    Overall size of the fan is 16.5 x 26.5 x 3.5 with some wings that stick out you could use or just cut off.

    I grabbed two 10 inch pusher fans off a 2010 Land Rover SUV for $17 each at U-Pull and put them in front of my 1990 F150 AC condenser and now my AC went from 65 F in stop and go traffic with 96 F ambient to 47 F out the vents....Salvage yard OEM parts are far better and cheaper than new on-line knockoff garbage...great video!!

      I used a fusable link on the power side to the starter. I have not tested the amp draw on these fans but they are 400 watts I believe so a 30 amp would probably do it if you went with a fuse.

    Hello I have a 1987 mercedes 300d with the 3.L turbo diesel.
    Currently it has a clutch fan that i want to swap out for electric fan.
    The cooling surface on my radiator is 19x29. You have any suggestions for a fan
    I can use. I cant use a fan like what you have because there is no computer
    So I would need to run relays from temp switch. I live in the boise area which is often 100deg and up. And if you run ac the motor runs hotter than I like.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Robert

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This fan needs a PWM signal form the computer to work properly. I would just source a good OEM fan form a junkyard that will fit your radiator. If you can take the wiring that goes to the fan as well so you will have the correct gauge wire to put into your car. Make sure its done properly or you risk damage or fire if things get shorted out without proper gauge wires and fusing.

    Pretty good no-nonsense DIY video. I did something similar with a set of Ford 12" dual fans out of a 2002 Ford Contour. Ford uses Bosch motors but they are not brushless. I have them in a custom shroud, cut away all the excess material just saved some sections for flanges. Don't think they are as powerful as the SPALs you're using. I'm trying to cool a 461 BBC with a Holley double pumper using an external PWM. I want to know how you can control these fans, is there an aftermarket controller that will work with brushless fans? What about temp sensor? Gonna check out your page and see if you have the next steps. How big is the actual shroud section without the side wings?

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Im on Holley EFI so it will send a PWM signal to them directly. The controller is built into these fans so all you need is a signal. I think you can get an aftermarket PWM signal generator to run them but im not 100% sure on that. I have a few videos on the brushless fans so check them out and if I don't answer your questions in the video just leave a comment and ill get back to you. You can also find me on IG and send me a DM as well. Thanks for watching !

      @@Burndown I have discovered that GM rates those fans at 300 WATTS each, so its a total of 600 WATTS. The science is above my pay grade, but I'm curious about how much CFM that 600 WATTS is equivalent to. You have any idea? I haven't actually stuck a ruler on a set of Volt fans, but I _think_ the blade ring diameter is 12" and the flange opening would be around 13". I haven't been able to nail down this with the Spal web page, but I'm trying. I wrote to them (the Italian page) but no response yet.

      You would probably need a brushed fan because your not running a Holley. Maybe go on rock auto and look up some Silverado fans from the mid 2000s and see if something like that works. Make sure you use the proper wiring for them as they will probably pull some amps and you don’t want to burn anything up.

      @@Burndown 12 inch?? We're talking about cooling car engines, not computers 🙂. If you use the smaller C-class fan, you're looking at a little over 18 inches. Otherwise, if you want the big S-class fan, that's a little over 20 inches, but that one also comes with an additional 250 watts, so about 850 watt for the larger one. Actually, now that I think about it, you could source a smaller 12-13 inch fan from some of the the older model Mercedes like the w202 or even the w140. They came with 3 fans: a larger viscous clutch fan for the radiator and 2 smaller 12-13 inch fans for the condenser. Even still, those dual Bosch fans did put out a ton of air.
