wire hooked up to OEM fan circuit... Then last week the one in my daily that had been fine for a while decided to shit itself (lucky I keep a spare relay in the car just in case!) I agree and can speak first hand for 2 units I've owned now THEY ARE SHIT AND NOT WORTH THAT PRICE! I'll be changing to a Davies Craig digital controller which is under half the price and you can actually remove and inspect the relays etc on it.
    Sorry, my 2c haha

I went through 3 of them...they all failed. I gave up. HOWEVER The shroud and fans I got from them were top notch. Must have had a bad batch of internals.

Good move on going to relays. I did the same. The electronic controllers are shit. So do you want to do it right? If you do, here are a couple of neat suggestions. Might cause some work but it is show quality.
First, fit the temperature sensor in the radiator, not in the fins. You'll have to take the radiator to a radiator guy to make you a fitting for your sensor. Remember the flow of coolant n your radiator so you put the sensor fitting in the right place. Sensors work better when they are in the radiator and hit by coolant.
Second, this one is really nice. You'll have to put a fitting in your discharge hose in the A/C, use a high pressure fitting, say it closes at 195 lbs/in. That way you turn the air on and the fans will only kick in when you are in stop and go traffic, if you are coasting down the highway at say 50MPH, the fans will not come on because the air exchange in the condenser is adequate and the high pressure will not raise.
I did this in a 91 GMC PU I had and it worked flawlessly. I had electric fans and I removed the mechanical fan. It made a huge difference in dropping down noise and also helped a little in the power output. Most people don't understand that the mechanical fans take power form the engine.
You don't need electronic junk, a couple of Bosch relays will work and they will last a long time.
Also, if you connect the relays hot all the time, the fans will kick on after you shut your engine down for a few minutes and will cool down under the hood real quick.

It works fine if you follow instructions. My ford killing Pontiac 461 stroker cools like a champ once you figure out how to get the appropriate signal to the yellow wire and adjust the screw for fan temp controls. I hope it continues working.

Any good fan controller should have a bi-pass switch to activate the fans.

Haha well it did I guess. The green wire was the manual override for the fan unit but only activated one fan. It's BS electronics. Made from sub-par materials.
