Wow, this isn't even almost the same song as the album. It's like an entirely different composition. Some bands, their acoustic sets are just their regular songs played slowly on acoustic guitars, but this is a different song entirely. I never cease to be amazed by Bon Iver
This is probably my favourite version of this song. The Sydney live version is so incredible, but that low moan in this recording puts chills up my spine
It is incredible to see this man. A wonderful voice with a hell of a range and on top of that he writes some of the most beautiful and deepest lyrics out there!
LYRICS: Don't you cherish me to sleep Never keep your eyelids clipped Hold me for the pops and clicks I was only for the father's crib Hair, old, long along Your neck onto your shoulder blades Always keep that message taped Cross your breasts you won't erase I was only for your very space Hip, under nothing Propped up by your other one, face 'way from the sun Just have to keep a dialogue Teach our bodies: haunt the cause I was only trying to spell a loss Joy, it's all founded Pincher with the skin inside You pinned me with your black sphere eyes You know that all the rope's untied I was only for to die beside So itʼs storming on the lake Little waves our bodies break There's a fire going out, But there's really nothing to the south Swollen orange and light let through Your one piece swimmer stuck to you Sold, I'm Ever Open ears and open eyes Wake up to your starboard bride Who goes in and then stays inside Oh the demons come, they can subside
Brilliant, just as pure and honest as the album version. Washes over you like cool water! I hope that we can only try to give of something similar in our music. This really is something special x
Anyone else here from searching "Bon Iver deep voice songs"? I discovered them through Exile and the falsetto is great, but God bless deep voice Bon Iver
So why do so many "twankers" with no talent make so much money (I'm talking Justin B., Miley C., Rhianna, etc.) and get so much exposure while true musicians like these guys have to tour endlessly to make a buck? I guess it shows that Arthur C. Clarke was right when he answered a question from an aspiring writer in the 50s. The question was: why are so many best-sellers crap? Clarke's answer was appropriate: "Because crap floats". This band is timeless. Thanks for posting.
Probably because Justin isn't doing this to make a buck. He makes music because he can't help it. True expression. But ya, I couldn't agree more. JV is a legend.
Yes, I agree. It also makes me sad that Rihanna and Miley have beautiful voices and reach very high tones but their music is so empty. Such a waste of talent.
Fernanda, your comment is spot on. Their music is empty, just product, like over 95% of country music or the "modern classical" noodling that passes off as music. The reason I think those musicians have no soul is that they have never really known sadness or suffering. With all their millions and the fact that they have never come up from the club circuit (or is that "circus?), they have never grown in depth. All their stuff is like Cheez Whiz, all filler with no substance.
This young man goy us through winter hard times listen to many songs in winter after my brothers body was dumped like a fog in the cold winter woods by a river near close to home
His falsetto singing voice has been how he's performed predominantly for pretty much the entirety of Bon Iver so I'm not sure what you mean by "these days"?
@@jonathanb1406 you're obviously correct, so I will have to be more clear with my thoughts so you don't get offended: nowadays = this song and the one he participated with Taylor Swift, pretty much it.

This version oddly reminds me very slightly of Leonard Cohen. To start with at least. Maybe, I might end up going to listen to Cohen and think "fuck, I was miles off".
Love this cover of Bon Iver by Justin Vernon.

