I just have such a deep appreciation for Justin Hawkins and I’m glad I took a chance and gave you a listen over a year ago when he was unknown to me.
Good day to you, Justin. Like many people in these comments, I love your work and I love Pat Finnerty’s work so this was such a pleasure to watch. I’m sorry that you’ve both been copping some flak from overzealous Frusciante/RHCP fans about your feelings towards the music. It’s never nice to be told that one’s musical opinions and feelings are ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. For about 25 years I personally never gave a cat’s knuckle about Frusciante’s guitar playing or RHCP’s music, but during the pandemic, I watched RHCP’s ‘Live at Slane Castle ‘03’ on TH-cam and I became gradually enraptured with Frusciante’s performance, energy, and some sort of magical 'je nais sais quoi' that I couldn’t put my finger on. When I tried to figure out what it was, I mostly skipped RHCP’s albums and went straight to Frusciante’s solo music. To my surprise, I really loved his solo work, especially his '94 album and his albums in the '00s. His guitar-based solo music varies in style, but it all has elements of raw vulnerability and openness which I find very comforting and inspiring to listen to. In my opinion, Frusciante's sincerity in his solo work is particularly endearing in both the context of his personal adversities circa '92-98, and also taking into account that he would be aware that his RHCP fame would attract a lot of attention towards his solo music which wouldn't necessarily be positive. Say what you will about his first album 'Niandra Lades...', it takes a lot of guts to release music of that nature when you have the ability and the means to write a crowd-pleasing song like 'Under the Bridge'. As an aside, I think if one genuinely loves the way a song makes you feel, then it really shouldn’t matter what other people think about it, even though it’s easy for us to feel defensive and hurt when our musical tastes are called into question. At the end of the day, it’s just our egos that can cop a bruising. The music itself is fine. It just continues to exist in its untouched form, waiting in the ether for people to come across it in their own time. For anyone who’s interested in checking out Frusciante’s solo music (but doesn’t want to listen to a whole album), I’d recommend the songs, ‘Time Tonight’, ‘The Dying Song’, ‘Every Person’, ‘Your Pussy’s Glued to a Building on Fire’, ‘Omission’, ‘Been Insane’, ‘Loss’, ‘Unchanging’, ‘The Mirror’, ‘The Slaughter’ and ‘The First Season’. Take care Justin and take care everyone. May our musical discourse always be civilised, spirited and respectful.

Justin, I’ve been listening to AC/DC since the seventies, and still don’t understand/know the lyrics to “Back in Black,” or most AC/DC songs. They’re one of those bands you just mumble-sing to. Btw, you were brilliant with Wolf (and you nailed “Under Pressure”!) I would love to see you interview Wolf about his music. The second Mammoth WVH album is going to drop in August. I saw him on the tour of his first album. He’s an amazing musician, and frontman, with a beautiful voice. Van Halen songs don’t do his voice justice, but “Epiphany,” “Circles,” “Distance” and his other songs do.

Great episode, Justin and Pat. I especially enjoyed the discussion around Dire Straits, and Mark Knopfler. I'm always happy and willing to talk about the brilliance of that band and their music. My favourite Dire Straits song is "On Every Street". It's plainly a beautiful piece of music.
I can’t believe I watched the entire video in one sitting! So good. Shite-Geist is brilliant and encapsulates everything going on in music and frankly our world right now! When you said Bohemian Rhapsody you were right on. But after some thought I’m thinking rock opera like Tommy. Can’t wait to hear it! ❤

