I realize this is an old post - Dad grew up on Binghamton's South Side (1940s) and tied what he called a Susquehanna streamer using Herters 183N #1 6x long hook. I have made some myself and have had good luck tying on Mustad 94840 in a variety of colors.

Hello Jayis - thanks for the info yes just about any streamer will work for Susky "eyes" I would love to see a pic of your dads fly that he used.

Yes ken I agree this fly patterns a yellow perch which I think every predator will eat. I like the half hour before and after dark for the eyes here in the susky seems to be the time when there vision is still adjusting to the changing light.

If you use a little less of the bucktail, it will be more effective. You want the fly to swim in the water and not be a big chunk of floating material. Good color combo.

Beautiful fly, live the colors. How do you cast with no lead on the head?

I dont have any fly tying equipment, but would like to get into tying my own flies for walleyes. Do you have any suggestions as to what equipment I would need to tie a fly like you did in the video?

How are you fishing this fly and what depth are you fishing?
leader line is how long standard 9'-10' or like walleye in waist deep with a 15' leader?

Hello Hawaiibo - I typically fish the edge of a current line in the Susquehanna River in about 4-6 feet of water. I use a leader as long as my rod 9' and slow sink striper line. Hope that helps

What depth are these flys fish at. Do you a floating line or sinking line?

Sorry for the late replys I lost my login and it took me a couple of years to get it straightened out. I use slow sink striper line 8wt RIO. Fishing about 4-6 feet of moving water.
