From all I've read, he was a wonderful and kind man, had a great sense of humor, and truly enjoyed life. He will always and forever be Prof. Snape, no one will fill those shoes.
He had a sort of speech impediment that people in the industry came down on him for early in his career. He worked hard to get around the impediment so his articulation would be better understood. This process gave him one of the most mesmerizing voices and diction we've ever heard. Brilliant actor❤❤❤
I know it’s so soothing I so wish he would’ve done guided meditations or something but through the power of TH-cam and AI we have lots and lots of his voice in general to listen to. Tbh his voice is so calming it helps me sleep
With that voice and talent i wish he had done more Shakespeare. Had they been contemporaries, he would have blown Lawrence Olivier clean off the stage.

When Harry tried to use Snape's Sectumsempra spell against him in the HBP film, and Snape said "You dare use my own spells against me? Yes, I'm the Half-Blood Prince", he didn't raise his voice, but lowered it. That to me was more spine-chilling than if he'd shouted those words at Harry.
Long before the movies, when I read Harry Potter, I imagined Snape just as Alan Rickman would play him. Those descriptions just suited Alan's style of talking and I knew he could play Snape.

Due to Rickman’s age and Rowling really wanting him in the role, they made it so that in the canon of the films, the Marauders generation were all 10 years older than they were in the books. This is evidenced by James & Lily’s tombstone. But I understand that it detracts from the tragedy of the situation with them dying so young if they are made older and I imagine that might be why you’re so upset about the change.
Snake was never mean. Just totally focused on protecting HP. Most of that was meant to protect him from others and at times it was from himself, as kids do not always make the wisest choices. Snape always had the big picture in mind and sometimes that meant making what seemed to be an unkind choice for HP et al. He also never wanted HP to know that he actually loved him as he had loved Lily. “Always!” Is the most profound statement in all of the books.

Moreover, we discover as readers many things that subtlety change our opinion on him. First we think he is an asshole to Harry for no reason, but then we learn that Harry’s dad relentlessly bullied Snape and “stole” the love of his life, and that Snape sees James Potter in Harry. While being vindictive to Harry isn’t warranted, it is *human*. Snape is not a paragon of morality, but at the end of the day he is a good person. He sacrifices his life for the greater good and he kills Dumbledore to spare Draco’s innocence. His valiant actions are made somewhat more meaningful by the fact that he isn’t guaranteed to do the right thing. When Harry does “the right thing” it’s because he’s Harry Potter and he always does the right thing. When Snape does the right thing, it reveals more about his character and underlying motivations (such as saving Harry out of his love to Lily, his mother. Sorry that this post was a big long winded and I was not the original poster so they may have different reasons, but those are the things I liked about Snape as a character and think make him a candidate for “best character” despite not being the most “likeable” character.

Also, he had jet black hair, which usually is very shiny. For a child of 11, it may have appeared greasy. Snape was too meticulous and a perfectionist to have dirty clothes or hair.

My scalp is oily and sensitive, so if I fiddle with my hair too much in the process of styling it (or when the hairdresser does) it will look greasy about 45min after it's dried... maybe what Snape really needed was dry shampoo all along

Snape was the deepest, most complex character in the series. He was well designed to be loathed by all, only to find he held the most sincerest intentions of all. I would have loved to see more insight from Harry’s character on his feelings towards Snape after everything about Snape was revealed. But he named he second partially after him, which also says enough.
What an amazing actor. His work will live on forever… He played Snape so well… I would have LOVED for him to come back & take on the role as Dumbledore in the reboot.

Snape was the deepest, most complex character in the series. He was well designed to be loathed by all, only to find he held the most sincerest intentions of all. I would have loved to see more insight from Harry’s character on his feelings towards Snape after everything about Snape was revealed. But he named he second partially after him, which also says enough.

It proves how good of an actor he was when you see clips of him like this just being a sweety pie old man with a smile to brighten anyone’s day, and then you see him playing someone as harsh, snide and mean as Severus Snape 😮😦
