    What The Underworld animation doesn't let you know is two things. One, the spirits don't really see the people on the ship and two they are saying what was the last thing going through their minds before dieing.
    Edit: Also Jorge's mom sang as Odysseus's mom.

      @@VictorNightroad Yeah, that's why Polites open arms line hits even harder since that's what was going through his mind before dieing.

    Fun fact : in Ruthless, Poseidon said there was 43 men left under Odysseus’s command from the 600 of the beginning. However! In Underworld, it is said there are 558 souls not 557! So who died?
    In the original Odyssey, there was a guy named Elpenor who was just… a guy. Not beautiful, mediocre in combat or clever. And this guy got drunk on Circe’s island, fell from the roof of the palace and broke his neck. The funny thing is that nobody noticed he was missing so when the ship arrived to the underworld Odysseus was like : « wtf are you doing on this side? » and Elpenor’s answer was « f* you man! I died but why would you care since so many died under your command! »
    The plus extra is that in EPIC, Elpenor was totally forgotten but the headcount is still right 😂

    The animators have usually portrayed the 12 Olympian gods with no eyes, like no pupils or even iris. As for why they look similar, I think it's they found "hey I like how this person designed this character" and decided to give Polites a headband and glasses. Most animators also base their designs around the singer of the part.

      @VictorNightroad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Ahh .. interesting ! I didnt know they base it on his actual physical traits .. oke that makes more sense i guess.. but generally speaking i do think there`s many similaritis between the animations .. its not a bad think like ive mentioned.. just an observation !

    When Circe mentions the last time they let men come on the island and they faced a heavy loss, she likely meant the nymphs were sexually assaulted, kidnapped to be brides, and so on. It was quite common in Greek mythology. Hence her distrust, and she wanted to prove Odysseus was no better. She tried to seduce him, and she would have killed him had he succumbed to her charms.
    When he rebuffed her, she had a change of heart and helped transport the ship and crew to the Underworld.
    All that being said, this isn't what happened in the Odyssey. 😅 Odysseus is far less faithful to Penelope, as it wasn't expected in ancient Greek culture, and he slept with Circe and later Calipso. It is the same double standard as today, in that Penelope is expected to remain chaste and faithful as doing otherwise would be a threat to the patriarchal line of succession. They didn't have ways to prove who the father was back then, and it would bring into question Telemacus' legitimacy even, because if she cheated once who was to say she hadn’t before?
    Apologies for rambling, love your reactions!

    The resemblance particulary from the characters between different animators mostly comes from people basing the desing on the Voice Actors, so it keeps the characters desing relativly consistant.
    Also is based on Anciant Greece so the Architecture and dressing style won't vary that much.
    And in There are other ways what's happening is that Circe's spell is working on Oddyseus, when Hermes gave him the Molly he said "It will work until you've beatting your oponent" so when he defeated her and the Chimera the effect were off and Circe was able to try put a Spell on Oddyseus. That's why he starts singing in her tune and we hear "There is no Puppet Here" when there was one. But in this version Oddyseus Love and Loyatly is so strog that Penelope's Violin Oercame Circe's spell and how he begs here to let them go she softens realizing Oddyseus and his men are not bad people like those who hurt her ymphs before.
    A thing I love about Jorge's music here in EPIC is that you can "feel" the power dynamic from the musical cues in different songs depending on how a character reuses another one words "against Them" or with the tunes. Is really cool.
    Not You Speaking over Oddyseus' Mum Part!! 😭That's one of the reasons we prefer reactors pausing! Oddyseu's Mum part after Polites makes my eyes teary every time. He was away from home so long he got to know his mum died in the underworld... Then when you discover the extra info that the spirits in the Underworld repeat what they were thinking before dieing and how she died from a broken heart thinking he was probably dead... 🥲🥲

    Just a point of refference, Hermes flirting is... Very typical Greek... Cause im pretty sure hermes is Oddyseus's like, grandfather or somethin. Theyre atleast related fairly closely.

