    "Accuracy isn't that important"
*Me, who has spent almost an hour drawing a leg:* excuse me sir yes we may have a problem

    • @renookami4651

Just drawing it and spending time to get a good pose and proportions?
Or one hour rendering it with details and textures and whatnot?
Because even if quite slow, one is more on the "normal" side than the other... xD

@@renookami4651 good pose & proportions. Also trying to get it to look like a leg

_Paul Rudd goes to CVS_ sounds like it has a more interesting plot than _Rise of Skywalker._

    • @lifeontheledgerlines8394
      @lifeontheledgerlines8394 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

And to be fair, _Paul Rudd goes to CVS_ sounds like it would totally outdo even the finest of productions

I've never really thought of illustration and character design being different. This was helpful.

And the lesson to take home in all of these? *BREAK DA RULES!*
    (after learning them, of course)

Something I like about these characters is that I can feel how they would play in a video game. Quilver would be a fast speedy hit and run metroidvania like a shantae game but more acrobatic. Clangar would charge through enemies like a tank and be a real bruiser like a beatem up game. The Snakeguy would have a more puzzler type of game where you would have to solve Zelda like puzzles. And Biko would be a bouncy platformer but slower and more methodical with lots of different power ups

i haven't really thought of using something other than my characters' colors to shade, i'll try that out!!

Such good things to keep in mind-- I so frequently shoot myself in the foot with my art by fretting over accuracy and process over the aesthetic appeal and results! Also I really love seeing the process of the illustrations come together ❤

Great tips! Gotta be honest Acius (I don’t know how to spell his name) is probably my favorite of the group. I love his bright aqua color scheme, also I always enjoy scientist-like characters. Glad to see him again!
Of course they’re all enjoyable, and I loved watching you design them! :>

These characters give me the same feeling as the movie Mune. They have that fun kind of form following function sense that a lot of those characters have. Liking them a lot.

That's why I have such a hard time figuring out what a character should look like and trying to do a dynamic pose with them at the same time. I'm trying to do both! Thanks Brookes

I realize you've addressed the subject of working conditions before in the vein of physical needs in at least one of your previous videos. However I'm interested in your take on what makes a good and not distracting work space, and maybe hearing about set ups you've had in the past. One reason I ask about this is a lot of us like working in cafes or libraries and have had to scramble to make a work space at home, including myself.
Thank you for all the care you put into your videos. They are a wonderful resource!

A design is functionality. An illustration is the applied outcome of that functionality. A talented artist can still make a bad design into a good illustration much in the way college students can get good grades when creatively rushing an essay. But a good design is an excellent foundation upon which to create a deliberately great illustration, much like how doing the actual research in a timely fashion can lead to great college essay.

How long does it usually take you to iterate through a character concept?
I spent almost eight hours figuring out how to make a character look like a cyborg in the way I wanted, and I didn't even design a character.
    Feels bad. >~
