- To Install an Aftermarket Radio into a Mercedes 2002 ML320. Please follow these instructions. This is the Journey that I had to go through to find where the amp is located. After multiple search online. under the Front See is the Bose Sub. Under the Passenger Seat is the GPS System. Please do not unplug. You will need a Radio install adapter. and an antenna adapter as well. and in the car. Because of the Bose System, the speaker wiring do not match. so that means all you will need to use are the Red, Black, Yellow, Illumination. I was not able to find a plug and play wiring for the Bose system.
I have realized that they AMP is on the FOOTWELL. The amp is hiding, You have life some foam padding to find it.
anyways. I replaced the Amp. and attached new wires. to the wiring that goes to the speakers and add a new Kenwood radio. everything works great.
please follow along as go through the Install of an aftermarket Radio into the ML320.
Aftermarket Radio was purchase from Crutchfield.

Thanks so much I believe you have the only video that shows the amp and explains how to bypass it I'm on my second wire kit and only needed the power figured there was a way to bypass
No problem. I had a lot of issue looking for it. But I’m glad my video help.
Thank you for posting this. There isn't a lot of info out there for bypassing the bose amp, going to do this.
No problem. good luck..
Finally a video that shows a complete install! Well done! I have the same year ml320 and I’m currently in the process of bypassing the amp and had no idea how but this video helped. By the way, what’s the easiest way to run power wire for a amp? I can’t seem to find a proper spot to drill in the firewall for 0 gauge wire.
I looked at this for a bit but I have not done the installation yet. I’m waiting on my friend to have some time. But look at where the battery is located. Check under the AC line, where it goes into the firewall. I believe there is a rubber plug there that you can use. I also believe there is one behind the battery. You will have to take the battery out.
great job, done on the street! If I take ML I will do this
okay cool my video can help if you want to install an aftermarket radio.
Thanks for video, I have a 2000 ML320, it's the same.. I wish you would have showed more on the wiring plug from the old bose amp.. and how u found the speaker wires, also so I understand that speedwire can be ran to the back and used on an external amp right?
You welcome. So to find the wires, You have to peel the tap from the old amp plug as much as possible. The two wires for each speakers are twisted together. So you will know witch two wires goes together. Almost all manufacturers does this when they have an amp installed.
The. You can cut those two wires that are twisted pairs and use a 9 bolt battery to find witch speaker is making the piping sounds.
And yes I love speed wire. One my friend is ready I will run a speed wire to the back and install the am where the old CD changer is located.
Thanks for the video - a lot of us with these vehicles would want to upgrade to today's audio systems. The helps tremendously. What brand by-pass connector and radio housing did you use?
The Wiring hardness that I used is from Metra. part # 70-1784. this connect to the car harness and I used a 9 wires speaker cables to connect my speakers. (its called Speed Wire) the rest of the stuff I customized them myself.
Tres beau travail et bien fait good job
Merci beaucoup frero.
Hi, thank you for the vídeo! Mind if know where you got the bypass for this exact make and model? Also how do you know exactly which one is which? I would really like to ask more on this thanks!
Can you be more specific please? I am not sure what you mean?
That’s a Great video. Please, can you send me a link sere i could buy this kind of radio?
I usually by my radio from Crutchfiled.com. but wuth the pandemic they have been out of stock for a few months. You can do an eBay Search and and even a Good search to give you other options to buy it. but make sure it has all the features that you are looking for.

OK I just bought a 2001 ML 320 and it says Bose on the speakers. My question is when you wired the speaker wires from the head unit to the amp did you plug the amp back in?
Nope the amp is no longer needed. You will loose the subs and some of the speakers. But the owner told me he didn’t car. He just wanted the radio to work. It has not worked in a long time.
Did the same thing on a 2006 xc90 volvo it's realy a piece of 🎂
Nice.
can you put the amp located in the drivers side with its connectors?
I do think there is a way to do it as well. I just have not tried it. the reason that I removed the app is because the owner of the car wanted to install another amplifier. and add a bigger sub. so the factory one will not be good enough.
Is the sound worse without the AMP?
its not as good. but the Radio was not working. and the owner of the car just wanted a new radio. So I had to do what he wanted.
Can you install Bose amp to an after market radio
Technically yes. But those amp are very difficult to install so they don’t make it easy at all. Specially the way they are programmed. It is a lot easier to install an after market. And if you know how to set them up and program them. You can get really really good sound from that amp. Those Amp are designed for a specific vehicle and they are setup and program for that specific car. An After market amp give you a lot more room to work and program it just the way you want..
Thanks for the great tutorial. Qustion do i still need a AMP ? Just want to replace the radio alone.
Actually you don’t need an AMP at all. You just need great Speakers. Since you won’t be using the Factory AMP then don’t worry about it.
Also the Stock Speakers are 2 ohm’s but most After market speakers are 4 ohms so you will get better sound if the radio matches the output to the speakers…
Thanks for the info.
Another question. do i need a wire harness ?
Yes you will need one so that you won’t have to splice the factory wires. I am always against that. But also there are two wires that are backwards the red is were the Yellow is. So you have to repin them.so that means your radio will not hold the info. Like the time and others settings. So watch my video to see where the cables needs to go.
Ok cool, so when i buy pass the amp connect the 9 wire to the Harness then the harness to the radio harness ?
Watch Anthony Rogers vid he shows how to power your bose amp, not bypass it.
Wel when the installations was done the owners wanted me to remove the factory amp and he will be finalizing the install.. also the fire optic cable on that particular car/radio/ model, Does goes to the Amp. Maybe other car are different . I check the CD changer witch was also dead and the cables that goes to it are different. So after spending 2 days on trying to look for those cable I decided to install the radio as I sow on my video.. thanks for your comment.
@@CarStomIt I think part of the issue you had was not knowing exactly which wires go where. If you disconnected the fiber optic thinking it was to the amp then ya the cd changer would appear dead. I don't want to bash just pointing things out because it's extremely frustrating to try to follow advice that is not totally correct. Good luck bro.
@@OllieBabaSan what I am trying to say is that the radio was working. The. CD changer died. Then radio die. The owner wanted an after market radio with car play. And after market amp. So it mad sense to do the Install the way I did. Sorry If I missed any wires/information on the video. Thank you for for pointing that out. I appreciate it.
Dude what? The fiber optic is for the cd changer not the amp!
I follow that cable and it does goes to the Bose amp. Not the CD player. Depend on your car specs you will have different wires and setup for each radio.
