Hailstorm Chase | Large Hail, Lightning, and Loud Thunder | October 6th 2024

This was actually forecast multiple days out, there being storms in the area. Around 5 days ago, maybe more, we started to get hints that there would be thunderstorms on this day.
A day or 2 later, it became even more likely and the SPC put a highlighted risk area over the Ohio Valley into areas of western NY, marginal, with the future slight risk being pushed further south and west into the far southern tier, PA, and Ohio, but within a day, the slight risk got pushed up into our area.
The day of the storms, the 6th, when the system was moving into our area, it looked like nothing would form at first, but then later into the afternoon, storm initiation started taking place as expected, and storms first exploded in Ohio, then more in the southern tier, then more an hour or 2 later in the southtowns and northtowns. All storms generally moved east or north-east. We caught the southern tier storms just outside of Springville on the 219 which was made into a short, but then the Ohio storms were speeding our way too, so we took the very-close-by exit and waited in Springville, thinking we'd have to go a little further south, but we ended up not having to. While we were in the gas station, the storms all the way from Ohio were already here, and started dumping hail anywhere from an inch to an inch and a half.
If this happens to be out last severe weather event, or just thunderstorm of the year, what a way to finish off a great storm year.