    • @SoraJack
      @SoraJack 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Animatics are animations, but it's a specific kind of animation. It's sort of the skeleton of the animation, or like an animated storyboard with preliminary sounds.

    Fun fact concerning your rant about poisoning samples in the old times. Toasting with glasses of wine was a widespread custom in medieval time because when you'd hit your glasses together, a few drops of your drink would fall into your guest's and vice versa. Important figures used this as a way to deter people from poisoning them under the assumption that the trade of liquids would mean anyone who'd attempt to poison them would also poison themselves.
    It's safe to assume however that that didn't work too well as a drop or two of a drink with diluted poison in it would most likely not be enough to kill the person who had the formerly safe drink.

    Loving your reactions!
    Pausing is great! I feel like when reactors dont pause they end up talking over important plot points that they miss and then it has less of an impact. We absolutely dont mind pausing because we want to hear your thoughts and for your experience of the songs to be a complete one so pause away.
    12:22 Many of the animators will show characters with their eyes hidden when we dont know their true intentions. Like Hermes we dont know why hes helping Odysseus and what his motives are. Or like in Gigi's Keep Your Friends Close, Telemacus was shown with his eyes blurred because Odysseus doesnt know what his face looks like all grown up because he hasnt seen him in so long.

    almost every time i listen to under the tree from attack on titan i tear up. because it's like listening to someone try and talk down someone they care about from the ledge of roof. and knowing deep down that they're too far gone to listen. it so relatable because everyone either has or will experience loss.
    I think for me personally I'm a very emotional person, So i tend to tear up even just seeing someone else cry. I think being empathetic can be very hard. There have been times where it caused me a lot of grief. people take advantage of your kindness, it can be exhausting. and often seen as weak , but feeling emotions is a part of life. It's all about balance.
    That's why the Polites scene is so powerful because you can argue that yes he is naive and his ideology probably would've got him killed in the long run either way. but the fact is even in his last moments he believed in kindness. he did succeed in teaching Odysseus that kindness can be brave, and because Odysseus was sincere, vulnerable and open, it saved him and his men. so with the right people it can be a solution.
    and that's admirable , because hell yeah the world is cruel and people can be monsters, but there are also people who genuinely care, and are kind and expect nothing from you in return. and although it is often hard to tell these types of people apart. It can be so amazing when you find them.

      AOT .... Oh my goodnes .. sometimes i forget i live in a world where AOT exists... what a masterpiece // i think it`s one of the best shows who portrays conflicting ideologies int he best manner !
      Also yes i know beeing empathetic can be hard .. not from personal experience but i know trust me ! I hope you`re surrounded by people who appreciate and cherish you at your true value and not for personal benefit !
      Sometimes i don`t read to much into animations especially if i haven`t been invested in something for a long time it`s hard for me to attach .. that is why i love reading your comments as i get the feeling i can understand certain scenes better that normally would escape me !

    29:30 Pride. I dont know how to explain it or give a good example. But pride makes me cry the most. best example I have is "How to train your dragon". God I hope you have seen that movie... Everyone in the world should know that movie. Anyway. Theres a scene, spoiler: Where he fly'es the dragon, and throw away the paper with the instructions, and he just do it on instinct. Then im like: "HE DID IT!" YAAAAYYYY 😭😭😭" Me just sobbing even though I have watched the movie over a hundred times.

    • @VictorNightroad
      @VictorNightroad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actally haven`t seen that movie ! :D Hmm i don`t know if its pride .. but it could be ! i feel it`s a very complex emotion that`s associated with achievement but it doesnt feel like pride haha ... maybe when ill be better at articulating my feelings ill give this another go !

    • @malenejensen02
      @malenejensen02 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh I meant. That's when "I" cry. Not that, that was what you were feeling 😅
      Anyway, I totally recommend that trillogy.
      "How to train your dragon" and "Kung fu panda" is the two best animated trillogies of all time. Well I guess there are 4 Kung Fu Panda movies now...
