Thank you very much for posting this recording of Daniil Shafran.
This it a truy wonderful performance. Sharfan's tone is so rich and deep, enabling him to go right down into the tonal depths and dark passages of this passionate music. And the performance by Jakob Flier on piano is not only technically brilliant, but also fantastically sensitive to the ensemble. They completely understand the music and each other. Wow!
Shafran does an incredible job, but let's not forget about Flier - an amazing pianist!

The quality of this recording is incredible for 1956. Also, the instruments are recorded in a more balanced way than some modern recordings.

Otro video sobre esta interpretación de la sonata para cello de Rachmaninoff. Sonata tanto más bella que aspira a la consonancia. Su fuerza erótica radica ahí en el pronunciamiento y la respuesta sin triunfo ni despojo. Daniil Shafran y Yakov Flier logran lo que la partitura pretende, entrelazar ambos instrumentos para mayor fruición de interpretes y oyentes. Sin sumisión del uno al otro, pares en el son. Buena interpretación, sin que el piano alcance al cello. Lo que da cierto suspense a esa volada sonora, al modo de vencejos que hacen del vuelo un juego sin otra razón que el goce lúdico. Qué mayor fin que el de la vida misma. ¡Brotar en las estrellas!

Very beautiful, but nothing can compare with Horowitz/Rostropovich.
Horowitz is definitely great on that recording, but Slava was never as great as Shafran though..
I agree
Shafran is technically an extremely genial innovator. He sounds mythical with Kabalevsky, great with Rachmaninoff and far less with Schumann and others. Performer’s styles etc “merge” with some composers better than others, but it’s all opinion and taste.
Style is up to taste and differs from every person to another ... what nobody can take away from him is his genuine music-making and the amount of human colors that he brings out in the most beautiful way possible! And he does that in every piece by any composer
Yes. His Schumann sounds odd.
