Just like to point out, when we first met Aoyama he couldn't fire his Navel Laser for more than a second at a time without it giving him stomach pains, and from the Sports Festival we saw that more than ten shots in quick succession nearly had him dropping his guts. Here, he's able to use Navel Laser to generate a beacon for both friend and foe for OVER A MINUTE. He may not be as courageous as others in Class 1-A, but he's certainly put in the work to be a pro hero.
to be fair, real time in anime can be pretty subjective and weird... specially because most of it is adapted from manga where dialogue can be treated basically as a "free action", considering the nature of the medium.
He's kind of been the MVP outside of the main cast of characters this season. I like they've shown his quark to be more useful than we originally thought when the series started.
I like the part where they all come in to get their targets after receiving Aiyoma’s signal. “Keep twinkling! Whatever than means!” I freaking love Iida!
Naval Laser needs a suit that can re direct his beam into his hands, feet, eyes (visor) like a Iron Man/Cyclops hybrid. And maybe a rebrand, LASER KNIGHT.
He (unsuccessfully) showed off his kneecap laser redirects during the final exams, but yeah, he's definitely not maximizing his fabulousness enough. He could have one just on his back so he can propel forward instead of always facing backward.
Well the reason he has them on his elbows instead of his hands is because when he does his pose he hands are facing backwards and down and as we all know that pose is absolutely necessary
The second year students from the other schools haven't taken the exam before - most schools only send their second year classes to the exam, UA is the only one that sends classes earlier, in their first year (unless you count Shiketsu High, since they sent Inasa - a first year - along with their second year class). In theory it should be possible for someone to retake this exam in their third year of study, or even to retake it again afterwards - its run independently by the government, so I guess really anybody could at least try, kinda like how you can apply to college at any age you want. The implication though is that getting the provisional license is REALLY important to continuing on with your hero course studies, since a lot of what you're going to be learning and studying for the rest of your time in high school is going to require you to be at least partially licensed. That's why the second year students were saying they need to get the license this time - not because they'll never get to try again, but because they'd fall behind a lot, maybe even lose their spot at their school, if they can't get it. The same is true for the UA kids too though, even though they're first years - UA just dials up the intensity of their training and education a year earlier than most schools.
Didn't Gran Torino said he wasn't a hero and just got his Hero License because he needed it for something? Imagine all those students taking the exam and suddenly there's this adult/senior guy taking with them just flying around and kicking ass.
@John Hexagon then the correct statement is "as long as you have your high school diploma, you can apply to college at any age". There plenty of people graduating high school but who decide to pursuit a college education way later in their life. Also, for adults who didn't finish high school but want to get into college, their are special programs outside the school system that help them get their diploma or GED.
MUNCH IEZ not really about experience though, even before the training camp where BOTH class 1-A and 1-B were attacked, they had already planned on having the first years take the exam. I’m pretty their classes were just the first ones they wanted to try out the idea of taking the test early on
I really think it would help Blind Wave's confusion over names if they knew that Japanese people almost exclusively refer to each other by family names unless they're REALLY close. They keep trying to remember the given names, which the characters hardly ever use. Granted, they've picked up on a few of the more prominent classmates, like Bakugo and Iida, but the other other ones still trip them up.
@@Twiska But what about when his quirk first mutated? I don't think it's quite like Cyclops in that he always fires a laser without the belt, but more like Alex in First Class, in that he uses it to control it.
pretty sure Aoyama needs the belt so the beam is focused and straight, not that its non-stop. or maybe he has a butt plug for his belly button normally
@John Hexagon No, it controls his optic blasts. Cyclops' mutation is that his cells gather energy from the sun and use this energy to constantly open a small portal in his eyes to a dimension filled with raw concussive energy which leaks out when his eyes are open (so they're not even lasers, so they give off no heat and blast things kinetically).
I love this episode because them all passing could have easily have felt convenient and forced, but they do such a good job of making it feel like they all earned it.
the provisional license lets students carry out hero work without getting in trouble and it also lets students make connections early on with Hero Agencies to help create a soild foundtion for the careers If you don't pass the exam you have to wait until you are gifted your hero license upon graduation to preform Hero work
This is the provisional license, only 1st and 2nd years (normally only 2nd years) take the test, because 3rd year take the ACTUAL hero licence exam , the provisonalice is OPTIONAL to do extra credit intern work before you graduate, even you don't do it can can take the Actual licence exam when you graduate.

i just remembered we're coming up on episode 20, wonder if they'll actually watch it right after 19. I know some people are saying to just skip it entirely - which I disagree with, since it's still a fun episode and people still put work into it (not to mention the Blind Wave crew are gonna watch the MHA movie at some point so the episode is worth watching). That said, it does kinda kill the pacing of this current arc pretty badly, so I wouldn't necessarily mind if they waited to watch Episode 20 until after they watch the rest of the season.
Personally, I just want them to set it aside until after episode 23. That way, it's between the two arcs and isn't too intrusive in terms of story happening.
I agree, it's a fun semi filler (it's actually canon, it just doesn't fit in continuity with the current arc), but it kills the pacing of the current story arc. So yeah, instead of not watching it, I would recomend they skip it and watch it later with some OVA's or maybe when the BR of the movie comes out they check it out then.
I think Iida was born with the jets, but couldn't be used. Then around 4-5, the engines worked and that's his quirk. Like if erasure head erased Iida's quirk, the jets would stay but he couldn't use it
I like how MHA shows that everyone who made it into U.A.’s Hero course *deserves* to be there. At some point, everyone gets their chance to step up and prove themselves. For those who are otherwise seen as “joke characters”, they get more than one chance to make up for it. Aoyama shooting Compress to save Tokoyami and (almost) Bakugo was excellent, but his scene in this episode is what really solidifies his position as a future hero.
On a related note, it was a great decision to give Mineta’s quirk the specific drawback it has, because it gives perfect emphasis to the moments when he shows his own dedication to becoming a hero. When Mineta gets serious, he *bleeds* for the cause. This is especially significant when you consider his small stature.
