It's about 13 episodes per season (which is a terrible idea, since each season is, like, three entire volumes per, I think, and it cuts a lot of important content). It's not entirely action! It's actually worldbuilding!
I REALLY like Shane's comment about AFO'S manipulation because I really believe this is All an act for him (AFO) particularly with Shigaraki. I think Shigaraki was born quirkless and AFO gave him that Decay power. everything he touches turns to dust It is very difficult use that heroically its not really a strong power as he needs to touch his enemy. Plus AFO sacrificing himself going up against All Might when he could just escape to let the League escape will motivate Shigaraki to hate All Might

At some point someone’s gonna have to tell them cause they can’t remember Shigaraki’s name to save their life, All for Ones gonna do the big reveal and they’ll just end up scratching their heads going who’s that? I love these guys and names are hard but seriously we’re 2.5 seasons in and ya can’t remember the main antagonists name

The revelation that Kirishima and Bakugo's friendship was the key to the plan working was my favorite moment of the manga for a long time. It's rare that a protagonist makes a plan where they aren't the central figure and that Deku picked up on and acknowledged that Bakugo is closer with Kirishima than even himself, who hes known since childhood. Thats so freaking good imo. It was also the start of my love affair with Kirishima.
I love that moment too. Espesially since Kirishimia has been my favorite character since the attack on USJ. I love how much he cares for his friends. With a quirk as his i dident expect him to have the characteristics that he have.
It's a good build up and twist to the protag being the focal friend. I think Bakugo was smart enough to grab anyone's hand, but the fact that Kirishima got shine time was nice. I look forward to other characters getting their moments.
It's also pretty sad. Deku is fully aware Bakugou hates his guts despite them being "childhood friends". For a majority of their life knowing each other Bakugou is either belittling or bullying him. Yet, Bakugou's known Kirishima for a period of a few months and already has a better relationship with him than Deku could ever wish to have.
*Best Jeanist will always be the absolute MVP of this episode.* Without him every hero at the Nomu factory would be dead. I love that even AFO gives him props for his incredible skill with his quirk and indirectly commends him for the incredible hard work he had to have put in to make his quirk as strong as it is now by saying that he wouldn't benefit from taking his quirk since it was Best Jeanist who made that quirk powerful and not the other way around.
I wouldn't say Best Jeanist is the MVP. You mean he's above All Might, Midoriya, and Bakugo? Impossible. All he did was die. Edit: apparently he didn't die. Good for him, but still not most valuable player.
@@theblackswordsman9951 the point of not having anyone named die is because all for one and all might are severely diminished in this fight. all for one can't breathe without artificial assistance and is running low on quirks, and all might's not only running low on stamina and life himself, but without actually having one for all, all he's got are the dregs of the power he used to have. from the promo one shots for the movie that were released in the manga, we see that all for one in his prime killed with so much ease and carelessness that i wouldn't be surprised if he expected that attack to kill jeanist, but hadn't taken how weak he had become into account.
I gotta say, finding a way to fit the actual show footage in there was a pain for FL lol, wish they'd angled the camera down a little bit more now that the shot is so far out.

I love how much they made All for One abuse All Might's "I am here!" mantra in the dub. It's so chilling and uncomfortable, the way he just completely corrupts and perverts something like that. And it's great that he's not just a generic "You failed, so you will die" villain boss. He actually cares about his subordinates and wants to protect them, which makes him a lot more interesting as a character than if he was just a 100% evil asshole.
Especially when he pulls him away, its such a slap in the face unlike in the sub where it just a line that is similar and doesn't feel special. I just wish in the following episode they continued that mockery and him use All Might's other catch phrase in combination with his name for his "plan". If thats super vague its meant to be, don't wanna spoil.
Wolf6120 Almost 100% sure that All for One doesn't give two shits (maybe a single shit, but that's as much leeway as I'll give) about Shigaraki. He's clearly manipulating him. (the other subordinates he saved for Shigaraki's sake as well) I thought the genuine attachment Shigaraki felt towards All for One was the more noteworthy aspect of the relationship.

