I spent several years piloting a ‘79 C-70 tandem with that engine/trans combo, (shifted 4L to 5L, then back to 4H and then 5H) and truck had air brakes, and a Bostrom air ride seat. Passenger seat was a standard GM bucket seat. Truck had a 24’ bag/bulk feed body on it. It was a Chevy with a Scottsdale trim package. It had AM/FM and factory air. Logged about 150k miles in that rig from new. Loved it.
Drove several C-60 and 65's. The 60 had a 350 truck block with a 4x2 and the 65's had 366's and 5x2. A 65 tandem had a 427 and a 5x4, All good old dumps. The last one was a short 65 with a 427 and a 5x2 but even the owner said it was one that you always felt you never quite had complete control over. It was STRANGE! But the list of the diesels was LONG but it spanned over 50 years. Good video!
@@DrRust They are sweet rides and the 366 handles a legal load fine but you just shift and go on if it's heavy. I think that 427 was a car block. Not much zip and very little torque. Truck blocks had some grunt but this didn't have much at all.
The big truck 427 got crippled in about 74ish they switched heads and intake also compression got lowered the late 60s motors preformed much better my 366 does everything I need it to for now and is dead reliable so I’ve got no complaints
Sorry but it’s not a pickup steering wheel it’s 2x the diameter of a c30 wheel this truck is a top trim Level it might be a trim specific steering wheel
Sir, I think you have a GMC 6500, a C-60 would be a Chevy truck..I have a 1972 GMC 6500, with a 427...5 speed with a 2 speed rear axle, dump truck, has a 30,000 Ib GVWR, a big single axle truck, air brakes.

The chrome grill and bumper were probably part of the package. The ones dad had didn't have chrome.
I think that’s about all the package was just crome
It has the steering wheel from the smaller c20s and c30s. These bigger c60 models usually have the 3 spoke wheel with the silver horn button.

Oh. I thought something looked a little different about this wheel. It does look a lot the ones in the pickups (1973-1980) though.

The shift pattern for a commercial 5 speed was typical in that day. Did these trucks have solid state ignition or still have points back then?

I have a 1955 Chevrolet with a 270 V8. It only does 35 mph. 4x2 but the differential doesn’t shift.
I have a 57 Chevy also they have a vacuum shift 2 speed the lines going to it could be leaking or the diaphragm could be leaking

Your right it’s a 6500 but everyone calls it by the Chevy name
What are those 5 little lights above the fuel gauge at 3:10. I just bought a c60 and it only has the bulbs so i have no clue what any of them mean

on the medium duty dash thats where your idiot lights are. Turn indicators, high beam, low coolant/oil are all up there.
Thanks i couldnt find the manual the coolant bulb is on and i dont know how to turn it off even full of coolant
