Roy Ayers is one of the most innovatively smooth artist of the 20th century. He combines the sounds of the 1940's with a pop-funk sound which creates an unforgettable experience in music.
In fact if you've ever read his biography, then you know that his mother took him to see Lionel Hampton in concert. Hamp gave him a pair of his mallets and that set him on this life long musical journey
Roy was an extraordinarily busy fellow during the 70s when Let's Do It was released and well into the 80s. He had the soundtrack for Coffy, he was working with Ubiquity on several albums and he collaborated with Wayne Henderson and Fela Kuti on two albums. He performed a lot of material in the studio some of which has only recently seen the light of day ( think Virgin Ubiquity the unreleased CD set ). His output during this period is just amazing and I've enjoyed much of what I've heard. Much of his music from that time is highly collectible
Actually, the original version was recorded in 1972 and appears on the Roy Ayers Ubiquity album entitled “He’s Coming.” But this 1978 version is my favorite.😊
Just lost the love of my life when this album came out, we never got back together
BROKEN DREAMS AND PROMISES THATS THE WAY LOVE ALWAYS IS ! 😢

His farewell tour this year before he retires, last chance to see him for me next month at the shepherds bush empire, london.
The drummer is riding that hi hat like a horse! Classic disco beat!

Genius. I saw him live last year, which was perhaps a year or two too late, but still fantastic.

Spotify doesn't even have this version.
for me this is the best version, however its not the original which came off the Roy Ayers Ubiquity "He's Coming" album of a few years earlier.
@@jazzfunksoulfusion5639 I have this version in my personal collection, my favourite also, although the live version is pretty close.

Strange info above: Nuyorican Soul is definitely NOT the artist here though they did a breathgiving remake with the master Roy himself in 1995.
