Thanks I used your method, I just used an external 12v power supply from a camera, it added another thing to plug in but so what.

It's important to note that the "USB" charger that he is using is outputting 12-14V DC (pause video at 6:03), not 5V like a standard USB phone charger. A 5V DC charger is undersized and will not run the pump. The pump requires 12V DC power.

Is there a way to bypass the control board for the compressor?

Hey Jason! Wanted to leave a huge THANK YOU for this video - I have an Opal where I was getting a lower water light, even when full. After watching your video, I realized the float valve sensor was bad. I fixed it by cutting the sensor wire and turning it into a jumper cable as you showed! Back to running again! SO THANKFUL! I never would found the info on the which wires to cut without your help!

Thank heaven my sweetie is an electrician; got this for
his bday. After a thorough interior cleaning (it was BAD), it ran w/a white light, but then turned blue. Primed it, but still seems no power going to the thing that comes on to make ice. Update to come. Thank you for posting!

Clever. I had the same issue with the control board not sending the signal to the pump. My solution was to tap an Arduino into the float switch signal and run the pump when the float indicated low. That was 3 years ago and still works.

Love an arduino fix. I didn’t want to take it that far. That would be a better solution l.

I'm slightly confused. Isn't the pump a 12v pump? Originally, did the pump only run on 5v? Because if that's the case, that would definitely make sense to me that just about any sediment or obstruction would easily stop that pump from working, and probably the root cause of these things failing.

I have the same issue--No matter what I do I cant get 5 volts to the pump--replaced both relays also--wondering if I just cant find another 5v source on the board itself and jump it....

Hey Jason. Looks easy to do but I'm not an electrician so I see the power wires in the front but where is the other red and black wire coming from the back? I have no wires on the usb charger I opened so I have to solder wires. Thanks.

Question instead of using a old USB charger is there something I could buy off amazon to use to convert the AC to DC to make this work?

I am working on fixing mine now and bought a $8 PLG06A-5 ac to dc converter. 5v @.250 amp

@smalltownscarecrow Got it installed and it's back up and running. The board I used is working as expected. Only thing is my machine won't run the pump in cleaning mode so I wonder if it's the way the video shows to wire the float switch.

The circuit board appears pretty basic. Could it have just been a relay that needed replacement? Or maybe a transistor? I like your Mcguyver skills though!

    • @auweagle
      @auweagle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I didn’t want to take the time to test each part of the board to make sure every was working properly. Hence bypassing it to make it work.

Five years? I wish! One year and kaput. Currently diagnosing. Thoroughly cleaned. Trying to run vinegar…
Maybe the pump? We’ll see. Definitely not worth the money.
    Useful video if needed. 👍
EDIT: You remind me of my best friend. He’s an electrical engineer. Lots of fun “projects”. 😁

I wish mine worked. So many bad reviews. I opened it up and it starts to make ice but stops.

They are pretty simple once you see how everything works. Your symptom could be a bad fan, clogged cooling vents or a bad/dirty sensor telling it that it's full of ice, or the pump failing. You can use the app to see the status and see if it tells you bin is full. Mine works great after probably 7 years or so now, I've just had to clean it and descale it on a regular basis. We have hard water and if I go too long between cleanings, it will scale up and start giving errors until you do a thorough cleaning, which admittedly is a PITA:-). Beats a trip to the store every day though, for me anyway.

Yeah, if you know and are charging how can someone contract you to fix it. If you're not going to charge then share it, otherwise kind of a lame move to say something like this and give no follow-up.