I really, REALLY like All for One parroting All Might's "I am here" line in the dub. The sub had him say something similar, but changed up some words: While All Might always says "Watashi wa kita," All for One said "Boku ga iru." The first difference is just a change in personal pronoun, but I believe the second part (not a Japanese expert) makes it something like the difference between "I am here" and "I have come." I'm sure there's a reason they made that distinction in the sub, but I love that they didn't keep it in the dub. Throwing All Might's catchphrase back in his face seems like exactly the kind of thing All for One would do.
I guess they went for more of a mirroring of the phrase, or inverting it even, whereas the dub they made it a corruption of the catch phrase, which comes across as more of him mocking All Might. If it's done like that as a mirroring of the phrase I guess it sorta makes it more like say, Transformers, with Optimus and Megatrons whole "One shall stand", and "One shall fall" moments. I guess it works well either way

I'm late but god damn, why people are still going about that? Even now some people still think that xD. The show literally says "Bakugo didn't wanted Deku to save him because of his pride". It literally says that one or two episodes after.
@@idk-ye7ur the writer confirmed actually that bakugo wanted to protect deku, it was only said in the show because that's what deku believed was bakugo's intention. in the sub, the voice actor for bakugo actually recorded the line 'don't come, deku' twice, once for the actual moment this happens and once for deku's memories of that moment and in the memories of this moment, the words sound a lot more angry than in the original moment because that's how deku sees that moment, yet it's not actually like that
I love how the crew picked up on Best Jeanist having a "bad" quirk, but he's great because of who he is. That plays into the end of this season as well, so it'll be great seeing them react to that!

Rewatching this at the end of 2020 and having caught up to the manga - all I can say is you guys as always are astoundingly close with your breakdown and theories.
Is your table made from mahogany? And not just any mahogany either, but the mahogany from Malchior 7 where the trees are 300 feet tall & breath fire? And was the table forged using the ancient blood rituals of the Malchior people making it nigh indestructible & bend the fabric of the universe itself? Because I never knew it could fit that many people. It's amazing. .....Mahogany.
On the dub v sub debate - I happen to think that MHA's dub is superb, and I do enjoy it a lot. That being said, one of my favourite things that gets lost from the sub is necessarily the "Engrish" Allmight peppers his speech with - really highlights his Americanophilia even more. I really love the quality of the discussions here, and Akasan's contribution is excellent, gives the group a whole new vibe!
I'm not surprised that they didn't catch the "NANA SHIMURA!" thing considering they've always completely sucked at names lol, but you would at least think that, with the episode specifically ending on that name in particular, it would make them think there was *something* to it lol.
Well that something could have quite easily just been his masters name. Also how would they catch anything out of that name? Even if they remmeberd names, it isn´t even the same last name.
All for One has said "Tenko Shimura" like 8 times in the last two episodes, it's absolutely possible to have made the connection, they're just not great at keeping track of names.

The confusion lies in the passing on quirk that the original user had. Does that passing on quirk just pass on the stock piled power? Or does it do that AND pass on other quirks?
I mean does it mean that if Shoto got OFA could produce more fire and ice with that stocked pilled power? Honestly giving this amount of power to a quirkless person is stupid.

