Things I love about this: 1. The fact that, by sheer coincidence, the human arrived at the exact time that the music sounded normal to humans. 2. The way the DJ, a multidimensional musical being, sounds, at least in the range of sound we can hear, like he has an accent of some sort. 3. The DJ is a multidimensional being who can perceive more than 3 dimensions, more sound& light waves than us, and more knowledgeable than us, is still kind enough to help the human adjust to the craziness of the club. I love the love that Hitchhiker's Guide is getting in this. From the obvious "power of 42!" line to the much less obvious "Suddenly you're standing on an alien planet where cocktails haven't been invented yet" line (Arthur winds up living on a planet that hasn't invented sandwiches yet, so he lives there for decades as a sandwich guru).
I love how the whole song is just al these higher beings accommodating the poor 3d guy so he can enjoy the song of the universe just as much as they do. It's incredibly wholesome and I adore the journey he takes to eventually just enjoying his time at the cha cha

The song implies that at one point across all dimensions and time, all forms of reality. There was a single moment where an old man was able to get a sick solo for 5 seconds that all realities experienced.

Just noticed, the "Carbon copy just like you" isn't a theoretical clone, or someone from an alternate dimension. It's the dancer in the immediate future! These are practically 5th dimensional beings who see in the 4th dimension and also the dimension of time, given one of the dance moves is witnessing your own death, explicitly messing with time tastefully. They knew he was gonna get into the grove, and put it in a nicer way of "You're going to dance anyways" to help him get into the grove! This dance club seems like it's packed with really nice guys, honestly!
Yeah, and I think a great nod to it being the same guy in the future is that nothing is different but the time. In his slice the moon is full and in the other it's a cresent. Little details count. That DJ knows what he's doing...
It's further supported by the fact that the dancer progressively gaining more and more color as he accepts the party and goes with the flow. He starts out in muted neutral colors, but by the time he's just grooving with it, his outfit is more vibrant.

Cosmic Comfort really does fit. The scene with Void especially. The DJ basically says "Ya, The Void consumes everything eventually, but even the Void likes to dance and enjoys fruity cocktails, and gets a little wild now and then." It's the fact the DJ makes the effort to not just open the MC's mind to the universe, but to show there is no real hostility to it. That fact if you Vibe to the Universe, the Universe will Vibe with you that takes it from low-key cosmic horror to the as-named Cosmic Comfort.
'Now you can see what we see; Now that you've been where we be!' I find this portion of the song and video especially uplifting and powerful. Someone else put it in the comments and I saw earlier, but can't find them in the pile now - this is like the opposite of cosmic horror, 'cosmic comfort' basically. An inscrutable eldritch entity whisks you off into their realm, surrounded on all sides by equally impossible and absurd cosmic abominations, completely untethered from the reality you'd known your whole life... ... and then the eldritch being in question hands you a drink and shows you a version of yourself who is having the time of his life busting a move at the very same cosmic dance party you're attending right now, to convince you to loosen up and enjoy the ride.
Fr, it's an incredibly sweet concept that grooves with this whole song so it just feels, like, natural. I like how the human is just bobbing his head and relaxing by the end and the DJ considers this to be a win; it doesn't have to be a huge change, just A change.

1:23 the fact that the lights make the guy clone(?) all golden, like he is at the end when he opened up and started enjoying the party, is such genius foreshadowing omg. One detail I haven't seen people talking about is how, in the begining, the "main character" of the animation is gray. But at 02:19, after he loses his fear of dancing, he becomes yellow, just like his alternate version. Nice touch!

You're only perceiving him that way right here and now because you slid to the left. When you slide back to the right, he'll have turned into something different. The Transcendental Cha Cha Cha will have become in your eyes a Transcendental cookie and the DJ will be the baker whose face is never seen, but whose presence you must infer because the cashier clearly didn't bake this thing.
I love the absolute roller-coaster of emotions he goes through throughout the song. He almost has a heart attack when the carbon copy starts dancing, and he's in such awe of the Mexican guy in the sky at the end.

Some of Tom's more recent songs have had a hard-to-describe "hopeful" effect on me. Like they erase some of my fear and anxiety, reassure me that everything is fine, and then replace that with hope of a better future. I can't think of any other artist that does this quite so potently. He has a unique talent. It's like the polar opposite of cosmic horror.

I can't get this song out of my head. It is silly, absurd, but also subverts the idea of unknowable cosmos and dimensions as not something of a mind-destroying horror, but as a upbeat uplifting source of wonder. It is the Infinite Improbability Drive from the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, but as a Jukebox and no matter how often i've listened to it. It keeps managing to put a extra bit of spring in my step and every frame of the animation is burnt into my head to the point i don't need to watch the video to see it anymore.
This, exactly! And best of all, we START with the protagonist reacting like it's cosmic horror. He's barely clinging to his sanity as incomprehensible creatures accost him from all sides. Then the DJ intervenes to help him loosen up and dance to the rhythm. Metaphorically, it's a story about not being afraid of the unknown, and accepting the absurdity inherent to our existences. Poor old Lovecraft never could've wrapped his head around such notions, as his mind was too tangled in anxiety, trauma, and xenophobia for such ideas to be anything other than frightening.

