Just like most of the Uk high streets all going or gone but if you check out north allerton in North Yorkshire where Richie sunak lives that's all thriving no shops closed down and no homeless either...check it out... I live between Newtown and Llandrindod wells and it's even worse than Newtown .😢
newtown, machynlleth, aberystwyth and tywyn all need money invested especially the trains but as usual with wales we dont get the investment England does
Thank you for the mention :) It is tragic to see the number of closures, especially in recent months. Sadly, it is the same all over the country. We are doing our best to support the town and community by committing to an otherwise empty building.
Hi used to live in Caersws then Carno and worked as a binman in Newtown. Remember all those shops being open and a good market. The Chelsea buns from Evans bakery were amazing. Left in 2016 for the Scottish Highlands and we have the same problems here. Makes you wonder if the powers that be are doing it on purpose.
Town Council's sadly have become corporate for profit businesses, .. rather than community witans of wise public servant volunteers, .. that truly love and care for their communities, customs and heritage, .. if all the people of our communities could get more organised, we could lawfully take back all our communities under our natural unalienable common law constitutional principles and perhaps protect all our heritage in trust, .. We could save, do up and protect all our most loved and treasured community buildings, .. through volunteer maintenance, we could really listen to everyone in the community and help solve any and all the problems, we could restore pride to our town, promote our rich cultures of singing, history, poetry, food, music, literature, performance entertainment, attract and promote tourism, become a leisure activity hub and encourage enterprise to help generate a bit of income for our communties, support our local independent businesses more, help educate and give worthwhile activities and opportunies to the younger generations and everyone, help end poverty, loneliness, help fill in all the pot holes, train our police/peace constables properly, help end all anti-social issues, help end all vandalism, ..
The trouble that has been, is that most of the local, .. politicians and other public servants don't really love and care about the local communities, they appear to bought or mind controlled to believe in all these corrupt globalist policies that involve corrupt fake science mind control propaganda narratives, ..
The loss of EU regional funding naturally causes Wales to decline. The UK hasn't established any alternatives for the funding. Regions now have to become self-sufficient or decline. Money-making centres get richer as they do not have to share with the regions. Therefore, it's easier to buy new properties in beautiful areas and inflate local prices without benefitting old-timers. For the first time, it's bizarre that the Baltic states under the EU became richer GDP per capita than Wales without the EU.
Have you ever encountered an actual example of people claiming expenses for working from home? ( I mean apart from some rumor from some random bloke down the pub).
The council is enacting the UN/WEF plan. CBDs converted to residential and services. All businesses close and/or move to distribution centers on outer ring roads. Most towns are showing the same early signs.
I travel to Newtown regularly on a Saturday morning to shop and eat in Jack's cafe! So sad seeing Newtown like this on a Saturday morning when you think of all the shops that have gone from Newtown over the years 😢
@@justroamingaround2538 No problem was a great watch…Massive shame for sure I hate seeing our beautiful little Welsh towns go down the toilet….bet it don’t happen as much in England aye
Utter nonsense. Its got nothing to do with government or town councils. The online retail offer is better than traditional high street retail prices. This is why the high street is dying If you shop online then you yourself have a lot to answer for.
For comparison : the company where I work it's roughly 30% of people at their desks on most days. On the days when we have 'happy hour' with free food and beer, it's no different.
Lower rents and tax rates, give people the opportunity to do business for the prosperity of the local economy, all parties will be able to enjoy the common good, both residents of Newtown and surrounding residents. If Newtown becomes a ghost town, the council and Government should be blamed for this because they have no vision and idea to develop this small town, they only know how to collect taxes from the people's low income.
Bet you shop online don't you. So you are responsible for the rapid decline in high street retail. Its got nothing to do with government or town councils. Online retail is simply a better offer and there is no denying basic economics.
You would think with the thousands of extra houses Newtown is collecting poll tax on it could lighten up on business rates or is the money being ploughed into its pension fund or political "expenses" payouts
Well there are questions being asked here and I have an answer that I don't think anyone has touched on here, a very obvious answer. Lets spell it out shall we, just like that 70s song; T E S C O. Perhaps not that one vast Tesco alone but he sum of all the large supermarkets in Newtown. There are too many, how could the small town centre ever stand a chance, with , how many, 5 superstores sucking all of that trade away. The Tesco alone is a behemoth that doubles as a department store.
I feel like I should point out that there are so many factors that contribute to this & they're not _all_ political. For example -it's a matter of fact that travel agents are an anachronism in 2023. For another example up until fairly recently I used to be a fairly regular consumer of print media but when my paper of choice starts to nudge £3 per day then sadly I'm priced out of the game - which is a loss which I pass onto my local newsagent. & for another example if you're the sort who would sooner order everything you ever need from Amazon & uber eats whilst you sit in bed then you can't pretend to be surprised when a town centre dies.

Wow. Your town is really dying. So sad. That rent is ridiculous, council tax going up too? As RhydTuned says, put the money back into the town and subsidise that extortionate rent.
You are yet another conspiracy nut. The online offer is simply better than high street retail prices. If you shop online then you are contributing to the death of the high street...bet you do. There is no plan its just simple economics.
The rents are ridiculous. Bear Lanes- £1000pcm for one of those shops. That's why they're all empty and have been for years. As for homeworkers 'claiming' more, that's not accurate. Covid showed that office based work can be done at home. Staff are more productive too as they prefer to be at home. Cheaper for the workforce to work at home, so they get rid of the expensive offices. It's a saving for the council, but that saving should be put back into the community.
Covid was a Leftist ploy to kill off the town centres...if your unaware Drakeford and Welsh govt are busy buying up as much farmland as possible, then re letting it as ANYTHING but farming . See the Netherlands and Canada , both left led countries who have been systematically trying to kill agriculture, in the laughable claim of saving the planet ...the cashless utopia idea of the new wave of champagne socialists is sickening , one of wealthiest people in Newtown is now a non British resident who is buying pubs and turning them into cash farms by letting to immigrants etc . Newtown rent and rates have always been a problem, and only getting worse due to a single estate agent now having a nigh on monopoly on rental properties..
What a shame they've cluttered the otherwise lovely town with such pointless ugliness, rather than, as you say, put the funds into upkeep and rejuvenating the very town they're trying to "update". Different way of thinking, that's for sure! Blind...
Bet any money you shop online. Don't you. The online offer is simply better than high street prices. We all moan about the demise of high street retail but that's all most of us do. With no high street shops there will be no reason to visit town centres any more and eventually even fast food outlets will go. Sign of the times I'm afraid.
Same story all over the UK. All that’s left are pound shops, charity shops, chain coffee shops and hairdressers. No town is any different, all the shopping is done out of town and on the net. People are there worst enemy, support local businesses, stop using deliveries, get off your butts and get involved.oh, the world is so much better these days.....really?

I stayed in Newtown in the mid '90's on a motorbike holiday. It was one of the most pretty and thriving towns I'd ever been to, so much so that I still consider moving up that way someday. As usual though, Wales always gets it in the ass from the Government. This isn't a problem unique to Wales though, I lived in Cambridge all my life and that is going the same way. The rents are absolutely ludicrous, as are the business rates and when you combine that with the cost of living, the whole thing is unsustainable. Greedy bloody landlords and councils, sadly, It's going to get worse.
