I'm slightly confused. Isn't the pump a 12v pump? Originally, did the pump only run on 5v? Because if that's the case, that would definitely make sense to me that just about any sediment or obstruction would easily stop that pump from working, and probably the root cause of these things failing.
Thanks I used your method, I just used an external 12v power supply from a camera, it added another thing to plug in but so what.
Is there a way to bypass the control board for the compressor?
The best of a game is that
It's important to note that the "USB" charger that he is using is outputting 12-14V DC (pause video at 6:03), not 5V like a standard USB phone charger. A 5V DC charger is undersized and will not run the pump. The pump requires 12V DC power.
I have the same issue--No matter what I do I cant get 5 volts to the pump--replaced both relays also--wondering if I just cant find another 5v source on the board itself and jump it....
Clever. I had the same issue with the control board not sending the signal to the pump. My solution was to tap an Arduino into the float switch signal and run the pump when the float indicated low. That was 3 years ago and still works.
Love an arduino fix. I didn’t want to take it that far. That would be a better solution l.
Hey Jason. Looks easy to do but I'm not an electrician so I see the power wires in the front but where is the other red and black wire coming from the back? I have no wires on the usb charger I opened so I have to solder wires. Thanks.
replace your control board
Hey Jason! Wanted to leave a huge THANK YOU for this video - I have an Opal where I was getting a lower water light, even when full. After watching your video, I realized the float valve sensor was bad. I fixed it by cutting the sensor wire and turning it into a jumper cable as you showed! Back to running again! SO THANKFUL! I never would found the info on the which wires to cut without your help!
Question instead of using a old USB charger is there something I could buy off amazon to use to convert the AC to DC to make this work?
I am working on fixing mine now and bought a $8 PLG06A-5 ac to dc converter. 5v @.250 amp
@@MrAcangler1 can you send me a link to the converter that you are using for this application.
@@smalltownscarecrow youtube keeps deleting the link it looks like. AC-DC 85-264V to 5V 1A 6W Isolated Switching Power Supply Power Supply Module Board PLG06A (PLG06A-5V)
@@MrAcangler1 Have you tried this yet and did you have any success
@smalltownscarecrow Got it installed and it's back up and running. The board I used is working as expected. Only thing is my machine won't run the pump in cleaning mode so I wonder if it's the way the video shows to wire the float switch.
Thank heaven my sweetie is an electrician; got this for his bday. After a thorough interior cleaning (it was BAD), it ran w/a white light, but then turned blue. Primed it, but still seems no power going to the thing that comes on to make ice. Update to come. Thank you for posting!
I broke the code. I found the problem with all these icemakers. Took me about 2 months . I’m going to start charging to fix them.
What do you mean? Care to share?
@@tjpoe …..yea I figured out what the manufacturing problem is. I fixed ours and my parents. Both working just fine. I can’t believe they haven’t fixed it or realize what’s causing all these ice makers to stop making ice. I already reached out to them. They haven’t responded.
@@6xflowerranch890 can you share what the fix is? or what you did?
I would love to hear what you found. Please share :)
Yeah, if you know and are charging how can someone contract you to fix it. If you're not going to charge then share it, otherwise kind of a lame move to say something like this and give no follow-up.
Omgggg cant I just hire you to fix mine! ughh
Five years? I wish! One year and kaput. Currently diagnosing. Thoroughly cleaned. Trying to run vinegar… Maybe the pump? We’ll see. Definitely not worth the money. Useful video if needed. 👍 EDIT: You remind me of my best friend. He’s an electrical engineer. Lots of fun “projects”. 😁
The circuit board appears pretty basic. Could it have just been a relay that needed replacement? Or maybe a transistor? I like your Mcguyver skills though!
I didn’t want to take the time to test each part of the board to make sure every was working properly. Hence bypassing it to make it work.
I wish mine worked. So many bad reviews. I opened it up and it starts to make ice but stops.
They are pretty simple once you see how everything works. Your symptom could be a bad fan, clogged cooling vents or a bad/dirty sensor telling it that it's full of ice, or the pump failing. You can use the app to see the status and see if it tells you bin is full. Mine works great after probably 7 years or so now, I've just had to clean it and descale it on a regular basis. We have hard water and if I go too long between cleanings, it will scale up and start giving errors until you do a thorough cleaning, which admittedly is a PITA:-). Beats a trip to the store every day though, for me anyway.
Is the control board replaceable on it own without having to buy the entire fan assembly? All I can find is a new blower assembly with a new control board. The control boards come off so easily I'm having a hard time believing it's not sold separately. My blower motor is fine but the control board is shorted as the fan comes on as soon as I plug in just the power connector with the vehicle shut off.
Hi Jason. I had the same issue and did your repair. I just tested the blower after cleaning the circuit board and so far it's working perfectly. Thanks man ...
Great Job Jason thanks it worked just tested the blower after cleaning the circuit board and it worked perfectly,
Start with a screw driver to push the gunk through. Then stick your finger through the rubber gasket and pull it back up to pop it out. Then take it inside to clean with soap/water and then show it back in the hole.
How can I clean the drain? Any help will be appreciated
I have since accidentally let my drain get clogged again.... oops. Water got in again so went the blower. The corrosion is now really bad on mine so I have opted to purchase another fan on ebay for $100. I will bring the gopro along and try to make this easier for everyone in the future. If i'm lucky I might even get my guest star the bee to make an appearance.
MERCEDES W164 ML CLASS ML320 ML350 ML550 FRONT AC FAN BLOWER MOTOR part number 1648350007. The fan and computer control board should come as one piece.
Hey Jason, how'd you get the first electrical connector the non light connector to disconnect, I'm having issues getting it apart or to unsnap
+Fredruff there is a clip on both sides of the black plug. Check this other video out at 3:00 minutes in th-cam.com/video/V9Dr0D0FGa8/w-d-xo.html guy shows the complete removal process.
+Jason Killgo Yeah, I was soaking knowledge from both of you... I attempted your method as I had some severe rain the past weekend but after cleaning off the corrosion and plug the fan up before connecting the screws, the fan came on which is the issue thats draining my battery, is it a safe bet to assume I need to buy a new fan blower with the control board?
you appear to be very knowledgeable of his situation and based on the symptoms you mentioned, I believe my 09 ml350 potetially has the same issue after a weekend of non stop rain.... Is the name of that part the blower control module or blower computer board... I am a complete novice at electrical and mechanical car repair, so I want to seek the expertise of someone local but know what I'm talking about when I bring it to their attention..... You said it's under the passenger glove compartment?
Did you ever repair it?
Jason, many thanks for this. I have been getting a dead battery for a couple of days now, tracked it down to the blower. Of course the vent was full of water, due to blocked gromets. Also now just noted the corrusion, and searched on here and found your video. So here's hoping i have as much luck as you:-)
Thanks for your help I have the same problem with my ML350. Because if this my battery died yesterday. I'll try your fix thank you!!
A few months out and the fan is still running correctly. If you need more details let me know.
I saw that too when I was out on the beach...I was letting go some crabs I caught the night before and when I saw the clouds starting to spin and a funnel forming I picked up my flip flops and ran back to my condo...it was really freaky!!!
Al parecer el idiota que filmaba se fumo algo...todo desembocado el zoom