The thing about One For All, it's quirk that get stronger every time it passed on to next person, so one day when Deku able to master OFA, he can strengthen it even further.
No, it's not. We saw All Might in his scrawny form as a teen in Gran Torino's brief flashback to when he was training him, decades before All Might fough AFO. All Might's buff form is merely his charisma affecting the art-style he's drawn-in. Nothing more, nothing less. It's the same trope of in-universe emotions interacting with the art-style that's nigh-omnipresent in manga and anime. Or are you in the camp that thinks Deku's Quirk is having hoses for tear-glands?
Verebazs all might was in school at UA where gran Torino was training him, he was most likely a teenager so of course he wouldn’t have been buff. And even in that scene Gran Torino said to deku that when all might got one for all he knew how to use it straight away and that the only thing he (all might) had going for him was his body so he only needed to train him physically. So the buff body isn’t because of an effect from one for all but because of all might’s physical training. This is the very reason deku has to resort to using one for all in increments because his body cannot handle the blowback from the power but all might’s body could because he’s always had good attributes with regards to his physique.
Now for the 1000th time the buff form is All Might's true form in the flashback where he was training with Gran Torino he is already well build later there will be a flashback that shows him during his time with Nana Shimura wehre he is also very Muscular but not as much as now let me say it like this im a manga reader i know it. Kōhei Horikoshi draws All might different because he is build after a lot of stereotypes of US Superheroes that is all.
I always thought of his muscular form as his actual quirk. He'd never know about it because he wouldn't have the inherent strength needed to maintain that form. And knowing some things he can do later after the next episode, it feels more implied that it was his original quirk since *spoilers ahead* He's able to still go into muscle form after he loses one for all, but only very briefly due to him not having the power to keep the form going.
They seemed to forgot the backstory of All for one. All might and AFO were never friends. If you remember when All Might was telling Deku about AFO, he said he was a first generation Villain who took over Japan and took quirks from whoever he wanted. He's been alive since the beginning of quirks and stopped aging with a quirk he stole. The original "all might" was AFO's brother who then passed down to a bunch of people, eventually to all might, with the goal of beating AFO (since the power increases with each holder of OFA). Also. in regards to the OFA power - AFO's brother already had a quirk to stockpile power. AFO gave him a useless quirk that lets his pass on a quirk (a quirk that lets you pass on a quirk). They somehow combined and become One for all. so it would stockpile power and then pass it on. So AFO's brother was weak as fuck, but then he passed it on, letting the next person train and stockpile power. Then on and on it goes until it gets to All might and eventually Deku. So each person who inherits it is potentially stronger than the previous user; after training. So Deku is stronger than All Might after all his training is done. He even says in 1x1 that "this is the story of how I became the greatest hero". It's not a spoiler, it was all explained in previous episodes (2x20 if i remember correctly)
Spoiler Remember Togata was originally the candidate to inherit One For All, but it was given to Deku instead. He'd be so broken with his own quirk, plus One For All. Geez.
I will forever contend first half of this season is some of the greatest anime ever produced. Each episode just ramps up until it explodes in episode 11 with some great falling action in episodes 12 and 13. Waiting week to week for the entire Bakugo rescue arc was amazing.
I think the crazy part is that you see how powerful All For One and All Might Are, but neither in their prime. Both are not only older, but suffered debilitating injuries, robbing them of their strength. Remember All Might had to hit the Nomu like 1000 times before it went down, but he said at his peak it likely would have taken only 4.
I feel like people don't talk about how freakin terrifying All for One actually is. Stain's killing intent was pretty strong but All for One's is on a whole other level. The fear in those characters faces actually made me uneasy and have a pit in my stomach. I felt like I was right next to Deku in the scene. Plus on top of all that AFO's soundtrack adds an even better level to the fear
Ugh, the feels. Just reliving the episode is just bringing back so much excitement on why I love this show. The next episode is going to mess you guys up! Can't wait for the next reaction. Keep up the good work!

Im also a teacher, and I definitely vibe with what Akasan was saying in the beginning. I only started watching the show because I saw yagi toshinori’s injured form and thought that was such a fascinating concept. And ever since then my favorite characters have been Aizawa and Toshinori (as Toshinori not All Might, although I have made respect for him as a hero). I love how much experience with kids is shown to make a difference between the teachers. Toshinori is a godawful teacher, but is actually trying to improve. Which means he’s a great teacher. This show makes me miss teaching so much (curse you chronic pain and fatigue; oh and COVID too)
Bakugo launching himself up towards them was AMAZING! Grabbing Kirishima's hand like that! And I saw that smile, Bakugo! Friendship!!(is magic! ;p) Though, I wonder if it hurt Izuku to admit all that. Both heartwarming and tear-jerking! And Mt. Lady and Best Jeanist! Everything!! XD
It was explained. Its a quirk that passes down itself, combined with a stockpile quirk. So you have it, work out, pass your strength down, and then they do the same, and by the 8th guy, they can destroy mountains with the shock waves.
Not gonna lie, I haven't watched this ep in a while and I got SO HYPED again just watching the reaction! Seriously 9, 10, 11 are just so freaking amazing!

