I don't think you can overestimate what a clever/sensible innovation that battery system is. Most city-based riders would struggle to charge at home due to lack of off-street parking, and this just immediately makes that a non-issue.
There are already plenty of two wheeled e-vehicles with removable batteries (Super Soco TC MAX, Artisan/Kollter ES-1 - two examples off the top of my head). The only novel thing here is the wheels/handle arrangement.

That removable battery makes so much sense if you live in a flat for instance, without easy vehicle (charging) access 👍

@@philtucker1224 If you only had stairs or even too rough a surface, 4 separate cases with carry straps and/or handles would be better. If you were weak, you could do 2 at a time, and if you were strong, you could clip them in pairs and do it in one trip. You should have both options at purchase, because each has it's own application.
That removable battery with it's own set of wheels just blew me away. 😍
Love that removable 🔋 battery. So many commuters live in blocks of flats so this is great feature.
As long as you have a lift. It weighs 40kg.

When I was staying in Beijing a few years ago, it was common to share the lift with an electric moped being taken upstairs to charge!

In Asian countries they have removable bats for years because of one major reason: Nobody have to charge their battery! You just drive by a "vending machine" - many of them located in the cities - pull that thing out, pay the slot and you get in seconds a fully charged exchange batterie, while "your" batterie is charging up for the next customer. Thats it. Thats genius and I don't get it, why in Europe this absolutely brilliant simple concept is not copied. That´s the way to go - or drive ;)
Our government in the UK are backwards and old fashioned. They have destroyed the UK. we are behind on everything.
Congrats on getting the CBT. Would love to see more Motorbikes and Scooters reviewed on FullyCharged. Even crowds like MCN arent doing very much coverage of the sector, except for Harley (Livewire), Zero and BMW.
Given how Vmoto is taking the small bike market by storm, its does seem silly. But those are bikes ridden by Young new riders, and I think MCN really only cares about middled age riders at times.
Great comment, I have a full bike license but currently no bike. A reasonably well performing bike like this seems very attractive economically for many purposes.
The one specification I always wanted in a motorbike was that it had to be able to do around 60 mph because that more or less guaranteed I could always match the traffic flow...driving anything slower means you can end up in scary situations with everyone being determined to overtake you no matter how dangerous the circumstances for overtaking are ....and that bike fits the bill !!! slow mopeds and bicycles are too scary for me
bicycles are only scary to use if there is no proper bicycle infrastructure.
@@DarkDutch007 we have proper cycle infrastructure. They're called roads. Some buggers keep inconsiderately driving cars on them.

In the mean time, bicycles should not mix with cars on roads with a speed limit above 30km/h / 20mph and/or if the road has 2+ lanes in one direction.

Not sure if this is true, hold the set button as you turn them on, and it opens the core menu. Where supposedly you can take go full ooomph . No idea if it's faster , but it must be limiting its top speed.
That battery that is its own carrier is genius. The only thing that could improve it, I think, is some sort of protective cover over the hole it leaves behind just to keep out the trash and weather.
Better still if you can get an accessory that lets you use the battery standalone as a power source for accessories perhaps?
Apparently, there is a DC/AC inverter available to attach to the battery pack to do just that!
It has a small cover to protect the electrical connection
Just to add; you can do that: remove the battery and there is a connection port at the back that lets you charge your laptop or phone

I've rode motor bikes, scooters and driven cars for decades and I am of the opinion that new car drivers should have a day on a scooter before learning a car. This scoot looks great. Would be good for hire on holiday in Spain.
I've said the same for ages - only not just a day (they can get lucky and have an almost no traffic day!) but a full year on two wheels, before they can have four low-powered wheels, and no passengers except one experienced driver - for another year. If they've learned how to not crash after that, they should be ok! That will stop rich Daddy from buying his school-leaver a Ferrari for the birthday!
As someone from the US, oh heck no! If spending a year, or even a DAY on a motorcycle on Atlanta streets was a requirement for licensing, there would be a LOT more unlicensed drivers. And up north, where it snows for 6 months? Yeah, not happening. Motorcycles are mostly toys here. Very few ppl have them as their only means of transport
If you come to Barcelona, you will have lots of these scoots ready to try in "scooter sharing" form. Here are rebranded as "Seat Mó", yes, the car manufacturer has rebranded the Silence and put it on the streets in an app share way. For 2€ you could have a test and visit a nice city, the best way.
Also people should see a video/talk put together by turckers/LWB vans/bus/coach etc. before driving cars
Once you are used to biking, you become more aware of what the traffic around you is doing - - You HAVE to, to survive! (and as a result, I think you become a better car driver, because you LOOK - instead of glancing - for bikes!)
Drive a car in Thailand - forces you to become a better driver - because the bikes can come from anywhere. (wrong side of the road is common, also seen one go the wrong way around a roundabout, etc.). Don't think I'd ever choose to ride a motorbike there though - the roads are way too dangerous.

