I live nearby and visit every other month. I always struggled to visualize what the town really looked like before the Civil War ravaged it, and this game really helped. Crazy how so much has changed yet so much hasn't.
As someone who visited and stayed in Harpers Ferry for a weekend to attend a wedding nearby in Virginia, it is so cool seeing the town re-created in the game. They did a good job with historical preservation irl, and the village really is in a beautiful spot. Definitely recommend stopping by for a few hours or a day or two if you’re nearby, and there’s great hiking and plenty of outdoors activities in the area.
its incredible to see that many historical locations like that had death everywhere, but so many years later, the same spot where someone died, a little kid drops his ice cream, or a man stops to text someone. when i think about how time moves on, it makes me appreciate history like this on a macro and a micro level.

One of my favorite games was Assassin's Creed, revolutionary times, and Black flag....pretty much anything historic. This game seems like fun...even with the low reload speeds. Forces you to rely on the tactics.

There is no single player, unfortunately. The only game I can think of Darkest of Days. I think this game would only be playable on Windows 10 or earlier.
As a military reenactor IRL.... i can attest to the fact that an 1842 smooth-bore Springfield musket kicks like a dang mule ,when firing buck and ball......and the target ??.... vaporizes if hit just right,lol.

In public servers I think you get to choose to be the leader; if you want. If you're part pf a Regiment and do Campaign Events, typically there's a leader already assigned.

The regimental leaders were they work for the game? Or were they voluntary players im sure they got perks as im guessing they had alot of knowledge or decent amout on the history of the civil war?
This was a campaign event so the regimental leaders were experienced. Most of the players seem to have a good idea of the civil war and really enjoy it for the history.
For those that don’t know a “buck and ball” is basically a shotgun cartridge for a musket rather than its regular ammunition and that’s why it was perfect for this type of street battle.
@@ont1cI've played both and IMO Holdfast is way more fun, but a lot of it is the people on the servers They definitely don't take themselves too seriously even the line battles get funny.

Because a combine arms, large scale war with multiple different people to communicate with is much more manageable than a single player experience. Although I wish there was more historical single player games tho.

I just purchased this game on Steam ($14.99). Looking forward to installing and enlisting to fight bluecoats or gray backs depending on my mood. What is “buck and ball”? Ball refers to the Minie Ball, right?

Completely agree! I went a few years ago and had a blast. I was very surprised how accurate this game portrayed Harper's Ferry to be.
i know the one battle that happened there with the escaped slaves, but is the battle there doing know fiction, or non-fiction?

Pretty sure the Union garrison at Harper's ferry surrendered before any real fighting in the town
Man, why do they not make single player games these days. Nothing is better than a long campaign with rich story telling for me. It's a pity that such history games are only multiplayer these days. This one, Verdun, Hell let loose and others

This game is more about being a digital version of Civil War reenactment though
Because a combine arms, large scale war with multiple different people to communicate with is much more manageable than a single player experience. Although I wish there was more historical single player games tho.
I hear they are coming out with an even more action packed War of Rights II where you stand around and watch grass grow.

Sadly, games set in the Civil War have to have small tractions and can't be mainstream because the activists would have a fit.

How do you turn on the hud? I can’t fine any settings to add the player names, timer, points, etc.
Press "T" while in game. The hud will appear briefly then disappear. There's no setting for it to stay visible permanently.

I tried selling this game to my boy Duke, trying to hype this game up so he could play it, and the buck and ball comments that were said over and over again made him not wanna play the game. :/
That was our regimental leader. Comms aren’t that repetitive in most matches.
No offense, but if your friend bases playing the game on how some random dude that he’ll probably never play with talks, he’s pretty weird.
