    That was by far the strangest game I've seen on the channel. But it's also probably the best classic Imperial Guard defensive line i've seen as well. Very fun.

    Either this Tau player aint that good with Tau or Tau were never as op as people whined about

      Landshark pointed out the obvious.
      The Tau kept trying to go for big quick decisive smashes which the guard could weather easily with priests. The guard kept picking apart the Tau while the tau kept trying to pick apart the guard, but since the guard are a faction designed for attrition wars the guard came out on top. The fact that the tau can't make turrets probably didn't help. The Guard also did some magnificent harass in the beginning that gave them an edge.
      If the Tau ended up going for Kauyon to give them longer range and then just spammed FW with skyrays in the back to punish pushes, or relied more heavily on backline stealthsuit harrass (basically sending 3-4 full teams in the backline to take out basilisks and generators, forcing the guard to allocate more resources to defending those) then it could have been a different game...but hindsight is 20-20.
      That said it's a 40+ minute game so I think both players performed pretty well and there's no point complaining.

      Both players in this match are good. Still I think it might be unwise to make a judgement on game balance or player skill based on the outcome of a single game.

      If the Tau had gone Kauyon the outcome could have (probably) been different. Beefier infantry, the krootoxes, hounds and a beefier knarloc could have pulled better pushes while being supported by longer range fws. Crisis suits are cool but require you to jump in deep, something you do not want vs a defensive ig formation. Also with that much energy floating, I would argue drone carriers could have done some good work here as an additional, affordable spam nuisance.

      @@MrRawrCEO its not that difficult. Tau player kept sending in small amounts of units instead of building up a decent force.

    Oh yeah, going in melee with a Crisis suit can be very bad idea. Cause flamethrowers are kinda borked in DoW1. They were supposed to have a cone template ala tabletop, but developers for some reason changed their mind last second and put the range very close. So it functions very curiously - flamethrower hits single target it's targeting. But most of them also have veeeeeeery small cone in front of them that also hits enemies. Cause they never made the cone range value 0. So if you go into melee vs a flamer unit that can't be tied - suddenly its damage will become multiplied, cause you've walked into that unintended cone. Especially for Crisis suit, it has very high DpS for a flamethrower.

      @penileymajorey7174 Mmm... have no idea. Stopped playing and modding long before it was that popular. Changing flamethrowers would require a major overhaul, as you need to tweak damage numbers to compensate for it being able to hit more than one target consistently. List of changes for the mod would have to say it, at least a proper one.
      But yeah, in case you see your melee units suddenly dying very fast while hitting SoB Immolator or something like that - you now know why. There is a super small cone on each flamethrower unit that you can still get hit by if you're too close. Btw, curiously - Hellhound is functioning correctly, as in - it hits the unit and everything around it in AoE. The reason it does so is because in game files it isn't a flame unit. It's an AoE attack that has HP degeneration debuff. As soon as you toggle "is_flamer" option - AoE will be moved to the source of the attack, not the target, by the engine.

    Not sure how easy it is to switch between fog of war view and your casting view, but it might be cool to check in on how far the players can see during some of the engagements. Like when they're retreating, so you could see if they've escaped the field of view, or when a player is pushing into a base where there might or might not be troops waiting for them. That might be a cool touch that adds to the narrative of the match.

    Who would have thought, that sending units to attack in small groups like AI bots in old RTS games would and stubbornly not doing any skyrays would end bad, who would have thought... + Lack of proper targetting important targets (assassin...) and IG had free reign to build up proper snowball to roll over Tau base.

    Oh boy. Was holding on for dear life for half an hour. You didnt notice but assassin was the mvp of this game. Kept killing those crisis battle suits like flies. Gg

    Different camera angles can help sometimes, but these were a bit disorienting

    Does any one could explain why most tau player try to build hammerheads while those units doesn't do some devastating damage or have decent range. With Targeting Optics you could outrange nearly anything IG have and just slowly but surely destroy his base structure one by one.

    I'm not sure why he keeps trying to use the battle suits yes they're strong but your Tau. Stop trying to go into melee your Pathfinders and other ranged options would have been the better go.. even if they're not particularly good at destroying vehicles they do so much damage so reliably that even with the damage penalty they are able to kill light and heavy vehicles on their own in high enough number

    what an interesting RTS here, that early game that moved to a minutes-long confrontation was just fascinating! the slog was honestly not the easiest to track or understand who was winning at any one time after awhile but the game definitely had some fun moments!

    This was a great one. Love these longer matches. I know you have to mix in the shorter matches to serve a broad audience, but for my money I love these long ones. Longer the better imo. I remember you had one eight person FFA that was over an hour or something long. Awesome content.

    That was a great match, great casting as ever mr shark. Goes to show, once that IG firing line is dug in, it can be a monster nut to crack.