One of the big positives for electric bikes is on farms. ICE motor bikes are a pain in the butt. Always needing service - storing fuel etc etc etc. In fact anything battery electric is better on a farm.
Totally agree. I'm even using a battery chainsaw (for short-ish jobs), and whenever I go back to my 2-stroke chainsaw I wonder how I ever put up with all the work of cleaning the air filters & spark arrestor, mixing fuel, tweaking the fuel/air mixture, and all the other buggerizing around that I'd never even noticed before...
Especially on a wind farm.

More bike stuff deffinately, I’ve commuted for years from the outskirts of Kent to Central London on motorcycles of all sizes the electric thing is kind of intriguing, not sure it would work for me. brilliant, I enjoyed that!! I bought a Silence S01 two years ago in Spain and I still love it! Plenty fast enough for me and ideal for city and the occasional B and A road! Brilliant battery concept and storage. More motorcycle reviews please!!

Had a test ride on one of these @ Fully Charged Outside a couple of months ago - it was amazingly quick off the line, to the point where you have to be careful in 30 mph areas...! Seriously considering one - at around 5k, not that bad when compared with ICE equivalents, the top range Peugeot is only a little less at £4675! Brakes are good - they use a 'combined braking system', where one brake lever operates both front and rear brakes, the other just the front brake - but combined with regen braking as well..
Well done Jack! This video took me back to my days doing surveillance. The camera angle and jerky footage so reminiscent of those days 😬😬

It’s a scooter NOT a moped, mopeds are restricted to 30mph!!! They can also be driven by someone with a full car licence without L plates. Calling it a moped can confuse people not familiar with motorcycle licence requirements.
the use of "Scooter" is already confusing as it also get used for meaning a push/kick scooter, electric or not, in the English language.
Why not say motorcycle if it is a motorcycle and need A or A1 or A2 license?
And use moped for the vehicle you need the AM license?

You got the Ninebot F30 and the Silence S01, one is an electric kickscooter the other an electric motorscooter, both get called scooter by the general public or since they are both electric, e-scooter.
While a scooter is a toy, the e-scooter is a viable alternative mode of transportation.
@@DarkDutch007 but you don’t sit on a Segway, no one looking at it could confuse it with a moped. A 16 year old can ride a moped, not a motor scooter for which you need to be 17. My whole point is that although a moped and a motor scooter look similar they have different licence requirements and calling a scooter a moped could confuse people.
@@sergentcolon1 A motorscooter is a motorcycle with a steptru frame. A moped with a steptru frame, is also called a scooter by the general public.
And yes, no one would be confused if you could see the object in question (with the exception between a motorscooter and a scooter style moped), though if someone has written or told you a story about getting hit by a scooter, you have to guess if they are talking about a motorcycle, a moped or a kickscooter.
So like before, can't we just call it a moped when you need an AM license and a Motorcycle if you need an A1, A2 or A license to operate the machine?
Electric kickscooters don't need a license so far I know, they are not street legal in every country, than again, there are people that wan't to have bicycle drivers licenses issued....
Well done on the pass. More of the two wheeled EV options please. A look at true ownership would be good too, parts availability, actual mileage per charge etc... And finally, just because its an EV doesn't mean it's all good and amazing, some will be poorly made and a pain to run, please keep the balance.