I know this is like years ago, but I'm almost sure it was explained that One for All is an ability that allowed them to pass their ability to others, and the original guy was given the power to Stockpile. So my understanding is, that it's accumulated power from each wielder that gets passed down. Now either: 1. only the person's actual physical strength gets passed down, as normal powers cannot be passed on nomatter how much dna you give or 2. only quirkless people have been given this power before, so no one has had any powers to pass down which is why only physical strength had been stockpiled. That's my understanding/theory anyway.
it was implied that the quirk to pass on power and the quirk to accumulate power fused together to create a new quirk one for all. if a quirk user received the power i dont think the quirk would pass on unless it was compatible to fuse again which would technically create a new quirk

I really, REALLY like All for One parroting All Might's "I am here" line in the dub. The sub had him say something similar, but changed up some words: While All Might always says "Watashi wa kita," All for One said "Boku ga iru." The first difference is just a change in personal pronoun, but I believe the second part (not a Japanese expert) makes it something like the difference between "I am here" and "I have come." I'm sure there's a reason they made that distinction in the sub, but I love that they didn't keep it in the dub. Throwing All Might's catchphrase back in his face seems like exactly the kind of thing All for One would do.
I guess they went for more of a mirroring of the phrase, or inverting it even, whereas the dub they made it a corruption of the catch phrase, which comes across as more of him mocking All Might.
If it's done like that as a mirroring of the phrase I guess it sorta makes it more like say, Transformers, with Optimus and Megatrons whole "One shall stand", and "One shall fall" moments. I guess it works well either way

@@Step43099 The Bakugo moment was just as important for how much time it took. The real issue is that they exaggerated it to all hell and missed the explanation of how tired Bakugo was. Not a big issue but still a minor one.
To be fair, this fight more so focuses on the emotional weight between the relationship of the two rather than being spectacular to look at.

Well that's to be expected. It's not like Bakugou's gonna pull a complete 180 and start being the nice guy, that would be unrealistic. It's more important that he's less hostile towards Deku and doesn't look down on others anymore. At the start of the series it was very easy to hate him, but Horikoshi managed to make him a fan favorite character just by how much he's developed... Who happens to still be an ass.

@@idk-ye7ur the writer confirmed actually that bakugo wanted to protect deku, it was only said in the show because that's what deku believed was bakugo's intention. in the sub, the voice actor for bakugo actually recorded the line 'don't come, deku' twice, once for the actual moment this happens and once for deku's memories of that moment and in the memories of this moment, the words sound a lot more angry than in the original moment because that's how deku sees that moment, yet it's not actually like that

Rewatching this at the end of 2020 and having caught up to the manga - all I can say is you guys as always are astoundingly close with your breakdown and theories.

On the dub v sub debate - I happen to think that MHA's dub is superb, and I do enjoy it a lot. That being said, one of my favourite things that gets lost from the sub is necessarily the "Engrish" Allmight peppers his speech with - really highlights his Americanophilia even more.
I really love the quality of the discussions here, and Akasan's contribution is excellent, gives the group a whole new vibe!

The confusion lies in the passing on quirk that the original user had. Does that passing on quirk just pass on the stock piled power? Or does it do that AND pass on other quirks?
I mean does it mean that if Shoto got OFA could produce more fire and ice with that stocked pilled power? Honestly giving this amount of power to a quirkless person is stupid.

The thing about One For All, it's quirk that get stronger every time it passed on to next person, so one day when Deku able to master OFA, he can strengthen it even further.
All might’s buff form is his real form, the scrawny Form is the result from his injury from his fight with All for One five years prior.
No, it's not. We saw All Might in his scrawny form as a teen in Gran Torino's brief flashback to when he was training him, decades before All Might fough AFO. All Might's buff form is merely his charisma affecting the art-style he's drawn-in. Nothing more, nothing less. It's the same trope of in-universe emotions interacting with the art-style that's nigh-omnipresent in manga and anime. Or are you in the camp that thinks Deku's Quirk is having hoses for tear-glands?
Verebazs all might was in school at UA where gran Torino was training him, he was most likely a teenager so of course he wouldn’t have been buff. And even in that scene Gran Torino said to deku that when all might got one for all he knew how to use it straight away and that the only thing he (all might) had going for him was his body so he only needed to train him physically. So the buff body isn’t because of an effect from one for all but because of all might’s physical training. This is the very reason deku has to resort to using one for all in increments because his body cannot handle the blowback from the power but all might’s body could because he’s always had good attributes with regards to his physique.
Now for the 1000th time the buff form is All Might's true form in the flashback where he was training with Gran Torino he is already well build later there will be a flashback that shows him during his time with Nana Shimura wehre he is also very Muscular but not as much as now let me say it like this im a manga reader i know it. Kōhei Horikoshi draws All might different because he is build after a lot of stereotypes of US Superheroes that is all.
I always thought of his muscular form as his actual quirk. He'd never know about it because he wouldn't have the inherent strength needed to maintain that form. And knowing some things he can do later after the next episode, it feels more implied that it was his original quirk since *spoilers ahead*
He's able to still go into muscle form after he loses one for all, but only very briefly due to him not having the power to keep the form going.

