    Thanks for the review, Laurence! My reasons for going with Sport over Pro was the form factor. I wanted a compact setup and felt the power of the Sport was already more than sufficient and difference between the two was barely noticable. The biggest deterrent to the Pro for me, which was not mentioned in this review, was that the Pro has a clunky 2 power supply setup. We all have to deal with a lot of cables and power supplies already! The Sport is far more elegant.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're very welcome! The form factor is nice, although it's not a HUGE amount smaller either. I did mention the 2 power supply thing in this video, and the revision 2 Pro now comes with one power supply, which is also mentioned ;)

    the pinout for the accessory port is available on their website, and yes, the SC2 does support analog pedals, you just kinda hafta make them yourself, or wire them in yourself.. with 5 volt output, grounds, and sensor input. it is why simcoach pedals are able to be wired via the wheelbase.

  • @CYMotorsport

    3:40 counter point: not all Nm are made equal. I’ve never tested those exact models so I’d love get your informed opinion on this.
    Mathematically, your example has the Fanatec with a bigger jump though it doesn’t seem like at first glance. It equates to 60% vs a 47% jump for the Simu for 70 fewer euros. So technically the Fanatec is more but you can’t charge a premium for a 17 nm wheel and ask for “an even more perfect” experience to go to 25 haha
    In my experience, there does come a diminishing return. Getting beyond a certain level does get harder and harder to distinguish. I’ve used a Leo and it starts to get to a level where 26 I couldn’t tell you the difference in 23. It’s all great there haha. But if I had to guess, their marketing team knows the jump from 5 to 8 separates the casual and promotes you to a track that leads ultimately to podium DD2. I doubt they are pricing anyone out considering that leap , if that makes sense. Thoughts? Can you actually FEEL the nm change?

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes good points. I can feel it because I’m used to these devices but a blind test could prove that I don’t, that’s how close they can be with the right settings. I agree with what you’re saying. I do think that the pro is better though. It’s ability to transmit a microscopic piece of hard feedback like hooking a kerb or regaining grip is just really pleasant. The sport is not far behind.

    • @CYMotorsport
      @CYMotorsport 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LaurenceDusoswa basically if you can’t feel the difference, it ain’t for you haha I hear you. That makes a lot of sense actually. I’m thinking like a marketer, you’re thinking like a driver. I suppose if you’re gonna go for it, you go all the way. I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on a tester or I’ll have to make an extra video or two haha But it sounds like a good time. Good video sir!

    Nice review LD!! I still think it should have the connections between the wheel and the base integrated in the quick release system (which has to be rethink because it lacks in terms of simplicity). If Simucube correct these issues, then I think the SC3 will be PERFECT.

    • @_xndrzt
      @_xndrzt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't agree. one of the strong points of Granite motors is the fact that it doesn't rely on a proprietary base-wheel connection. you can literally use any wheel on the market, put on a qr and you are ready to go, which is a big difference from Fanatec on which, if you want to use an aftermarket wheel, you need to buy the podium hub for an extra 200euro. SC2 ffb always works, it doesn't need to "connect" to the wheel. it is also true for whireless wheels, sure you can't use the wheel buttons but ffb always works, it is indipendent from the wheel. so no, I don't think it will be a good idea.

    • @midnight_driver71
      @midnight_driver71 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@_xndrzt I understand your opinion but I was talking of a D1 Spec QR which should be, at least for me, the industry standard as it is so good and cheap. Some brands like Simagic or Moza Racing are now using this QR. They are just adding some pins for the electronic connection between the wheel base and the wheel itself. These customised versions of the D1 Spec QR are available on their resellers websites for a lot cheaper asking price than the Fanatec QR (from 70 to 80 €). And yes, I definitly think the Fanatec's QR system is overpriced. It's a much less good QR system compared to the D1 Spec QR.

    Maybe another tiny decision helper: I own the SC2 Pro - and every time I use it there's that "Simucube Grin" on my face.
    Plus: I found that I never use any power settings above 49 % with any racing simulation, resulting in a bit more than 12 NM of torque. So I never exceed that power range the Sport version easily offers. - Except in situations when a big-mouth visitor asks for (and regrets) it. :D
    Thus I can just second and underline what Laurence already said.

    Great review as always. One point to add though, the Pro has a faster slew rate over the Sport as well as the extra power. Totally accept that this may not make a huge real world use difference but I assume this is the subtle difference you mentioned between the two in the detail of feedback and not actually the effect of more power.
    I swapped from DD1 to SC2 Pro and it was one of the best things I have done. Same as you mentioned though in that I bought the Pro for what was on the face of a small price increase and when not being able to try both it seemed a safer decision to avoid buyers remorse later.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I'm aware of the far greater slew rate. I try not to bore people with technical details in these reviews as it can be very off-putting. It's definitely the main factor in the SC2 Pro having more potential.
      Your latter point is also on the money. Buying the Pro is easy to justify.

      100% on your reviews not getting bogged down in the mostly pointless details. Seeing the item being reviewed, unboxed or disassembled adds very little for the average user who just wants the details to help them make a decision on purchasing.

I have two previous surgeries on my right hand and thumb from an unrelated incident so I don't want to risk injuring it again. • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Of course. I don’t want to bore people with specs that mean very little though. I’m practical terms, and having used both for extensive periods, the difference is tiny. The slew rate is great for sure with the pro but in practical terms, does that make it more realistic? I’m not convinced. The pro is great for definite and if you have doubts, get it. Love my SC2 Sport. I think now that you can get the Pro with one power brick I would probably would have got that but at the time it came with 2 power bricks. But in saying that I have had no issue with the Sport and it has more than enough power. I would be interested to see if the Pro has a bit more track detail come through.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The pro allows for details to be transmitted more aggressively. However, cars have tyres, suspension parts, steering parts, etc, which all absorb or dampen some of the road forces anyways. The Sport has enough power to simulate great road feel accurately and realistically. The Pro has the ability to further exaggerate the feel of the road to the point that you feel more than you would in a real car.

    How is it versus alpha n alpha mini

      It has better force feedback than the Simagic alpha but the latest Simagic firmware brings it really close again. The deciding factor for me is the wheel rims and quick release so I choose the alpha

      @@LaurenceDusoswa I´m very close to get a SC2 Sport with a very very nice price with a steering wheel included. Before I was thinking about to get the Alpha Mini but this chance made me go for the Sport. Anyway I find interesting how Simagic team is improving their software and I´d love to know if some of the lacks are getting solved. Cheers ;)

      Hi Laurence
      Anymore thoughts on this question?
      If you had the option in todays market, would uou pick the Alpha 15nm or the Sport 17nm?

    That QR looks terible.

      It’s bulletproof and super functional. But it lacks any fun or reward. It’s purely utilitarian

      sorry for the super late reply! I have seen it in some wheelbases and it's usually a settings or firmware issue
