The maximum tire width for our HS rim brakes is 2.5". You can find it all on page 13 of the user manual: www.magura.com/media/1729/hs_2016_en_web_03.pdf

They come ready to use, however you may need to bleed them after shortening the tubing. In general, you always want to check if the brake is working properly, among other things by checking the bite point. Unless there's an underlying issue with the brake system, a bite point that is too soft, inconsistent, or not there at all generally indicates that air is in the system and that the brake needs to be bled. Is it just me, or is there no way to adjust the angle of the cylinders when using the "adjusting lever" (the plastic thingy where you can screw the cylinders closer to/further from the rim)? I find that my pads wear very uneven (top before bottom) and therefore rather quickly. I have 4mm left on top when bottom is at 1mm.
This adjustment only dictates the distance to the rim, not the angle. Depending on whether you have an HS brake with an EVO2 or EasyMount, you have different ranges of adjustments in regards to pad position compared to the rim. The EVO2 mount also allows the adjustment of the angle of the brake cylinder, while the EasyMount only provides a distance adjustment with the adjusting lever you've described. Since your pad wear seems to be very uneven, we would recommend to first of all check if everything has been tightened correctly. If something is loose, the cylinders could be dragged into a position where the pads wear unevenly. Secondly, please check whether your pads (while standing still) are parallel to the rim or not. If they're not, you could consider retrofitting an EVO2 mount which would give you the ability to adjust the angle as well.
I have these in my bike and I'm looking for replacement. Horrible design, extremely finicky and difficult to adjust property. Take a disc brake any day.

The tires on the se big ripper are within the specs, but that 2nd bracket will rub when installed
