From what I remember from being a kid in the early 2000s is that we're projection TVs were popular for like 2 seconds also I can't believe but they still sell 720p TVs.
When flat screens were first becoming a thing 720p TVs existed but nowadays it's rare to find one especially if it's bigger than like 20 inch.