To know there’s much more Justin I’ve been missing out on, so glad I know now. But I’d love it if these two talked once a month! They’re both just amazing and I just want more.😊
Thank you for introducing me to the Viagra Boys (so exceedingly cool). You are correct when you say that most of us don’t explore paths to music other than what we are fed, so I appreciate that your platform is exposing us to new music. Keep doing what you are doing!
The conversation about not listening to friend's albums and not listening to albums in general is so relatable. We all pretend like we do but no one is listening to that much music.
@15:35 I think what Pat does is help people recognize bad music, to help people become a little more discerning in musical appreciation, to sharpen the ear. When you can better identify the bad, you can more easily, appreciate and enjoy the good.
I think this needs to be a regular thing between you fellas, because I would watch/listen to this as a regular podcast. If you boys want to go for three hours, I’m down. What would be really great is if you guys wrote a song or an entire album on camera. Name the album after the title track, Shitegeist and call the project “What Makes J.P. Hawk-Finn Ride the Stink Again?” or something like that. Whatever you guys do, I think it would be lovely because I enjoyed every moment of this and love how Pat sucked Justin down into his trash talking, which is sure to catch some attention one way or another-and if you ever get someone that isn’t so chuffed about how they were discussed on the show, you can have them on to defend themselves or “pass the stink” onto someone else they think stinks even worse-so it’s like in the film The Ring, where you have to pay it forward to someone else to save yourself.
37:18 - I love Pat's _Starburst_ analogy 😀 And I bought a bag of them at the supermarket today, inspired by this great video; Looks like I'm lucky and there's only *1* yucky yellow banana-flavoured one in it! 😄
HOLY CRAP!!! I didn't know Pat was in Sweatheart! I was at that show in Philly where you did the Bryan Adams covers and I have the set list from the show! I'm a huge fan of The Darkness and Pat. Have you heard of a band called August is Falling?
I saw Beato's videos before Pat, and quite possibly why I found Pat was because of him, and the best part is Pats type of content is what I was looking for when I found Beato, and I haven't watched another Beato video since. Finding out these guys know each other and now an interview is just great. I just started watching Justin and this is a huge bonus. Also, I've been a huge Dr. Dog fan since I was in my early 20s. I think it's actually 6 degrees of Pat Finnerty. Kevin Bacon being from Philly makes that even more hilarious.
As much as you may regret what happened with Brian Johnson at the tribute show I don't think you realize how many followers you gained that day. I got reacquainted with you after 20 years and I'm certainly not the only one. I would love to see you interview Brian Johnson long form in the future.
Hey Pat and Justin - so great to hear you guys riffing off each other - please give us more in the future - my vote for greatest chorus ever? - "Go All The Way" by The Raspberries - greatest bridge? - "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys - greatest verse? I need a couple of weeks on that........
Finally! Been hoping you guys would get together for another chat since the Kid Rock All Summer Long video. That song is, to quote you after playing your own solo in the wrong key, a total disgrace

@@marcsullivan7987 Ah. Never thought he sounded like he was ripping off Knopfler, but haven't heard that much.
@@jamesrawlings5781 me neither; only in the vaguest sense of phrasing. But that’s def who they meant.
I can't believe Floodland was mentioned!! Awesome. The Sisters of Mercy's album worthwhile knowing.
Such an encyclopedic knowledge and human understanding of music - without excluding those of us who just dip our toes in the history of music pond. It's really special. Thank you.
I discovered your channel through What Makes This Song Stink!!❤️
Same here!
Me too! And watching this is just the best! I’ll listen later because there’s I guess 2 more hours worth? I’ve only watched podcasts on YT. To know there’s much more Justin I’ve been missing out on, so glad I know now. But I’d love it if these two talked once a month! They’re both just amazing and I just want more.😊
Thanks for this. I enjoyed every single second of it.
Thank you for introducing me to the Viagra Boys (so exceedingly cool). You are correct when you say that most of us don’t explore paths to music other than what we are fed, so I appreciate that your platform is exposing us to new music. Keep doing what you are doing!
I cannot express how much it warms my heart hearing these two share a lot of the same feelings i hold toward music. :)
THE DREAM EPISODE!
My vote for a Finnirty monthly chat.
i could listen these two talking music forever
The conversation about not listening to friend's albums and not listening to albums in general is so relatable. We all pretend like we do but no one is listening to that much music.
@15:35 I think what Pat does is help people recognize bad music, to help people become a little more discerning in musical appreciation, to sharpen the ear. When you can better identify the bad, you can more easily, appreciate and enjoy the good.
I would love a few or several of these a year. Not too much. Maybe every other month would be perfect
This is brilliant! You guys should most def do this on a regular basis 👍
Two of the most entertaining people on TH-cam. This was a delight
That was so good ... I even put my yellow Just Hawkins Rides Again t-shirt on just to watch it!! Shitegeist ... brilliant!!
Dark Beato! Love his channel ❤
Found this 1 year later, just a great yarn between 2 great fellas that love their music, banter and great humour. Thanks for a great cast guys 🤘
I was needing a solid two hour dose of Pat. Thanks!
.....just nodded off at 19:45........oooops.......back in the room 🤣. Seriously love these chats.....so entertaining .
One more great rock duet: Stop Draggin My Heart Around
More of this, please. Thank you.
Omg. Have the stars aligned? Something is 1000% right in the universe.
Thank you Justin! Pat Finnerty RULES and I love all the inside banter. Thanks for the long form. Looking forward to Shitegeist
Entertaining song mixes. You two are fun together. You just get it. Mutual understandings.
Stir of Echoes
Two of my favorite channels come together, how fun!
Love this one! Pat is hilarious
"Even in the future nothing works." 1:05ish space ball?!
I Love RHCP and Fruciante , but also love both your channels lol
The starbust part is pure poetry. Please do more of these. And also make a verse chorus bridge together.
