This is the first time I’ve watched college football. I do have to say, it’s WAY more entertaining than the NFL, and I’m so glad this game was the first one I watched. Was rooting for BYU the entire game, I think y’all gained a new fan 🔥

The fact that after the game the BYU quarterback sought out the kicker and hugged him shows why BYU won this game. They’re a team. They support each other through highs and lows. They play hard and play to win, not for themselves, but for their team.

A hard-fought slugfest! Some great pass receptions and too many run up the gut into large defensive linemen. Impressed with BYU's defense and stamina through multiple endings. The crowd was in the Baylor helmets and did their home team best. JHall kept his head and kept team together. Needs to add some eye fakes, pitch fakes, pump fakes to his repertoire. (I need a throat lozenge.)
This game shows BYU worked hard to improve their game and it shows. Defense is better. Baylor makes playing football effortless. Now they have to beat Boise. Keep up the good works Cougs.
I was gonna say the same thing but the replacements were certainly above average receivers so I am not sure how much of a difference it would have made. unless the regular starters are faster. it seems the 2 receivers playing had a hard time ever getting open.
The hug shown at the end of the game was between the QB -- Hall and the kicker who had missed twice. Such a show of leadership. The team has the kicker's back, regardless.
By the way at the end that was the QB hugging the kicker! Great teams throughout history have shown brotherly love. That was really neat that Hall when he could have been celebrating with others took the time to comfort the kicker.
As a Duck fan.....I wish BYU were moving to the old pac12 instead of he big 12....pac needs a couple more GOODTEAMS to fill out our league and the BYU/ UTAH rivalry could be kept in-house
Yeah, we wished that had happened when they took Utah. But the PAC-12 commissioner at the time felt that Utah was enough to corner the Utah TV market, and that was all they wanted. It was a poorly thought out move at the time, and it hasn’t gotten better since.
The PAC12 was never going to take a conservative, religious school like BYU. It would have made better sense geographically than taking Colorado, and the ADs were in favor of it, but it's the university presidents who decide, and there was no way they would allow it.
To be clear, the university hasn't come close to saying she lied. They just said their investigation came up empty and they apologized to the fan that was originally singled out

I had a lot of fun watching this and pretending that I understood what was going on. My daughter goes to byu and my son goes to Baylor, so I was cheering for both teams lol. My daughter is a senior though so I'm glad byu won this time.
If BYU runs the table, it might be difficult to keep them out of the playoff, with wins over Baylor, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Arkansas. And Baylor's quarterback ... yeah, not so good.
Baylor doesn't have a quarterback. They have to hope Notre Dame and Oregon have a winning record before they play them or a winning season. They don't look so good. Arkansas may give BYU trouble.

I guess I just don't understand the "surprise" with this outcome. Baylor lost almost all of its production from last year ( QB, WR #1, WR #2, RB #1, RB #2 ) and lost 4 of its top 5 defensive players from last year. I certainly would not have called it an upset. It's not like Baylor is a powerhouse program that has backups that are starter level quality and they just step in with no drop off.

It's early season rankings. Just ignore them. BYU was definitely under ranked. Baylor might've been a bit high. Everyone who was familiar with the two teams said it'd be a slugfest with a close score. And it was.
Baylor was extremely one dimensional. Running the ball as much as they did made it easy for BYU to key in on them. Coach Grimes needs to be more creative. Horrible offensive play calling.
We were yelling at BYUs offensive play calling the whole game too, and I turned to my friend at some point and said, you know what? I bet Baylor fans are just as mad at their coach right now. Fun game, sorry it didn't go your way, know how that feels... :( Best of luck next week! Baylor's great!

Boy, this was a very strange game. Most of the calls were very weird calls, defensive chop blocks, defensive holding... The thing that pissed me off is how many times BYU was called for the chop block, but Baylor was doing it all night also. One of the best examples of this was the trick play TD at 6:50... Of course, BYU scored, but where is the flag? All in all, a great game for BYU. I hope they get back into the film room and figure out what Baylor was able to do that killed BYU's run game, and make adjustments. Every other team on their schedule just took note, and BYU can't rely on passing this season to get them the wins.
If you watch the first 3 quarters, he was on the money, every throw. Both defenses played lights out, so it's not like he had big windows. Baylor's OC just went all-run in the 4th, so by the time OT rolled around it felt like Shapen hadn't thrown a pass since the 80s. He was out of rhythm... Plus everyone was covered.
That kicker scored ~33% of our points in order to get us to overtime. He's also been clutch in a ton of games... last night was really bad, but we'll give him time to redeem himself.
I think the rest of the season will show they're still legit. They might not win their conference this year, but they'll be in competition for it. They played a great game and locked our offense down for most of the night. But they had a lot of miscues, many of which could be contributed to an incredibly loud hostile stadium.
With special teams it’s all about who you know and what private coach with good connections can vouch for you, I seen jucco guys look better than anyone you will watch on Saturdays but they don’t have all the connections

It was a great win, little concerned about the many 3 and outs and they will need to fix that especially when they meet Arkansas later in the year. There is a really good chance to prove a lot of the critics wrong if they can beat Arkansas and USC. A reliable kicker will win many last second games..
No one knows how good any team is until about week 5 or 6. I don't know why anyone pays attention to rankings until that point. These could be two top 10 teams going at it or they could both be top 20 or top 40. Hard to tell. I will say this: it was a hard-fought, entertaining game. I was impress with both D's and how well both sides took care of the ball: no turnovers.
Not nearly as bad as Texas Tech rushing the field after beating Houston.... But generally I do think field storming should be reserved for truly huge wins.

As a college student at Baylor this broke my soul to watch at the end. Nonetheless it was one of the most entertaining games I have ever witnessed.

Jake Oldroyd's historical play has been really good. It was an off night for him and I expect great things from him in the future.

Jake Oldroyd has been a remarkably consistent kicker in the past and just had a bad night. We love Jake.

Overrated AF. Baylor was never the #9 team.
No one knows how good any team is until about week 5 or 6. I don't know why anyone pays attention to rankings until that point. These could be two top 10 teams going at it or they could both be top 20 or top 40. Hard to tell. I will say this: it was a hard-fought, entertaining game. I was impress with both D's and how well both sides took care of the ball: no turnovers.

Preseason rankings purely exist to make early season games more marketable.