So I actually bought one in December, in my 40 =)
I have lots of past car experience but somehow do not want to buy a car - to much stuff to do.
So passed by CBT, and got silence S01 from green mopeds, they just had one ex-demo.
Just to offset all this covid stuff and be mobile.
Owning moped might cost you more than you might think - helmet, insurance was 800, + month waiting for provisional license.
- it rides very very nice. Real reason I wanted electric moped is silence and no vibrations, smell of petrol etc. That works.
- Another good thing that i only need to charge it once a week, which is really nice feature. Also no reason to worry that it would run out of battery or something. it took me 50% to get from mill hill east to wimbeldon and back.
- I already crossed London, been on a406 and north circular. If you going to go >40 mph windscreen is very useful, I do not have one =)
- really lots of space under the seat. basically all bikes having motors, chains and other stuff under the seat. this has only battery which is sitting quite low.
So far I never switched it to sports or even city mode - eco is enough even for north circular. May be later then I get more XP I will switch to city.
Now small bad things:
- From pictures you would not really understand that battery is quite big and I am always slightly afraid to charge it in flat. Fire safety you know? I constantly want to charge it with charging on street, but that it is not that easy because cable costs.
- worst thing is rear gear. it is a button, and i already hit wall in front of me once, and been close another time. in gloves it is very easy to for your finger to slip and it would go forward, fast!
- speedometer is 10% wrong. very annoying.
- either you have miles on speedometer and Fahrenheit or km/h and Celsius. very annoying.
- no ABS
Overall I am really enjoying it but keep in mind all things above.

Another electric bike well worth a closer look is the super Soco. I think the instructor was riding at one point. It looks fantastic is astonishingly cheap has a removable battery and comes in three flavours up to 62 miles an hour

Once upon a time, it was so easy to understand, a Moped was a vehicle that was vehicle, that was powered by an engine or motor and it had pedals to get it going. That is, you had to pedal from start to get the vehicle going from standstill. Back in the day these Mopeds " Mo Ped" were limited to 50cc in power and 30MPH speed. In the fifties and sixties, very many of these mopeds were popular, eg Raleigh runabout , being one of them, NSU quickly being another. Again, the law may have changed, or not, but with a full car driving licence you could ride one without L plates! Fast forward to today, whether it has an electric motor or petrol motor , if it requires pedals to start it moving for the motor or engine to kick in, its still a "mo- ped" and NOT a scooter.

Reverse gear on a light weight scooter bloddy hell only for the lazy.

@@michaelleiper Not that heavy either my current bike weighs in at 197Kg and I push it arround (and I'm 70 ) with no problems. Like I said if you need a reverse gear/mode you are just being lazy.
Very nice bike. The removable battery for charging is a hell of an idea and looks very well done. With over 500,000 miles under my butt on two wheels on 2 continents and a major island nation, I can say that is a motorcycle that I wouldn't mind owning.
Yes, please do more electric scooters. I would love to buy the BMW CE O4. It is costly and I expect it will be in limited supply so not sure if I will be able to get one of those so I would like to know of other options.

In Madrid they have a rideshare available on an app the smaller sibling the SO2 and it is a joy to go around such a huge city with it. Myself weighting 100KG plus the wife around 80Kg both taller than 6feet and still feels nippy enough to ride with confidence. Definitely a must try if anybody plans to go to Madrid soon
Awesome review. I agree that scooters are especially well suited for electrification lowering the barrier to entry to under $8000. I definitely want to see more become available. :-)

The removable battery is brilliantly done. But is the front tyre on backwards?
Would be lovely to hear fewer hairdryers racing around London... Though often that was the only way I knew someone was riding in my blind spot. Needless to say, I sold my motorbike... London was a bit too scary. Lovely to see you branching out though Jack!
Lovely :) This bike does look very good compared to the competition I would love one. I don't have money atm but if you are looking for a commuter and have the dosh then this looks to be one of the best bang for bucks on the market imo!!!!
I agree with Jack's comments about the throttle control.
Found this criticism true of the Silence (which I test rode at FullyCharged this year) and the SuperSoco TC Max.
I'm keen to try the Brekr Model B and the NIU MQi GT Evo and RQi.
Zero, if by chance you read this... how about offering a smaller/cheaper model please?
Needs bigger, brighter indicators. It’s one of the things I notice when being behind scooters. Otherwise 👍

5kWh capacity? Impressive capacity for that volume!! My C350e only has a 6.3kWh battery pack and it's the size of a small mattress......and probably costs twice what that entire scooter does. The remove-to-charge is genius...does it also allow in-situ charging?? I'm not a biker and never will be now, but that looks great.

Yes, it does! There is a standard 'kettle lead' AC inlet socket under the seat to do just that!

why can't we got one of those 5 kWh removable batteries for cars? People without driveways could get about 15-20 miles of range each day from their home so most of the time they don't have to pay high charging fees.
Silence are already building a two seater car with 2 of those batteries! Watch this space!

