The steel helmet actually was quite a precise replica of the WWII German M40 "Stahlhelm" Helmet, in fact it looked as if the thickness of the steel was similar to the original. As some metal detectorists proved by finding originals, those didn't stop a bullet as well - they, as the kevlar helmets used by the German Army of today, were designed to deflect stray shrapnel and ricocheted bullets and protect from everything that has the ability to fall down on the soldiers 😂
so basically both this helmet and the M40 weren’t made to stop a actual bullet and were made to just lightly protect the users head from scars
i love german engineering lol
@@bluscout1857 not all helmets were made for protection some Were Made For Protection Against shrapnel
I was about to say this is just a blue-ish Stahlhelm lol 💀
@bluscout1857 EVERY helmet, that doesn't belong to a juggernaut- or bomb suit doesn't stop rifle bullets. Imagine carrying a weight of at least 5kg, what a ballistic helmet would weigh, at all times.. It would have to be made of quite a thick layer of steel.
@@bluscout1857 During ww2 helmets were never supposed to stop bullets. It was mostly to reduce casualties caused by shrapnel.

"Can withstand 24 joules of kinetic energy." A 9mm leaves the muzzle with 470 joules of energy lol.
24 Joules is 17.7 ft-lbs
@Zack Wilkerson At 100 yards it's still 250 joules. My point was that the energy the body armor claims to be protective against is substantially less than the energy behind the most common pistol round within common pistol ranges.
They're not lying there. 24J is grand daddy's pellet rifle territory. Most PCP's go way way above that. So you're good against knives I guess??

your intro... i just literally busted out laughing right here at work
"Can withstand 24 joules of energy"
A .22 lr hits with like, from a quick wikipedia search, a minimum of 178 joules of energy.
I was going to comment something similar. Namely that 24 joules is pellet-gun levels of energy.
Then again, I read an anti-gun paper once that claimed a .177 pellet gun firing at 1100 fps was "as powerful as a .45 handgun." So by that logic, the vest should be able to stop a .45!
So the claim that it can stop 24 joules might be correct
So, it could stop a pellet gun in theory? Sometimes I wish this was a more scientific channel so that sort of thing would actually get tested
They probably threw a cartridge at the vest, that's how that picture was taken as well.
Imagine you were lost, stumbling in the woods and you stumble upon one of his intros

It says "aramid fiber" and he's reading it as if it's the first time he's heard of it. Aramid is what Kevlar is made from, I think "Kevlar" was a brand and it became the definition for bulletproof armor...
ностромовl, I don't know anything about guns so I'll just assume you are right. The thing I wanted to comment though it how sometimes a brand defines a product. Like in the US everyone calls plasters, Band-Aids. And also whatever Oreos are called, Oreos.

How is it bulletproof? My .177 airgun can do 30 joules, and this is one of the smallest calibers going slower than sound
