That scraper is beautiful. Repurposing old tools by using your own resources, skills and imagination in your own shop is an all American tradition to me. I can't imagine using that beautiful scraper it to scrape off old dirty gaskets from car parts, but it has lots of uses and is a wonderful heirloom type tool. The angle guide looks like the perfect tool for a project like this in order to get an accurate and consistent angle. Great job as usual.
You are really talented on that lathe. Beautiful, beautiful work. Of course, the scraper wouldn't have come together nearly as well if it wasn't for Mrs. Magdad. Haha!
A beautiful scraper that anyone would be proud to own. I love watching your lathe footage that clearly demonstrates your confidence with your tools, skills and limitations. Great work Mr Magdad.
Another Nice Job Magdad ! With An Assist From Mrs. Magdad. You Know You Could Make Many Projects With That Lathe. Toy Spinning Tops , Standard and Slip Bobbers , Fishing Lures , etc.
No offense Scout Crafter, however yours looks like a scraper from a dollar store. MagDad yours looks like a tool from a fine woodworking store. Absolutely beautiful. You’re the only guy on YT that can make a tool look like a piece of art.
I saw Scout Crafters video and thought it was a great Idea. I actually made one this afternoon from an old 7/8" bit and an old screwdriver handle. I think my turned out ok and will come in very handy. Yours is very nice, great job!
Great video. Learned a lot. When you used the calipers to check your farrow diameter with the farrow on other side, was the 1st time I had seen that technique used. Nice job!❤😊
That came out great! I think I've seen one too many of your videos. I'm loving that Bombay Mahogany. I'm going to have to get some and find a handle or two.
WOW you went out of your way on this video Super nice job on the Scraper using the mini lathe new wood Stain using Mrs Magdad and Mr Chuck in the Sho .. Again great Sunday Video Bye Chance did you feel the big Quake the other day ???? enjoy the Eclipse for Monday afternoon
Great idea!!! I would have just used one of the removable shank screwdrivers Klein has one with the quick connect. I'm definitely going to try this project thanks
Lovely job there. The brass and tha9t Bombay mahogany stain are a match made in aesthetic heaven. I have those conditioning belts but can only use the brown one as fir some reason my sander won't turn with them on. I think they catch a bolt. Great video and well done Chuck on an excellent polishing job.
Great work, it really turned out beautifully. On the Wood by Wright channel he demonstrates how you can use a wedding ring or other on the shaft of the drill bit to make sure your running level, just in case Mrs Magdad isn’t available next time.
Well what do ya know, another project that "turned" out great! Does the chuck come off the Lathe easy enough? Maybe you could add a heavy steel disk between the housing and the chuck, or on the other end of the spindle shaft to function as a flywheel? That should help the lath run more smoothly and not lose speed so easily when you are turning a work piece with a bit larger diameter. Maybe even a larger drill chuck would help if you can find one with the same thread? I have had this thought before, but I don't remember if I actually suggested it before. If I have, sorry. I don't mean to sound like a broken record. I am just getting too old to remember what I do with all my thoughts!
@@357magdad I have seen enough of your basement to know that you have room for a nice old Craftsman wood lathe. My father in-law has a nice older one all set up nice, but he has not used it in at least 20 years. I tried to convince him to go out and make some chips so he can get excited to use it again, but to no avail. ☹️
Nice job! Just fyi, if you can find a Jacobs chuck with the correct Morse taper for your lathe you use it drill accurately into the handle while it's still in the lathe.
Boy you cant beat that Bombay Mahogany, wood, brass & steel! The angle guide is pretty slick. Is that an aftermarket or factory ad on? It dawned on me the old spade bits would make nice screw driver blanks too.
As always, I enjoyed the video. Love the Bombay Mohagony color too. Had to search a little, but I found it at a local Lowes. Now I'll have to search for a new product. Lol. It's probably from the Big Orange.
I included an Amazon link in the description. Make sure you watch my mini lathe bit driver handle video to see the improvements I've made to mine. I included a link at the end of the video.
Gonna be getting me one of the angle guides for my 1x30. Never seen them before. Better than my current set up for sure and ah yes… the Bombay mahogany, love that stain. Just looks deep and warm. Might have been the camera, but the new stain looked different somehow. What do you think of the new brand? Turned out great though, nice job. Thanks.
I included an Amazon link for the angle guide in the description. The water based Behr Bombay Mahogany dries way quicker than the Minwax making multiple coats a lot easier,
Beautiful! But isn't this tool now actually a wood chisel? It looks like the razor sharp chisels master wood carvers hold in their fingers to slice off the tiniest sliver of wood to make a perfect edge. It's too beautiful to just be a scraper!
I see that you are using that small lathe; I have seen that and was thinking of getting it as my first lathe; what is your opinion? Is it worth it for a beginner?
If you have the room and the money I suggest getting a "real" lathe. There are a lot of good midi lathes under $600. I think my tiny lathe would frustrate a beginner. I had to make modifications and replace the tools to get good results.

You may get more use of the spade bit as a scraper than a drill bit.
