i've always loved this version! great great great
So, still to me this song could be the definition of high energy jazz-rock fusion from that time. Yes, too bad Kenny Gorelick left the band, but... Santana lost Schon and Rolie and yet they formed Journey. Tower of Power lost Chester Thompson and he played for Santana for more than a couple decades. ToP also lost Lenny Pickett, and he's been the the sax and band director on SNL for more than a couple of decades. Things change. And more great music seems to come out of it. Even from Jeff Lorber. Take a look at Jeff Lorber Fusion at the Baked Potato here on this site. Things change, and people grow also.
Thank you, Earl Robinson at WKAR back in the seventies. The Golden Rod is timeless. Still sounds good.
There's something about that rock-solid intro that won't leave me alone. It's been 'not leaving me alone' for 45+ years and that's fine with me.
Just lost the love of my life when this album came out, we never got back together

"Leo's Sunshipp was supposed to be the next big thing; a soulful, jazzy, disco funk supergroup formed by ex-Marvin Gaye backup singers. The band revolved around singers Kenny Stover, Johnny Simone, and Alvin Few; all were born under the astrological sign of Leo, thus the name. The sound is a mash up of mid 70s smoothed out soul and gooey jazz funk a la Roy Ayers. Lead vocalist and songwriter Johnny Simone tragically passed just four tracks into this debut. After much hesitation from bandmates, the album was eventually released with bonus instrumental versions filling in the gaps for a releasable LP. "Give Me the Sunshine" was a minor hit, but with the heart and soul of Leo's Sunshipp gone, they disbanded."
Man I wish they still made music like this this reminds me of my old hood prairie court the PCs..frank nitty 1 love