More Motorbikes/ Scooters. Yes please.
Learning to ride adds a new perspective to our interactions with the world around us. Rather than sitting in a box watching the world go by, riding makes us active participants. Electric motorcycles increase that engagement by further reducing the distractions inherent in operating a machine.
Very innovative design in regards to the removable battery, solves any hesitancy for charging options. The pre rehearsed anti-Chinese jab, unfortunately was not needed.
More bikes is always good. Stopped riding bike for the third time in my life a few years ago, but they really do have a place in busy cities

Of course, in Spain Silence have set up battery stations in major cities where you just swap your di-charged battery for a fully charged one. this is surely the way to go for electric motorbikes and scooters, but we must have a standardised battery system to achieve this so that say, a Yamaha rider can swap her battery in the same place as a Triumph rider would because they are compatable.
I'd suggest taking a look at the Vmoto Super Soco, which is the best selling (as of Sept 21 figures) 50cc (equivelent) scooter in the UK, out selling any equivalent ICE scooter!
Can't wait to see Jack on the latest Zero motorbike. Probably need a track to experience the top speed but fully charged live in UK will have some pavement.
Love to see more reviews on EV bikes that are available on the roads these days.
Could you investigate the Sondors Metacycle, if it does what it claims, it could be a great commuter for folk that would prefer a bike to a scooter, it looks great and a removable battery too, my too good to be true alarm is twitching though!

Jack a Moped has pedals and motor hence Mo-Ped or at least that they were called when I was a teenager, maybe things have changed 😀
This is straight up a scooter but nothing wrong with that I like just anything on two wheels, bicycles, e-bikes, scooters and motorcycles.
I have more fun riding around on a scooter when I lived in the city.
I could see getting one if I lived in a city and worked from home.
The problem is that a Scooter now implies the sort of thing you stand on (and scoot along with your foot).. we have 3 things and 2 names.

I had a Triang scooter when I was 9 - I'm 61 now - and never, at any time then or since, have I or anyone else been even slightly confused by the difference.

@@keithreeder In Aus, the aged ride mobility scooters, and they are 4-wheeled and top out at about 6 mph. I wish they would call them mobility chairs?

Seems like a really nice scoter. I once had an Chinese electric scooter with preproduction wiring and four 12 V, 34 Ah lead Permobil batteries under the seat, hopelessly unstable dangerous design with at most 30 km range. Still being that crappy, I heard the blackbirds singing though the helmet at full speed. How cool is that? By the way fixing a flat back tire was a project...
Could I also interest you in the concept of "speed bikes" where you get just enough exercise while running around in the city at up to 32 mph or 45 kph. That might even be faster than the moped if you blend in as a regular bike (SPEED) and might use some bikers shortcuts occasionally.
Hi there, please do more on twe-wheel EV's. I'm a biker of too many years and have very recently changed my diesel transport for an MG ZS EV which I love; so would really quite like to swap my Ducati for a e-powered 2 wheeler but don't know much about the market.
I am 68 and have had many bikes over the years, including a few fast sport bikes. My current ride is a Yamaha Bolt 950 because I have toned down of late, but not long ago I had the 1,800 cc 6 cyl Honda Gold Wing (used, of course). My point is - I was invited by Harley to test the Livewire and didn't pass it up, even though it costs 3 times what I have paid for any bike. Well, I went away super impressed. It's an absolute hoot! I was sad that my wife would not entertain the thought of paying that much for a bike, but for those who can part with the cash, this is the bee's knees. I only wish Zero would invite the public to test their models, and others, for that matter, butt Harley has a killer product in the Livewire, for sure. Maybe they will come down in price over time, or some 2nd hand one's start appearing?

I really like silence as a brand, and they are now available in Portugal where I live, with a top box, an so1 would be perfect for a quick nip to the nearest shops (10 km away) and much better range than for example the piaggio I could charge it in my garage. when are you going to review the silence micro car so4
Please tolerate what may seem a silly question, but I am a blind subscriber was this a pedal assisted scooter in New Zealand a mop head is generally thought of as a pedal assisted scooter also where was the luggage storage?

I guess that with the removable battery there is scope to upgrade in the future for better battery technology. This is something I think someone should consider before purchasing or ask silence if that's their plan.
Very similar to my old e-Max 110s scooter. But most look alike I guess. My batteries died in the e-Max due to lack of BMS.
You can use a poloroid filter to get rid of the rainbow effect on the display.
Does this do anything better than Nui? I'd say they are the leaders at the moment and have had removable batteries for some time.

Sunra miku super has just came out in the UK, more an electric Honda Grom size bike which you may look daft on being lanky but little bikes are fun.

Do they sell this in Norway? I ordered the NIU GTS EVO, but rust is a big problem on this brand :(
