I would not be surprised if he got ROY, DPOY, all star, and 1 or 2 mvp votes this season.... the NBA and media is trying to make him the next face of the league after steph and lebron retire.
Hmm... he could get some All-Defense team consideration (maybe 2nd team), but I'd be surprised to see him get DPOY. As much as a defensive disruptor as he already is, he has so much to learn to maximize his potential.
@@mateuszzdyb3547 I agree.. The NBA tried with Ja but we saw how that turned out.... It will be sad when Steph, LBJ, KD and other American stars retire.
Wemby is surely a one of one man. As for the Suns, Windy is right, an Ayton, even with the chemistry issues with the organization, would have been much more valuable than a defensive liability in Nurkic, and Suns are rlly being picked on in the interior even by a skinny unexperienced Wembanyama.
@bigdripbobz1072 Don’t let his “skinny 7”4 frame” fool you he’s a 7”4 Kevin Durant with the skill set of a guard/wing. Ayton would definitely have don’t a better job defensively but that’s on the Suns GM for trading him not Wemby talent.
@@mikestone8756 no worries I'm not fooled by his frame im one of the most earliest watchers of him since age 15 ik what hes capable of than any other fan. But I'm just saying wemby has played often unaggressive at least to start his career and doesn't strike "interior offensive domination" to at least half the league ( to my estimation on how well other teams can play defense right now with great movement and agility, e.g., grizzlies, nuggets, lakers) . However clearly suns are a team that he strikes in that "interior domination" area thru watching the last two games, which is a big concern to see for the suns part considering they surely should be trying to be in championship contention right now. Nurkic need to man up and at least be avg, not look bottom tier defensively getting pounded by skinny frames when he is that massive himself.
@@mikestone8756 it just seemed wemby was hounding them in the interior whereas for the other three teams the spurs faced this season (clips, mavs, rockets), they were able to control him in the paint area at least sometime during the game to prevent crazy wemby solo runs of domination. Suns have been an atrocity and wemby cooked them like BBQ chicken
I don’t agree because on offense he’s been mainly playing on the perimeter and taking advantage of smaller players on him. I’m not sure Ayton is going to have an easier time going around screens than Nurkic enough to stop him.
It’s not as much of a stretch as you might think. All-NBA might be tougher but with what he’s shown us in game #5 the odds aren’t as bad as you might think.
Wemby is a player we haven’t had for some time. Seeing previous players similar to his body size and type usually were centers. Now you see Wemby with a more versatile skill set is amazing. He is almost like a cheat code. Under the rim, he doesn’t even need to get on his toes to dunk the ball.
Wemby's block numbers would be much higher *if* players actually dared to test him in the paint, but they're - rightfully - doing anything to avoid that.
Exactly. The stats really don't show how good he is defensively. Players won't challenge him in the paint. He cuts the floor in half because he's so long. Players avoid him on the offensive end and shoot the ball too early, pass out of open shots, and just make decisions because of Wemby.
@@gabrielcarrasco9078totally agree. They have quadruple thoughts to try him 😂😂 Those roooks or rotation players would probably test him coz they have nothing to lose but a lot to gain - reputation 😂
At first I wasnt believing the hype, BUT wemby showed us the future of NBA especially when he was up against KD. Two important things: Wemby can shoot. It would be developed through the years. Wemby is a defensive machine. He usually stays at POS4 and help a closeout in the 3 when necessary.
I love what I’m seeing from the kid! I was skeptical about if he’d be physical but he throws his body around a lot! He is gonna make the NBA have to actually play defense and harder! I love seeing it and the kinda change this kid CAN make for the NBA!
For those who watched him play in the french league last season (I did), this dude is not scared to be clutch, to be the main man on a team. He's got a mind set that will make him great. Here in France, we all cross fingers he's not gonna get injured 'cause if he's not, he's gonna be scary when he reaches 23-24. This is a guy who knows where he wants to be. He wanna be great. I think he's put the league on notice. Allez Victor !! On y croit !!

After they beat PHX the first game this week and KD bring his favorite player, it clicked for him that he could do it. He and LBJ are like chosen ones in hoop. The thing I like about Victor is that he is actually all about basketball. You can tell he wants to be great. Unlike other players like Ben Simmons, lamelo, those people are just in it for the fame and money. Also known as losing players, the organization will never win with those kinda of players

