I was thinking the same thing! My husband just bought author copies for a book fair he's doing but when he told me how much he had to pay I said it would have been better for him to purchase them retail as with the royalties he gets back it works out cheaper!

Hi Charlie, Great question. I do a print preorder for all of my books via IngramSpark so I am able to get author copies ahead of launch and could send those to my launch team. You could so go to a local printer to have copies made to send out early. I send my early reviewers a digital copy (eBook or audiobook if it is available). Most understand the book may not be printed yet. You can always send a physical copy after the book launches as a thank you. Best of luck!

With KDP you can order proof copies before the book is published (they will have a band printed across that reads "proof" ) or an author copy after you publish. You can print copies with a local printer to send out ahead of time if you only want them to go out pre-release. I would double check how you are pricing the book. Unless you have a very expensive shipping option selected or are making very very slim margins on the book, you should always save by ordering author copies.

No, you can't do a preorder for Amazon KDP print, just a pre schedule. Once the book is uploaded but not published or scheduled to go live you can order proof copies, they have the not for resale band on them. To order author copies the book needs to be published or prescheduled.

Check that you are logged into the correct account. Some authors have a personal Amazon account and one for their author activity. If you log in with the wrong email it would be empty

Not sure what you mean by different tools. But your paperback needs to be formatted differently than your ebook, KDP has tempaltes you can use to input the book into the correct format. Same goes for the cover, they have templates to use to make sure there is enough bleed/trim. If you are having issues, I suggest checking out Formatted Books. Purple tint to print, printed crooked on page... Pages stuck together. Hi Juanita, I've not have those specific issues but I seem to have problems every time I order author copies from IS and they print out of Fresno, CA. Boot prints on my books. Shipments that don't get from the warehouse to USPS. Book pages falling out. Seems each company has their own weak spot for quality. If you have already photographed and documented this then I would wait for their process to resolve and get some makegood copies. In the meantime, if you need more copies I would suggest ordering more to have in time for your signing. Best of luck!

It depends in where you are sending them to. If you are sending them to a retailer website, their POD service will send it. If you send to your own website you have to manage inventory and shipping or work with a drop shipper to do so

When you preview the eBook when you upload you can download a copy to your computer so you don't have to purchase the digital copy, no. If you want a print copy then you just pay print and shipping cost for an author copy.

No hope 😭😂 my friend has a book series and a chairty and i have become an admin for her, so she trained me up to use kdp to order books, she showed me the ridiculous way you have to do it by having to open uo kdp EVERYTIME 😂 i was like instantly NOO! You can set up the book and order a proof copy before it is available on sale for anyone to buy. You can only order an author copy without the band printed around the book once the book is live. So readers could buy it and if you spot issues it is already out in the world
No it doesn't ordering my author copies on KDP has been impossible the only that was easy was publishing my ebook. Everything else has been like pulling teeth. The stupid cover creator took 3 hours. For hardcovers it just says "In Progress" did it work am I gonna get copies are they making them?"

Yes, author copies look just like one a reader would buy. Proof copies have the "not for resale" band printed on the front.

why are there quantities? I thought amazon kdp was print on demand?

When you preview the eBook when you upload you can download a copy to your computer so you don't have to purchase the digital copy, no. If you want a print copy then you just pay print and shipping cost for an author copy.

Nope. No rule against it but Amazon won't count those sales towards your rankings.

No hope 😭😂 my friend has a book series and a chairty and i have become an admin for her, so she trained me up to use kdp to order books, she showed me the ridiculous way you have to do it by having to open uo kdp EVERYTIME 😂 i was like instantly NOO! You can set up the book and order a proof copy before it is available on sale for anyone to buy. You can only order an author copy without the band printed around the book once the book is live. So readers could buy it and if you spot issues it is already out in the world
No it doesn't ordering my author copies on KDP has been impossible the only that was easy was publishing my ebook. Everything else has been like pulling teeth. The stupid cover creator took 3 hours. For hardcovers it just says "In Progress" did it work am I gonna get copies are they making them?"
