Germain was basically the Palpatine of the ac series. He dressed like him, played another side temporarily fooling the side he's against.

He was genius to take advantage of the revolution and its chaotic attributes, claiming that people needed to fear things to become obedient, which in turn leads to peace. He would’ve burn France and built it right up into something different. Yet, he died and Napoleon destroyed France because all of those wars in Europe.

1:25 It is seen that the Guard was trying to protect Germain at that time, but the latter killed him so that the Guard would not reveal his true identity as a Templar Master to Arno

Funny that Arno saw the King of the Beggar's memories in third person perspective, considering that he was looking directly at Germain's face.

More or less. Roberts in AC4 was smart, but did not aimed for anything. Here, the sage was a Templar. And one devoted to the true line of thought of the Templars.

Germain and de Molay were quite different from Standish and Roberts where Germain made no mention of Juno or the Observatory, while it is obvious from the last two that they were both obsessed with releasing Juno. Before Unity I assumed other Sages would share the same personality and motives. Maybe other sages only share different aspects of Aita's personality and memories.

‘ a brief taste of chaos will remind them why they crave obedience’
A shame, these memory corridor conversations are what makes AC great imo. The characters often speak like poets. (although we might not get to see the philosophical debates between the two ideologies as Arno doesn’t show much affinity for the Creed at this point in his life)

@@homanism6438 Not necessarily. Even when Arno was a child there was hatred for the French monarchy. Civilians had already started whispers of doing something about it. @@homanism6438 Germain wanted to see humans returned to the state of being slaves, of course him being a reincarnation of Aita, Juno's husband. I doubt Shay would side with him, all that Shay wanted when he joined the order was that the precursor sites be left alone as they had the power to destroy cities. He joined the Templars with humanity's safety in mind, not humanity's slavery.
