  • It was Dave's idea!
    To bikepack along the Ridegway, then take in a section of the Thames path, before returning via the Kennet and Avon tow path back to our respective homes.
    The adventure would take 2 days to complete and one overnight camp.
    We met Mike who was Bike packing across the country from East Anglia to Cornwall, hope you have a great adventure Mike.
    My Bike was a On One Bootzipper 29er, Dave was riding a Decathlon 520 and Tony was on Triggers Broom!
    Thanks for watching and if you have enjoyed the video please subscribe as TH-cam are no longer promoting my videos.

    Music used in this video was all from the TH-cam audio library:
    Resolve by Joel Cummins, Dreams of river Ganga by Hanu Dixit, Wager with angels by Nathan Moore, Shake it by Aakash, Strollin by Track tribe, Devils organ by Jimena Contreras, Music bob by Brian Bolger

    I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and its nice to be doing something I love on my Birthday ( cycling and camping) with some mates. We did also get a visit to the pub as well!
    Will be giving the cycling a rest for a day or two to recover!

    Looked like Tony had a memorable Birthday. Sandy it sounded like you said that you used to fly para-motors. If so, that is awesome. You and I have a lot in common. I still have a powered parachute but have not flown it for years. I have a good quality mountain bike as well. I put quite a few miles on it in the past mostly traveling mountain horse trails. I am very impressed by the distance that you fellas traveled in the video.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lonnie, Yes I used to fly paramotor but retired from it a couple of years ago, in total I had around 160 flights mostly enjoyable but I did have a few bumpy thermic rides too:)
      A bad ankle and poor situational awareness made me decide to keep my feet on the ground. I couldn't manage reverse launches no matter how hard I tried due to a slight balance problem I have when I turn quickly (all down to a type of brain tumour called vestibular schwannoma) that I had a few years ago.
      Atleast I was able to tick the paramotoring off my bucket list!
      You will find some paramotor videos on the playlist on my channel.
      Hope you and Connie are both keeping well.
      Sandy

    Hi Sandy, you chose a nice loop to celebrate Tony Birthday, and test out Dave’s new bike. I did that loop in the reverse direction some years back, from what I can remember the canal path appeared to be less over grown for you. It a lovely ride along canal between Hungerford and Reading well all the way to Bath really. Great to see you all out enjoying your off road adventure. Oh Happy Birthday to Tony. 🎂🎂🚵‍♂️🚵‍♂️🚵‍♂️. Nice to see your drone shots, they always give an added view to area’s we often pass . Cheers

Riding along the the canal on those tow paths is such a perfect setting to enjoy a bike ride with friends. 100 miles is quite a long 2 day trip but I am pretty certain that you enjoyed every mile of it (except those horrible and steep steps that were on the trail.) We spent a few days at the canals in Marlborough back when, and spent a lot of time at Weyland’s Barrow and the Ridgeway (the Old Straight Tracks) back a bunch of years. Great country. Quite the nice video. Happy Birthday Tony!

    Happy Birthday Tony ... what a fab ride ..... I love riding towpaths ... and I've loved canals since my teens .... it's been a dream since I was 16 to live on a narrowboat .... and as I want to ride the entire country as much as I can it would be an ideal moveable base camp ...who knows if I actually get uploading I might make it happen if I get it right lol .... tax deductable of course as it would be the basis of my next phase with youtube .... touring the country in a sailaway electric narrowboat, 57 foot so it can cover the entire network that I fit out along the way using all the deadfall I can find on the trails to fit out the boat ... which it would seem is often plentiful on the national cycle network😉 .... and a bow saw matches the profile of my bike trailer so nicely ..... it's red .... so you can't see the blood lol .... nice to see gentlemanly conduct too ... not too fast on the towpaths, stopping for horses and all that .... we need more of that in this country these days ... especially in the e-bike crowd where the primary intention is speed and wheelies .... but that's the whole thing I love about canals is the pace ... they call it canal time as everything is slow .... I like slow .... you experience much more and really see the world .... especially when a camera forces you to look for things to point it at .... I tell you ...photography saved my sanity when I split up with the ex ... so glad I took it up .... anyway I'll shurrup now lol .... I really should think about sleeping .... sheesh artists ...up all night with the noisy heads 😁 .....happy trails fella :o)~

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the pace of life on the canal is slow thats for sure, but back in the heyday of the canal it would have been the industrial motorway:)

      @stoatmcgroaty1586 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WiltshireMan Aye simpler times .... a few generations back my family lived on and worked the canals both as Navvies and boaters so it's in my blood I guess as they always feel like home to me even though I've never owned a boat myself :o)~

      @@WiltshireMan Ohh just as a little newsflash I just finally got an email back from Sustrans .... I'm in discussion with them to put together a scheme where small businesses like cafes, pubs, resteraunts and bike shops could offer a recharge service for customers bike batteries making long distance ebike touring much easier to undertake .... fingers crossed they go for it and hopefully it could help with funding for the cycle network too with the creation of maps and guides containing the directory of scheme members .... thought it might be of interest to you too .... cheers ... @@WiltshireMan eventually if I ever have enough income to stay on them I hope to also review and promote campsites too especially from the perspective of a cycle tourer with consideration to safe storage of bicycles and bike washdown facilities as well as ebike charging .... fingers crossed Sustrans will help though as I see it as a win all round for them, the tourists and the small businesses gaining customers who will no doubt want lots of cake and brews in a few hours of charging time ... I could find an app builder and do it all myself to get rich but I'd rather see it happen with them and just get on with the riding myself lol

    Dear Sandy love your videos , cycle camping , walking or motorbike trips. All the very things I also love doing and also a similar vintage to yourself. I live in South Australia but resided in the UK for 7 years and have many happy memories of walks, motorbike touring and cycle touring in your beautiful country. Currently at home sick and have cheered myself up watching your marvelous travels and your gentle nature. Keep up the great work. Andy👍👍👍

      Hi Andrew,
      Just by coincidence my Uncle was a Pearcey, spelled different, his name was Arthur and the family came from Little Coxwell near Faringdon which would have been in the county of Berkshire in the past, now it's in Oxfordshire. I wonder if there is a family connection

    • @andrewpiercy3691

      @@WiltshireMan Thanks Sandy it is quite possible. Well my Fathers Piercy family were originally from Nettlebed in Oxfordshire. I went there with my Father in 2002 to see my long since past ancestor's graves.The name is of Norman origins and apparently they were Huguenots escaping religious persecution.They settled in Nettlebed and became potters. Once in blighty the name Percy was anglisized to Piercy.