All for one’s theme song is amazing tbh. It’s a haunting opera style song to contrast All Might’s All American style rock. It’s so perfect.
They seemed to forgot the backstory of All for one. All might and AFO were never friends. If you remember when All Might was telling Deku about AFO, he said he was a first generation Villain who took over Japan and took quirks from whoever he wanted. He's been alive since the beginning of quirks and stopped aging with a quirk he stole. The original "all might" was AFO's brother who then passed down to a bunch of people, eventually to all might, with the goal of beating AFO (since the power increases with each holder of OFA).
Also. in regards to the OFA power - AFO's brother already had a quirk to stockpile power. AFO gave him a useless quirk that lets his pass on a quirk (a quirk that lets you pass on a quirk). They somehow combined and become One for all. so it would stockpile power and then pass it on. So AFO's brother was weak as fuck, but then he passed it on, letting the next person train and stockpile power. Then on and on it goes until it gets to All might and eventually Deku. So each person who inherits it is potentially stronger than the previous user; after training. So Deku is stronger than All Might after all his training is done. He even says in 1x1 that "this is the story of how I became the greatest hero".
It's not a spoiler, it was all explained in previous episodes (2x20 if i remember correctly)

Its backwards, AFO’s brother had a quirk that lets pass quirks, thats why it was useless and never manifested, AFO gave him the stockpile power quirk.

Remember Togata was originally the candidate to inherit One For All, but it was given to Deku instead. He'd be so broken with his own quirk, plus One For All. Geez.
I will forever contend first half of this season is some of the greatest anime ever produced. Each episode just ramps up until it explodes in episode 11 with some great falling action in episodes 12 and 13. Waiting week to week for the entire Bakugo rescue arc was amazing.

I think the crazy part is that you see how powerful All For One and All Might Are, but neither in their prime. Both are not only older, but suffered debilitating injuries, robbing them of their strength. Remember All Might had to hit the Nomu like 1000 times before it went down, but he said at his peak it likely would have taken only 4.
I feel like people don't talk about how freakin terrifying All for One actually is. Stain's killing intent was pretty strong but All for One's is on a whole other level. The fear in those characters faces actually made me uneasy and have a pit in my stomach. I felt like I was right next to Deku in the scene. Plus on top of all that AFO's soundtrack adds an even better level to the fear
Ugh, the feels. Just reliving the episode is just bringing back so much excitement on why I love this show. The next episode is going to mess you guys up! Can't wait for the next reaction. Keep up the good work!

Im also a teacher, and I definitely vibe with what Akasan was saying in the beginning. I only started watching the show because I saw yagi toshinori’s injured form and thought that was such a fascinating concept. And ever since then my favorite characters have been Aizawa and Toshinori (as Toshinori not All Might, although I have made respect for him as a hero). I love how much experience with kids is shown to make a difference between the teachers. Toshinori is a godawful teacher, but is actually trying to improve. Which means he’s a great teacher.
This show makes me miss teaching so much (curse you chronic pain and fatigue; oh and COVID too)

I know this is like years ago, but I'm almost sure it was explained that One for All is an ability that allowed them to pass their ability to others, and the original guy was given the power to Stockpile. So my understanding is, that it's accumulated power from each wielder that gets passed down. Now either: 1. only the person's actual physical strength gets passed down, as normal powers cannot be passed on nomatter how much dna you give or 2. only quirkless people have been given this power before, so no one has had any powers to pass down which is why only physical strength had been stockpiled. That's my understanding/theory anyway.

it was implied that the quirk to pass on power and the quirk to accumulate power fused together to create a new quirk one for all. if a quirk user received the power i dont think the quirk would pass on unless it was compatible to fuse again which would technically create a new quirk
