Very rarely does anything in 40k make me tear up. But that moment at the end of the siege, as everyone was dying around them, they took the moment to share in their brotherly bond one final time.

Over the vox, the humans are calling us insane and begging us to fall back with them. To them, this bloodshed must seem like madness, but there is no choice. We will not be the only Crusade to violate our most sacred tradition. The Black Sword will remain in black hands until there are none left to bear it. I have a moment - just a single moment - of reflexive pain when I see Bayard’s body next to Bastilan’s. Two of the finest Sword Brethren ever to serve the Chapter, now slain in glory. More alien bodies block my view. More xenos bleed as I force my way closer to Priamus.
A sense of bloodthirsty, eerie calm descends between us. For those that prefer them, the Helsreach audiobook is terrific. The narrator is Jonathan Keeble and it's bits of his reading that are in Richard Boylan's animation.
He did a fantastic job bringing helsreach to life. Except for halbrecht saying "grimaldus"
I fucking love that one line at the end "HAIL GRIMALDUS, HERO OF HELLSREACH, they cheered, as if there was only one"

12:45 not shown is the Titan's final act of defiance, the Titan, Storm-Herald, literally punched the Gargant Godbreaker with it's right cannon so hard that it shattered a significant portion of the frontal armor.

The more you dial back on the edge and actually speak passionately about things, the more endearing you become.

Something odd, the art and models show Grimaldus having a MK5 looking helmet where the lore description and show showd him in a regular Skull helmet. I do have a head cannon where he wears the repaired helmet of his friend Artarion to honor him. Thoughts?

In the book it says that his helmet is styled like a skull. His artwork helmet somewhat resembles a skull, but the creators of the animation visualized it differently

When I read the book for the first time I was genuinely just astonished by how well the writing captured the scale and destruction of the siege, and now that I watch the video, I can safely say, Majorkill can somehow do the book justice with a wacky 20 minute video😅
You call it weaponized autism but really, any chapter of the Imperial Fist lineage is sheer awesome sauce. Even the Dudley Do Right Crimson Fist are 100x more awesome then the Dudley Do Right GW poster boys of the Ultrasmurfs. Also Richard Boylan deserves more love for animating the most awesome 40K story committed to paper. Sure, Astartes looks better, but that's only a short flick, Helsreach is the first real full movie. And it gave us the most awesome inspirational speech since King Theoden's speech at Minas Tirith.
I like the Ultrasmurfs because I am a privledged white kid and I like seeing people like me represented in media.
This is the reason why IF deserves to be massacred, both from Iron cage and War of the Beast.

Grimaldus’ speech, just before the siege of Helsreach begins:
'Do you see that?' he asked quietly.
At first, only silence followed. Hesitantly, the Guard soldiers began to cast glances at each other, uncomfortable with the Chaplain's presence and confused by his behaviour. All eyes were on him now. Grimaldus aimed his mace out at the advancing hordes. Thousands. Tens of thousands. And only the very beginning.
'Do you see that?' he roared at the humans. The closest ranks flinched back from the mechanical bark that issued almost deafeningly loud from his skull helm.
'Answer me!'
He received several trembling nods. 'Yes, sir...' uttered a handful of them, the speakers faceless within the masses of their rebreather masks.
Grimaldus turned his back to the wasteland, already dark with the teeming, chaotic ranks of the enemy. At first, his helm emitted a low, vox-distorted chuckle. Within a few seconds, he was laughing, laughing up at the burning sky while aiming his crozius hammer at the enemy.
'Are you as insulted as I am? This is what they send against us?'
He turned back to the men, the laughter fading, but amused contempt filling his voice even through the inhumanising vocalisers of his helm.
'This is what they send? This rabble? We hold one of the mightiest cities on the face of the planet. The fury of its guns sends all skyborne enemies to the ground in flames. We stand united in our thousands - our weapons without number, our purity without question, and our hearts beating courage through our blood. And this is how they attack us?'
'Brothers and sisters... a legion of beggars and alien dregs wheezes its way across the plains. Forgive me when the moment comes that they whine and weep against our walls. Forgive me that I must order you to waste ammunition upon their worthless bodies.'
Grimaldus paused, lowering his weapons at last, turning his back on the invaders as if bored by their very existence. His attention was focussed entirely upon the soldiers below him.
'I have heard many souls speak my name in whispers since I came to Helsreach. I ask you now: Do you know me?'
'Yes' several voices replied, several among the hundreds.
'Do you know me?' he bellowed at them over the firing of the wall guns.
'Yes!' a chorus answered now.
'I am Grimaldus of the Black Templars! A brother to the Steel Legions of this defiant world!'
A muted cheer greeted his words. It wasn't enough, not even close.
'Never again in life will your actions carry such consequences. Never again will you serve as you serve now. No duty will matter as much, and no glory will taste as true. We are the defenders of Helsreach. On this day, we carve our legend in the flesh of every alien we slay. Will you stand with me?'
Now the cheers came in truth. They thundered in the air around him.
'Will you stand with me?'
Again, a roar.
'Sons and daughters of the Imperium! our blood is the blood of heroes and martyrs! The xenos dare defile our sacred city? They dare tread the sacred soil of our world? We will throw their bodies from these walls when the final day dawns!'
A wave of noise crashed against his armour as they cheered. Grimaldus raised his war maul, aiming it to the embattled heavens.
'This is our city! This is our world! Say it! Say it! Cry it out so the bastards in orbit will hear our fury! Our city! Our world!'
'OUR CITY! OUR WORLD!'
Laughing again, Grimaldus turned to face the oncoming horde. 'Run, alien dogs! Come to me! Come to us all! Come die in blood and fire!'
'BLOOD AND FIRE!'
The Reclusiarch cut the air with his crozius, as if ordering his men forward. 'For the Templars! For the Legion! For Helsreach!'
'FOR HELSREACH!'
'Louder!'
'FOR HELSREACH!'
'They cannot hear you, brothers!'
'FOR HELSREACH!'
'Hurl yourselves at these walls, inhuman filth! Die on our blades! I am Grimaldus of the BLack Templars, and I will cast your carcasses from these holy walls!'
'GRIMALDUS! GRIMALDUS! GRIMALDUS!'
Grimaldus nodded, still staring out over the wastelands, letting the cheering chant mix with the howling wind, knowing it would carry to the advancing enemy.
Best goddamn speech since King Theoden's at the battle of Minas Tirith. You know you're gonna die, but you want to do it anyway.
That speech leaves me in awe every time I hear/read it.

