I had this on pre-order for several weeks but canceled it when the less than stellar reviews started popping up. I love this film and was very disappointed. Thanks for your review-- all of the initial negative reviews for this had me scared off but after watching your meticulous take I decided to pre-order a copy... There's a ton of negativity out there but trust such an in-depth review like this over anyone else's opinion.
Was very excited for this early review, this movie is an absolute fave. Have been looking so forward to it coming out, this and Paramount's next release of Chinatown. Great review and was all that I was hoping it would be! Great review and post.
I would suggest that as always, check the playback on your discs when you receive them. My copy of the film had issues at the 1 hour 16 minute mark. The film froze and skipped. I ejected the disc and gently used a clean lens cloth to ensure there was no dust then played it on multiple players with the same issues. I did notice there were quite a few physical knicks on the 4K disc where the blu-ray was pristine. I went ahead and started the replacement process on Amazon where I ordered it and hopefully, I’ll have better luck with the next copy.

Just watched my copy. Wow, the picture was amazing. The audio was great as well. I thank Scorsese for overseeing this transfer, I hope he does the same thing for Once Upon America next. Absolutely beautiful.

That Blu-ray version never sat well with me. It just seemed off. Looking at the side by side with the 4K gets a wow from me. Looks amazing. The blue in Henry Fonda's eyes just pops from the image like Sergio Leone intended. This is one of the greatest movies ever made. Must buy for me.

Great review. - I have preordered the UK special edition which includes same transfer as US version it also includes rigid outer case and 2 film posters, several lobby cards. It cost roughly the same as in the USA.
The thing with those is no no digital copy Now I've read rumors that studios in US might stop doing digital copies altogether so if that ever happens it'll be cool there'll be no tradeoff

I love this movie but I don't understand this obsession with resolution. How many versions of the same movie do you need? I can't imagine being so obsessed that you have a nervous breakdown because you can't see every pore on an actor's face.
One of my top 3 favourite movies. You could have told me it was shit and i would still buy it. Nice to hear they did a great job. Looking forward to see it again-again.

I'm definitely purchasing this. However I must ask: Was the missing 70 seconds restored to the opening scene? Example-a close up shot of Al Mullock's knuckles. And was the Finale music at the end restored to play to its completion?

Dont understand why 56 megbits per sec .....could that be due original source and restraints? Almost 3 hr film on 66 gig byt disk...could've maybe just put it on a bluray? Just asking 😮
Real shame they crushed this down to a bd66 would have liked to have seen a bd100 and some higher bitrates but its an improvement over the 4k stream at least

🤨As I’ve explained hundreds of times over the years: The NATIVE images in these comparisons always have absolutely NOTHING🚫 to do with any TV settings & they are not pictures from a TV screen!!🙄 As I also explained in this video, these are always the NATIVE images pulled & present directly from on the discs themselves!!👌 TV settings have ZERO🚫 effects because that’s not at all how the tech for pulling NATIVE images from the discs works, it’s not done on a TV whatsoever!!🤦♂️ 😉Hopefully this helps you understand this a bit better!!👍
Obviously, the 4K is more detailed. That was expected. But in some of your screenshots, it looks like they may have gone just a bit too far with the digital sharpening filters. I may not be able to tell until I see the movie in motion. Regardless, I’ll be buying it. It’s just that I favor, archival restoration over digital modernization. I’m just hoping this wont look like Aliens.
Which audio languages are included in the US print please? Apologies in case I missed it. In General, for us European followers it would be great if you could always list/mention which audio languages in addition to English are included and the formats they come in. Amazon does a very bad job on this and often misses to list all audio tracks properly.
Please don't tell me the physical version is the same as the garbage 4K streaming version? the 4K streaming they fully cleaned the grain, it looks modern digital clean look, looks terrible, I would prefer if Kino Lober did this restoration how they did The good, the bad and the ugly.

Please don't tell me the physical version is the same as the garbage 4K streaming version? the 4K streaming they fully cleaned the grain, it looks modern digital clean look, looks terrible, I would prefer if Kino Lober did this restoration how they did The good, the bad and the ugly.

4k overall is a real dissapointment for me . Just cant justify starting my vollection on 4k even though i do buy new films on 4k . Just dissapoints me overall
To maximize the experience uhd films need the top level equipment to show its true colors.
