    No Praetorian would be casually leaning on the back of the praetor's seat in the manner shown. Also, while there were female gladiatorial contests, they were uncommon, and they were always between one gladiatrix and another, never with a male opponent.

    The Romans did not use the thumb up as meaning left him live. It was the thumb DOWN - meaning that the winner put his weapon into the sand (of dirt) and spare the loser. The sign for death was the thumb to the throat meaning kill the loser.

      @YouTubeallowedmynametobestolen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you, I did not know that.
      You learn something new every day if you're not careful!
      UPDATE: Hold on a minute.
      Wikipedia makes it much less clear. Apparently, some guy named Juvenal, in sometime in the second century A.D. (c. 110--127 A.D.) wrote this:
      "Now they give shows of their own. Thumbs up! Thumbs down! And the killers, spare or slay, and then go back to concessions for private privies."
      While it is clear that the thumb was involved, the precise type of gesture described by the phrase and its meaning are unclear in the historical and literary record." And a classical studies professor named Anthony Corbeill, who extensively studied the practice, concluded that thumbs up was a signal to kill the gladiator, while "a closed fist with a wraparound thumb" meant to spare his life.

    • @dondragmer2412
      @dondragmer2412 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    WTF, a woman gladiator wearing a bra that wasn't invented till,
    According to magazine, in 1889 Herminie Cadolle of France invented the first modern bra. It appeared in a corset catalogue as a two-piece undergarment, which she originally called the , and later (or "the well-being"). Her garment effectively cut the traditional corset in two: The lower part was a corset for the waist and the upper part supported the breasts with shoulder straps. Her description reads "designed to sustain the bosom and supported by the shoulders." She patented her invention and showed it at the Great Exhibition of 1889. The company, still family-owned, claims today that Herminie "freed women by inventing the first Bra." By 1905, the upper half was sold separately as a , the name by which bras are still known in France. She also introduced the use of "rubber thread" or elastic.

      @oahuhawaii2141 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of course, there's no cents because that isn't a system based on 100 fractional units. The Romans had the libra for its currency using metals of various weights, divided into fractional units of 12 or 60. That's why we have 12 troy ounces per troy pound, 24 hours/day, 60 minutes/hour, 60 seconds/minutes, 360 degrees/cycle, etc. The concept in currency continued by the British with its £sd system until decimalized in 1971. The Americans moved away from £sd to dollars and cents shortly after its founding, with $1 equal to 100¢.