That Helsreach last stand got me chills so epic I roared "For the Emperor!!!" while watching in my room.
Edit: that was almost two years ago and everytime I rewatch it I'm still having the same energy and enthusiasm.
Me, holding back my tears as the Emperor's Champion Priamus begged to be saved by his Reclusiarch before being cut down in a gout of burning promethium from a green skin flamer: "For the Emperor!"
Me, crying manly tears as Artarion turns his back to an ork Nob to share in one final moment of brotherhood with Grimaldus, even though it meant his death: *"FOR DORN! FOR THE EMPEROR!"*

The second 40k novel I've read. I got chills reading this and this feeling only intensified after listening to the audiobook. The voice acting and storytelling is just superb.

Great book. But if ur looking for a Bowden book, the night lords trilogy is top Tier.
Indeed this was a legendary stand. But also, remember Brother Ranulf from the Space wolves. Him and his terminators guarded a mountain pass and killed off so many orks but in the end died. After the battle, the orks considered him a god.

It's such an epic scene where Godbreaker is closing in on the cathedral and suddenly you just see a massive flash across the sky and the gargant is no more.
Fun fact, that gun on the secret mechanicus superweapon is basically like a imperial ship main armament put on a ground vehicle. Imagine a tank with a 16in gun irl and you have a good parallel.

Man Helsreach was one hell of a good novel. It gave me chills the whole way through when i read it, and i couldnt put it down, literally finished it in about 5 hours because it just sucked me in. Ive been wanting to watch the video, but ive been scared it wouldnt live up to the novel. I think i need to. Just the animation you used from it brought back those same chills.
You won't be disappointed. Find a version that's spliced all 13 episodes together into a single movie. Much better that way.

If your interested in the Black Templars participation as a whole in the 3rd war I’d recommend The War for Armageddon Omnibus
The tech marine reached the superweapon, but, to properly activate it, you needed many tech priests, to complete numerous rituals. So, on his own, he was only able to partially activate Oberon. On his own he was barely able to drive it, and I think the stress of firing that one and only shot was enough to kill him. Not to mention that "Oberon" or "Ordinatus Armageddon"'s main weapon was a nova cannon. Which is normally the main weapon of an imperial navy warship. The mega gargant didn't stand a chance.
Helsreach was the final factor that caused me to choose Black Templars as my army. I have zero regrets
The Helsreach mini series was the first time I really got a taste of anything about 40k and I instantly fell in love with it, as of now I am about 2 months in to my 40k learning expedition and have watched almost all of majorkills videos and leutin09 videos. I can't get enough of this stuff, I just wish I had someone to kind of guide me in a direction to chronologically learn all I can. But either way, huge fan for life now!

decided to get into 40k with some friends a month ago, and chose an audibook for the faction i found the coolest. randomly chose helsreach because i thought the templars sounded cool. finished it about a day ago and saw you uploaded this. grimaldus is the first lore character i've been really connected to and i'm so fuckin happy everyone agrees he kicks ass

*Spoilers if you care* In terms of the ending, I don’t know which I prefer more. The ending of the animation is a tear jerker with what feels like the walls closing in around Grimaldus as he shouts his death rattle at the orks. On the other hand, In the book Grimaldus is laughing his arse off at the stupidity of it all as more orks charge the fortress while other orks are shelling it to pieces! Aeration’s goodbye is done while they both laugh like madmen.
I literally watched helsreach the other day, such a coincidence.

The black templars agreed with his logic, and also thought of it as a way of killing orks in a more controlled environment so they can’t contribute to a larger assault.
