      iirc, philem (rich guy with the bird shot in his eye) was going to buy a sizeable portion of this company from one of the major shareholders. he does his business through pierpoint, the brokerage firm, and his point of contact, Eric (the asian guy) is the facilitator of this deal. The whole point of this retreat was to have face time with the shareholders, really more of a formality before the deal goes through. harper (the black girl) wants to bag this new client Jesse (who's richer than Philem because he's got a bigger pair of balls and did all the right things during the post covid bull market). All the brokerage firms in town wants a piece of Jesse and his business. These guys are like vultures who make a killing on commission moving money for these whales. Harper took the initiative to stand out from the others by giving jesse this long idea on this company that he could potentially make a killing on. So she made another deal with the large shareholder (blond lady) who was supposed to sell her shares to Philem, but instead Jesse became the one to buy those shares. In doing so, she fucked over Philem and Eric (her boss). Philem was the biggest client on their desk, so through this screwup, they would lose him as a client forever. But they gain a bigger client, Jesse. Harper is basically fucking over her own boss to move up the ladder.

    This show is very authentic, the office bullying, the sexual harassments, the materialism, the hierarchy, all very common inside the industry. I work in the finance business, I can tell you this is exactly what happens on a everyday level. The Wolf of Wall Street never felt real to me, this does.

      Bollocks. The Hierarchy is something presence in any office based jobs. The materialism is underplayed on this show. Office Bullying and Sexual Harassment are not “common” in the Industry. Have been in the UK finance sector for 22 years and can attest to this.

    • @Mandon97
      @Mandon97 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @@iexist8293 Sounds very defensive.
      1. “any job” includes this job.
      2. How underplayed is materialism in this show? The PWM basically work as prosxxxx in this show. I know people who do that with board secretaries just to get an equity pledge contract.
      3. A research by “Financial Reporter” last year shows that 35% of financial service employees have experienced work place bullying, harassment or discrimination. That I call common.
      You either are one of the bullying side or you never took the time to read or see the whole picture.

    • @iexist8293
      @iexist8293 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Mandon97 The only reason it sounds defensive is because you are reading my words out in your own head. Yes including this job but not anymore than any other job especially not at an early career/Graduate/Intern level hence why it is not authentic. I meant materialism in relation to possessions but you make a fair point although the motive for the self prostitution in this show is not presented as solely greed which would be more realistic I assume you would agree. Your statistic noticeably does not include Sexual Harassment and does include Discrimination which I would not claim to be absent in the Sector but I also think the Victimhood mentality of the younger generation(s) is a contributing factor to that 35% and actually I am surprised the percentage is not higher on that basis alone. Feel free to speculate about my character but Industry is a drama and I think we both know if the Threshold of harassment was as low as it is in real life in this show it would make for poor viewing.

      This is one reason why working on the trading floor is incredibly fun. You notice that they are having this conversation in a big room where you have everyone listening in. Now imagine you sitting at one of those desk doing your job and watching and listening in to the drama. Industry kind of overemphasizes the dysfunctional parts of working in the investment bank, but there are incredibly fun parts of it. The problem with investment banking is that its no longer that interesting because you now have to file a dozen forms to poop and then another set of forms to wipe your rear end, so I left years ago and got into crypto and the moving money business. One reason I chatter so much online is that I miss the front office drama.

      So the cool thing about working on the trading floor is that you are working at your desk and you witness these dramas happen *every day*. After spending a year just sitting at the desk you learn a heck of a lot just by listening to the chatter.
      The actual drama in this situation is *somewhat unrealistic* in that there would be no way that would get sign-off to execute the trade in a way that would slit Eric's throat, but you could change the situation slightly so make it happen. This would work if Harper and Rishi were working for another group, and instead of an outright takeover (which would trigger a lot of laws) the people just bought enough shares to take over the company indirectly. (So if they had an agreement saying that if X gets Y shares, they have a seat on the board this would work).

      I also thinks Adler wanted damage control. Harper threatened to report sexual harassment from Nicole if she didn't get what she wanted. Adler also explicitly said he didn't like being threatened, which secures his role as the top executive. Exposing her fake transcript and firing her was the perfect play for Adler. From Eric's tone of voice, he didn't want to fire her deep down it seems.

      @@acloudworld7625 Felim is a crucial client for the CPS desk (mainly Eric as Eric is down on production making his relationship to Felim what keeps him on the CPS desk) and was meant to be the anchor of the Rican deal. Harper managed to convice Bloom to buy Rishi's shares in Rican and Felim was then too late but they hoped Bloom would sell to Felim at the shoot. Bloom would have made money off doing that sale to Felim but Harper advised him to instead buy half of Anna's shares in Rican as well to give him a controlling stake. For Harper, this is a choice of the firm or Bloom - always she is refered to as just a 3rd year analyst who's value to clients is dependent on her being with Eric. This was her moment to advise Bloom on 'her' view. So Harper heads back to London to execute a deal behind Eric's back between Anna and Bloom so that Bloom can have a controlling stake. It's basically a betrayal to Eric as she knows how important Felim is to Eric's place at Pierpoint and essentially wrecks Felim's relationship with both Eric & Pierpoint.

    I watched season 1 which I already didn't find that great, but season 2 is almost unwatchable to me.
    Shallow, boring, annoying. Maybe it is realistic, but as a viewer I don't seek for realism, I want entertainment, and this show is all but entertaining.
    The non-existent storyline is compensated with endless scenes of sex (preferrably gay, or men licking women), or drug usage.
    Harper is a boring super-girl type of character that just is the best out of the box, she doesn't develop, doesn't make mistakes, doesn't need to learn,
    and just generally is bad-ass. Jasmin could be a more interesting character but is portrayed in a bad way, her story is confusing and overly complicated.
    Personally I believe that merging these 2 into one character who is unsure in the beginning, then grows with mistakes and gets better,
    and showing more of the twisted character, would have been a much better choice. just my 2 cents.

      Possibly add 15 seconds to that the time you wasted to make the comment.
      Then the time to read what you wrote and then checking back on your like counts. Wasted an extra few minutes just by doing that.
      Your life's a mess anyway

    Nope. Just another throwaway show, like everything else on Netflix these days. Watched the first 10 minutes and was bored 🥱🥱🥱

    • @KK-pm7ud

      It's not like Netflix. It's a lot better show than what you see in ten minutes. You have to watch the whole first season to begin to judge it.