And be this entertained. This young team is fun to watch. They make some dumb mistakes from time to time but they try to move the ball and they defend. The Spurs were one of the worst teams last season and now they are 3-2 in their first 5 games. Wemby is a franchise altering player without a doubt at 19! He is going to improve and get stronger each year. His upside is a complete mystery because he is so unique. I'm watching every Spurs game this season.
Idk. Him vs Chet will be something going forward and as impressive as this was, the Suns are kinda the team you expect him to drop 38 against. Don’t get me wrong I still expected the Suns to win so that’s impressive too, but I expected the suns to win 150-140 or something. If they can create the right mismatch, he’s going for 30+ every night. We might be looking at the next Wilt.
I think if he bulks up and stays flexible the sky's the limit for this kid. Right now 19 there's nothing to stop him. I just hope he doesn't sustain any real injury because he could possibly be another Greg Oden but I hope not the kid is good to watch
No need to bulk much. More weight is more stress on his joints and ligaments. He already doesn't need to overpower anyone to become an all time great. I think it's better for him to sacrifice a little dominance for longevity.
His team is totally against added weight/muscle they want to keep his body as natural as possible and let grow into it , his workout was nothing but light weights , core strength , and a lot like stretching type exercises I was in shocked but they have been treating him like a specimen with extra care
@@vlisto3712I don’t think anyone wants him to bulk up like crazy. I think most people would just like to see him get to the size of Giannis which wouldn’t be too bulky just more muscle and strength.

The Spurs had a 20pt lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, then Pop sat Wemby out the first 6 minutes of the 4th & the Suns came back & took the lead. When Wemby got back in, he just took over & they beat the Suns by 11pts, he's a major difference maker. He's clutch too. In a game with Booker & KD, it's crazy that Wemby was the best player in that game last night, & KD Booker both played great too. If he continues playing this way, he'll probably be an Allstar. I think if anything, he just needs to put on some muscle & get more sturdy, he still looks very flimsy on the court, it's like watching Shawn Bradley dominate lol. Also, as the TNT crew kept saying the other night, he needs to set his screens harder. I'm excited to watch this kid's career though, just hope he doesn't get any serious injuries.

The only reason he doesn’t get the same level of hype as Lebron James when he entered the league is he’s French. Otherwise I truly believe his talent deserves it. His game is truly transcendent. Forget about muscle strength.. he’s like the guy on Fantastic 4 with that reach. Literally nobody can do, or has ever done many of the things he is doing in these games.
Victor Wembanyama will win Rookie of the Year, and also Defensive Player of the Year no doubt. If he can put up numbers like Luka Donkic, he will be MVP this season. But I am not sure he can play like this every game at this point. He is still learning and growing. But I don’t see another power forward better than him at this point beside Giannis. First Team All NBA maybe? He will absolutely be an NBA All Star his rookie year.
What a game though. Keep it up Big Vic! Go Spurs Go! It’s a good time to be from San Antonio. We are so grateful and blessed by this young talent. And what a class act he is also. Such a bright and intelligent young man.
He ain't breaking Giannis' consecutive unanimous 1st team all nba streak at PF this year. Isn't he a center anyways
Mvp?? Lol you sound star struck he gone be good but it’s 5 games in and tbh he ain’t been dominating on boards like he pose to with his height but def a star in the making

Wemby is legit and is worth the hype but more than that... he has all the media behind him and they are riding him hard.... I would not be surprised if he got ROY, DPOY, all star, and 1 or 2 mvp votes this season.... the NBA and media is trying to make him the next face of the league after steph and lebron retire.
exactly. it will be him, no debate
there is no other legit candidate, even if nba would love to have an American as a poster child.
@joceja23Luka has no passion for the game, wemby does. Anybody who watches nba hardcore can see that
Hmm... he could get some All-Defense team consideration (maybe 2nd team), but I'd be surprised to see him get DPOY.

Dude I was the last guy off the Ayton train and Ayton wouldn’t have done SHIT in this game

Exactly. The stats really don't show how good he is defensively. Players won't challenge him in the paint. He cuts the floor in half because he's so long. Players avoid him on the offensive end and shoot the ball too early, pass out of open shots, and just make decisions because of Wemby.

Wemby is the most impressive 19-year-old since LeBron.

People need to stop trying to compare him to Bol Bol, he's on a whole 'nother level, that's disrespect to him & I think he took it personally last night. This kid is legit. I actually thought Scoot was going to be the one starting off strong, while Wemby struggles the first month or so, but I was dead wrong, it's the other way around lol.

We have to see how far he will go in his career but as of now, he is arguably the best rookie since Lebron James. Other great players like KD, Luka, Giannis or Steph needed time to be great but this kid has been amazing from the get-go.
I predict that Wemby will have a quadruple double game at some point in his career
Great Show , Wembanyama is showing how good he is going to be with these rules today, and a man with this talented where you can't touch him, already scoring at ease. There is no way to defend him. It's like Wilt Chamberlain coming to the league in the 1950s ( there was no stopping him back then) This was just his skill set.and what i saw last night this young man won't be able to be stopped in 2 years or less or by the end of this year bearing injuries.