This is probably my favourite version of this song. The Sydney live version is so incredible, but that low moan in this recording puts chills up my spine
The line “you pinned me with your black sphere eyes” reminds me of my husband’s gaze whenever he looks at me and how I feel captivated by it❤️
this version is so much better than the one in the album..so much emotion!
How can I ever go back to the original studio recording now?
He's the only one to cover his own song better than his own song.
You can’t. His live stuff is always better. Can’t be avoided.
Still prefer the original cause of the synths. But prefer his voice in this one
His falsetto is like a cool breeze on a scolding hot day and his low voice is like a warm cut of coffee on a chilly morning.
+Lucas Merat oh my god that is the greatest use of the english language ever
+Matthew Stanley forreal
Right on. Wished he would use his low voice more. It’s is something special.
Spot on, brother!
his range, wow.
💫
It is incredible to see this man. A wonderful voice with a hell of a range and on top of that he writes some of the most beautiful and deepest lyrics out there!
Wow..... it's interesting to hear the lower tones of his voice
why hasn't anyone talked about how Sean is playing a piece of paper and a music stand.....
I love them.
Dude literally plays everything.
made me smile
Im grade 5 music stand 😏
Yep, thoroughly convinced now that Bon Iver invented winter
Bon iver even means good winter in French lol
nah dog, bon hiver means good winter in French. however, the name bon iver is derived from this
Will I know he said he didn't want to keep the hiver because it reminded him of his liver disease or whatever... but yeah you're right
Keep that fire blazing, Won’t be long now, my brethren.
💯
LYRICS:
Don't you cherish me to sleep
Never keep your eyelids clipped
Hold me for the pops and clicks
I was only for the father's crib
Hair, old, long along
Your neck onto your shoulder blades
Always keep that message taped
Cross your breasts you won't erase
I was only for your very space
Hip, under nothing
Propped up by your other one, face 'way from the sun
Just have to keep a dialogue
Teach our bodies: haunt the cause
I was only trying to spell a loss
Joy, it's all founded
Pincher with the skin inside
You pinned me with your black sphere eyes
You know that all the rope's untied
I was only for to die beside
So itʼs storming on the lake
Little waves our bodies break
There's a fire going out,
But there's really nothing to the south
Swollen orange and light let through
Your one piece swimmer stuck to you
Sold, I'm Ever
Open ears and open eyes
Wake up to your starboard bride
Who goes in and then stays inside
Oh the demons come, they can subside
The live version of this in Sydney is unreal.
He's so handsome and that voice gives me shivers
This is still the most captivating, incredible, booming voice i have ever heard in any song.
Noah McDaniel check out a band called the white buffalo. Very similar sorta feeling
In my humble opinion, this is The Best version of this song ! Thank you !
I agree i prefer this to the albumn version.
Beautiful, beautiful song
The drummer is playing a music stand. A true acoustic set.
and paper
This song is really heartbreakingly lovely . I've listened to for close to an hour and I have felt so many things I thought I couldn't feel anymore .
This song is magic. Sincerely, a fellow Calgarian
I found inspiration again. Seriously thought I was done with music until I saw Heavenly Father Acapella at the Sydney Opera house
Tommy Lourdes That is still one of my favorite versions on that song! ❤
Incredible version
Their songs are just hypnotizing. They make me so calm.
So its storming on the lake... I think this is better than the studio version, isn't it? Loved it.
seriously the most beautiful song in the world.
Anyone in 2021 listening to this masterpiece?
2024 now and yes we still come back regularly
Is funny how the best Calgary cover on the whole TH-cam is from Bon Iver himself
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL VERSION OF THIS SONG!!! LOVE his voice in this, wish he done more songs like this.
amazing voice....I've been listening Bon Iver for the past 3/4 years and I'm still amazed how good his voice is....just WOW
The most beautiful ,talented artist ever!
i'm responsible for most of the views on this
Need the first 30 seconds of this on repeat in my head for the rest of my life
beautiful voice, beautiful song, and beautiful man.
This version makes me think I can sing like him, then I listen to the rest of his music and realize I have no talent
I feel you.
don't bother trying to sing like him, sing like you :)
LOL
This version is the best version :)
This guy is amazing. What a range! Sounds like another singer. His music got such a depth.
So friken beautiful
Extremely beautiful. I wish his album version was like this. But both are great
I've been listening to different versions of Calgary, and now that the other ones are listened, this one is perfect 😅
Better than original by far ! The lower tones are so much better sometimes
I love both versions
The strange thing about this song, the fast version is uplifting and the acoustic one is oddly sad
so much better than disco version! more please!!!
This is why I love Bon Iver: the stripped down organic versions of his songs sound as great as the full 11 piece band.
Brilliant, just as pure and honest as the album version. Washes over you like cool water!
I hope that we can only try to give of something similar in our music.
This really is something special x
So much better than the album version.
No
yes
Hauntingly beautiful.
This version is my favorite of all his songs.
so much soul and passion into this song, and that voice! It's just amazing!
Miss this style of Bon Iver. So emotional and "true". His auto-tune stuff are interesting but I really like this style.
He sounds so much like leonard cohen in this cover
Anyone else here from searching "Bon Iver deep voice songs"? I discovered them through Exile and the falsetto is great, but God bless deep voice Bon Iver
This man is important
goosebumps everytime i watch this!
His voice is so different in this song. Love it
ST. PAULI!
I enjoyed this version alot lately. Great music!
What a voice. Just amazing
Genius at work.
2019 and this song still gives me chills
Still my favourite original performed before a like a version. It was almost like we got two, this was the other side of this song. How good.
same, so much.
love this friggin' version

"Amen" to that.
best version of this song
agree!!!
This song means so much to me x
I love the Album, but I alway come back this version of Calgary
This cover need more views for real!
Tolles Lied,geiles T-Shirt 😊😊😊
simply beautiful
It's 24 degrees in Cologne, I am just thinking about melting away and then this song makes me walk upon the clouds, makes me fly away...
so beautiful
OMG ITS BACK
Best version of that song yet. I dig it more than the record version at least.
he never ceases to amaze me. Ive begun trying to record some stuff akin to his. thanks
Freaking love this version... all day
This song definitely has a Leonard Cohen flavor about it.
nice to see that there are more persons who know what real music is :)
thats literally the best idea i've ever heard! it needs to happen!!
thank you so much!

i love this version better than the one in the official video. but both are beautiful
That was exactly what I thought! Vernon and Cohen have the same rich, comforting voice. :)

Damn Bon Iver is surely one of the best modern poets who supports classic morals!!
God , I love your voice!
beautiful voice...a true singer-songwriter...the baritone parts, dam thats low!
This version oddly reminds me very slightly of Leonard Cohen. To start with at least. Maybe, I might end up going to listen to Cohen and think "fuck, I was miles off".
I've been thinking this ever since I heard Bon Ivers first album! :)
My one wish in life is that I had a voice like that.
Masterpiece ❤
Thank you
I love this.
beautiful voice & beautiful music
I just love this song being sung in a lower register. Wow.
so beautiful damn
Sad music makes me sad but im sadder without it
Still the most perfect interpretation of the song
Wish he played it like this more often
holy shitstix
This is so beautiful
Simply great music... love this. Better than studio version on album!! and tshirt of St. Pauli I see =) =)
This version i like so much, make me feel high, i love you bon iver
so.magical
Fricking amazing. I don't even know how to deal with this right now.
Pure beauty
Essa é a melhor versão de Calgary♥️