I'm not sure whether this was fully intentional (but considering Shoocharu's insane attention to detail, it wouldn't surprise me) but the golden record that the DJ holds/throws at 3:13 seems very reminiscent of the Voyager Golden Record, a real record sent into space that contains languages, images, sounds, and *music* from all over the world, as a kind of record of the human experience. It's a super cool project and a reference to it in a song like this is super fitting :) also, this song is incredible. Tom Cardy really knocked it out of the park with this one and Shoocharu's animation style fits it PERFECTLY!

Shoocharu is a fucking blessing in animation form. He has an OUTSTANDING way of animation for both normalized and bombastic animation. One minute could be calm, sweet, serene and the next moment? FUCKING ABYSMAL CHAOS AS THREE HEADS POP OUT OF SOME DUDES SCREAMING MOUTH WHILE HE'S SHITTING OUT A KEYTAR TO PLAY ON FOR A SOLO. Just noticed, the "Carbon copy just like you" isn't a theoretical clone, or someone from an alternate dimension. It's the dancer in the immediate future! These are practically 5th dimensional beings who see in the 4th dimension and also the dimension of time, given one of the dance moves is witnessing your own death, explicitly messing with time tastefully. They knew he was gonna get into the grove, and put it in a nicer way of "You're going to dance anyways" to help him get into the grove!

Wholeheartedly agree. The complexity and detail is just fantastic, so much is packed in but it all works together so harmonioualy, matching the perfect chaos of our reality. Cosmic Comfort really does fit. The scene with Void especially. The DJ basically says "Ya, The Void consumes everything eventually, but even the Void likes to dance and enjoys fruity cocktails, and gets a little wild now and then."
It's the fact the DJ makes the effort to not just open the MC's mind to the universe, but to show there is no real hostility to it. That fact if you Vibe to the Universe, the Universe will Vibe with you that takes it from low-key cosmic horror to the as-named Cosmic Comfort.

An inscrutable eldritch entity whisks you off into their realm, surrounded on all sides by equally impossible and absurd cosmic abominations, completely untethered from the reality you'd known your whole life...
... and then the eldritch being in question hands you a drink and shows you a version of yourself who is having the time of his life busting a move at the very same cosmic dance party you're attending right now, to convince you to loosen up and enjoy the ride.
Fr, it's an incredibly sweet concept that grooves with this whole song so it just feels, like, natural. I like how the human is just bobbing his head and relaxing by the end and the DJ considers this to be a win; it doesn't have to be a huge change, just A change.

I love that about Tom Cardy’s music, it’s always stupid or insane but never negative in its messaging. Like literally, this song is in an eldritch horror dance floor between time and space filled with bloody old gods but the messaging is literally just getting over stage fright. Love it, 10/10
Same! He has several songs that make me think "this is bizarre framing for a really uplifting message", and I love that.

I can't get this song out of my head. It is silly, absurd, but also subverts the idea of unknowable cosmos and dimensions as not something of a mind-destroying horror, but as a upbeat uplifting source of wonder. It is the Infinite Improbability Drive from the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, but as a Jukebox and no matter how often i've listened to it. It keeps managing to put a extra bit of spring in my step and every frame of the animation is burnt into my head to the point i don't need to watch the video to see it anymore.

And best of all, we START with the protagonist reacting like it's cosmic horror. He's barely clinging to his sanity as incomprehensible creatures accost him from all sides. Then the DJ intervenes to help him loosen up and dance to the rhythm.
Metaphorically, it's a story about not being afraid of the unknown, and accepting the absurdity inherent to our existences. Poor old Lovecraft never could've wrapped his head around such notions, as his mind was too tangled in anxiety, trauma, and xenophobia for such ideas to be anything other than frightening.

Ok if you look carefully, you can see that slowly he gets more and more comfortable, but it isn’t until 2:57 that he actually falls in love with the song and it happens when he sees Ricardo. I think it’s Ricardo that finally got him out of his shell. Props to Ricardo.

I love how the human starts out with dull, almost Gray colours. Then as the song goes on he starts being affected by the colours in the room, and then by the 2:21 he's become a brownish/orange colour. Then by the end is overly saturated like the rest of the creatures in the animation! It's such a fun detail

I'm not sure whether this was fully intentional (but considering Shoocharu's insane attention to detail, it wouldn't surprise me) but the golden record that the DJ holds/throws at 3:13 seems very reminiscent of the Voyager Golden Record, a real record sent into space that contains languages, images, sounds, and *music* from all over the world, as a kind of record of the human experience. It's a super cool project and a reference to it in a song like this is super fitting :)
