I have a 1990 RG 570. I am the original owner. I replaced the pups back in mid 90’s with EMG 81 and 85 with Jackson preamp. That guitar has had many many hours of woodsheding and gigs under its belt. I still pull it out once and a while. Still plays and sounds awesome and heavy. Great guitar!
I have a 30 year old RG that I've had from new. It's my main guitar at the moment, and I gig with it reasonably frequently (though not as often as I'd like). It's still going strong after all these years and it occurred to me not long ago that I have never so much as taken the back plate off (for the pots, that is - I lost the trem cover decades ago). No need! The pots are very slightly crackly, and I think the pickups might need re-waxing because it seems a little bit more microphonic than it used to, but both of those are pretty recent developments, and for a 30 year old guitar that has been very much played... Them Japanese fellows knew what they were doing back in the day! Considering how much you pay for a Prestige Ibanez today, I hope they still do...
By far the two greatest things about 1989-91 RG570 are the original Edge tremolo and the original Wizard neck. The original Wizard neck was the thinnest neck ever; as for the Edge tremolo - some people like the later, Lo Pro model - but to me there's only one original. I owned two of these guitars and I loved them both. Pro tip - Some of the giblets on mine were a little rusted so I replaced thumb and Allen-head screws with ones that came with a $22 Chinese knock-off.
Looking at reviews of this model after finally scoring an original 1990 UV7BK recently has me shocked because I can see the direct influence the Universe line had on the RG series going forward, the wood build and neck profile is nearly identical aside from the pickups being different between the two even the neck profile being one piece maple is the same aside from being larger for 7 strings and the bridge being different also (1990 model Universe guitars like mine have the original Edge 7 tremolo, it was changed to the Lo Pro Edge in Late 1990/1991).
The RG series was developed as a non-signature version of the Jem (and the Universe was essentially a 7 string Jem) so, yeah, influence is putting it mildly.
The original Edge tremolos are made by Gotoh....I think the Edge II is also. I bought an RG560 back in 1988 "Grape Ice" color, great guitar. I owned it for 14 years, and gave it to my son after he became interested in playing. He is a Gibson/PRS player now...lol
Sweet guitar,I just got the Genesis 570 in black, looks exactly like yours.Main differences are mine has a 5 piece neck,no pickup rings and no logo on the pickups,it also has a volute,by far the best guitar I’ve played.
Only other guitar I’ve ever played that was this fast and just as evil in comparison was late 80s early 90s USA Peavey Tracer LT. The cleanest two rock guitars with outstanding versatility and tone you can only get from active pickups. I wouldn’t change out the v pups they are hot sauce. 1991 RG570 44XXX serial meaning they were either busy in December 1000 guitars passed their quota or it was made before they got their serial stickers in January of 92. Mine is Transparent blue/Blue burst, not a common color I’ve noticed..
I have a Black 92 RG570 that i put an EMG 81 pick up in. It is my favorite guitar for metal and hard rock. That EMG 81 through a mesa dual rectifier, through a boss M-2 Metal zone pedal is just pure monster crushing tone! Friggin love this guitar!
i have found a used RG370 and 470 (MIJ) in very nice condition for $250-350 .what is different between this one and the rg370 and 470 ? My budget under $500, the new rg 370 MII also costs $500 .can not decide. which one would you recommend to me?
Is the 370 a new one or old? The new ones have infinity pickups, which are trash imo. The old have v7 and v8. The 470 have newer pickups too. If it’s Japanese made, it’s going to be a much better guitar than what they put out now (again imo). I also believe they changed to lo pro edge terms in those. I’ve never played on of those, so I’m in familiar with the quality. But I can say. It’s GOT to be better than the stock Ibanez trems out today. Thanks for watching!
@@rockandgroove306 I have found the old rg370 MIJ from 90s in very nice condition for $300 and the used rg370AMHZ MII (new model) for $350 the old rg370 MIJ has resoncast body,TRS-101 bridge, wizard 1 neck,Pickups V6F and RTS , The new rg370 MII has ash body, edge zero 2 bridge, wizard 3 neck, quantum pickups I don't like low-end Floyd Rose ,maybe i block the trem after i buy the guitar Which one is worth more ?
@@upside-down6211 I’m not sure which is worth more, but I’m thinking the mij. I would definitely go with the rg370mij. All the components are way better than the newer one. And that’s what we see, to be honest: the older Ibanez are just miles ahead with all aspects. Go with the Japanese one!
I’m searching for an 89’ Jewel Blue 570. I bought mine new in 89’ and have no idea who or where I sold it to.. Probably needed gas money. Lol. Amazing guitar.
Howdy, Nice RG.. I have a 1989 RG 770 all black. It's my baby. So, l was wondering if you still have it, and if you possibly would want to sell it. I would give you whatever you would want for it.?
Man, to be honest, I already sold it a while back. And to be even more honest, I miss it. I’ve played other Ibanez since then and nothing felt like this guitar. I did really let go of a prize!
@@rockandgroove306 I had a white 1989 RG 750. I bought used around '94 and sold it around '04. Terrible mistake lol. We all make terrible mistakes like that with gear. If it makes you feel better, I also traded my Marshall JTM 60 2x12 combo for a Peavey Transfex Pro 2x12. Oh, and my Marshall JMP Pre Jcm 800 100 watt 2203 head I sold for less than $500 sometime in the 90's. Fortunately I have a 1987 RG 560, but I would rather have the 1989 RG 750.
I own a 1991 RG570 in Jewel Blue. Matching color headstock, no "RG Series" writing on it, original Edge bridge, stays in tune very, very well. Yeah, it was used by lots of guitarists, even Kirk Hammett had a short romance with Ibanez in the early 90's, I'm not sure but I think he played the RG570 (no pickguard and it was equipped with Edge tremolo, although every time anyone does his equipment listing through the years of his in Metallica, they always say he used RG470 not 570, it's kind of puzzling to me, because I don't know if there were 470s with Edge bridge, I thought 470 were always equipped with lower quality bridges). Yeah the neck is really, really thin and just it's almost too thin :P It plays like butter. Could be a good guitar for beginners without high level of dexterity in left hand. Yeah it's versatile in terms of available pickups configuration, and your piece is in really nice condition. Mine has more finish chip-off-s. The bridge simply stays in tune, no issues have I noticed with that. Very nice instrument.... Cool review.
I actually sold this to a guy, and he loves it. I’ve got my hands on an Ibanez since then and it was good, but NOWHERE close to what that 570 felt like. Thanks for watching!
I have a 92 570. Flame Maple Trans Red - it has the Lo Pro Edge trem system. It's a great guitar. I also have a '91 RG565 (original Edge trem), which is close to my favorite! I love these both, golden era Ibanez guitars are fantastic players for sure!!
@@wizaxed Same - I bought a 91 RG570 in Purple Neon back in 92 and it's been my favourite guitar ever since. I had a DiMarzio Multibucker fitted at the bridge slot for a bit of added flexibility of tones with a microswitch to shift between coil tap options on that pickup. The neck is the best I've ever played and even now the trem is the most solid trem for staying in tune I've ever experienced. You really can do the Vai on Crossroads thing of holding the guitar by the neck near the headstock and the trem arm and waving it about and it will stay in tune. I'd never sell it and although mine is quite a bit more beat up than yours it's still an incredible guitar. It's my "Run into the fire to save one guitar" guitar. Luv and Peace.

Gospel and polka.
