It will not be compatible with your EF lenses. And AF assist beam will not work.
Canon and Nikon copied Sony by ending the EF & AI mounts.

Looks like Canon are finally back in the game. But in the 2+ years that it took, they must have lost thousands of shooters (like me) to Sony. It's too costly to keep switching, so many will probably never return.
And why did it take 30 years to re-implement eye-control autofocus? It worked pretty well in the EOS 5 and then we were robbed of it.

I’d love to know the number that left. When I upgraded to the Canon 5D Mark IV back in November of 2016 it was leaps better than the crappy 5D Mark III. And at the time the Sony mirrorless wasn’t ready, IMO and for making the leap to mirrorless as a pro. As a professional photographer of over 20 years I try to get at least 4 years out of my camera bodies and sometimes more. I get that the new group of photographers get caught up in the upgrade game and I wonder if mobile phones have something to do with that. Either way when I was ready to make the leap to mirrorless the R was meh and I just waited for the R5. Couldn’t be happier and the ROI on my Mark 4 was epic. I was able to buy a full kit with cash. As a editorial photographer and weddings the 28-70 RF 2.0 paired with the R5 makes shooting exciting again. I’m not switching primes like a madman and I’m just getting so much out of that setup. One of my second shooters is leaving Sony because she sees the ease of my day with one camera in hand pretty much the entire day. Meanwhile she has a dual camera strap with 2 cameras a 35 and an 85 swinging around and adding sweat stains from the leather hipster S&M straps. 🤣

@@BusStopBourbon I was a professional Canon APS-C shooter from about 2004 (10D) through to two years ago (80D). I used the full-frame cameras occasionally where a job demanded it, but I never had the budget or need for a 1-series body. I loved the ergonomics of Canon, but in the end I was trying to shoot corporate portraits against a window. The only way I could get reliable AF was in clunky Live View. A Sony "test-drive" day was on in my city, so I went along. The α7iii was right in my budget and the eye AF blew the 80D out of the water. I was sold. As for carrying two bodies and hipster straps... well, I guess that's a personal choice, but I don't see what it has to do with which camera system you're using. I'd gladly use the current Canon R cameras, but the α7iii does everything I need. The α7iv is just around the corner, so I'm curious to see what advances it brings, and at what price point.
