THE KING IS BACK! As always, excellent content Emil. Hope you had a nice trip back home. It's been a while since I've commented on your videos, life has been shitty and busy. As always, 100% correct here. Even if you're not going to do the Golden Route (Tokyo-Mt. Fuji-Kyoto-Osaka), if you're in a big city odds are folks will speak some English. Hiroshima, Fukuoka and even Yufuin (pop. 11,000) were no problems for my Japanese language adverse husband. We're booked again for May, but this time we're going to Kinosaki Onsen. Have you been? If so, any thoughts? I've got to make it down to Okayama in a future trip. Anyway, I'm so proud to be a Patreon now! Hey you! Join me and support this channel!
Thank you so much for watching and supporting the channel! Understandably life gets in the way sometimes, but it all evens out eventually! Never been to Kinosaki Onsen, but Hyogo is a beautiful prefecture! Not too far away from Tottori with Japan's only desert (and camels)! Most people spend only a day in Okayama as it is used to switch shinkansens to go further west toward Kyushu, but I will definitely recommend Kurashiki and the old city for any visitor to Okayama!
おかえり!That beard got some Norwegian viking power up. Edit: I decided to write this with the first frame of the video paused... to realize you said the EXACT SAME THING 5 seconds later.
It’s a good idea to learn the pleasantries-Konichiwa, Ohio gozaimasu, arigato gozaimasu, sumimasen,. Here’s the phrase I used the most-Kore o Kudasai (this please). If you’re travelling to Japan for holiday you only need a handful of phrases. Here’s a tip for selecting restaurants in Japan. Several restaurants I visited employed people from India/Nepal and these people speak English. Many menus include pictures so point and say “kore o kudasai”. If a restaurant looks crowded and everyone looks Japanese and no English signs then choose somewhere else. There are so many restaurants. Usually the style of restaurant is obvious like Ramen or Sushi. With the Sushi restaurants they always had pictures. I went to a few ramen restaurants with only Japanese menu and I simply ordered the most expensive option ¥1000. Some Ramen place is order with computer tablet, no English option and I used google translate.
2:31 I think shops/rstaurants that shows these kinds of notices should write "fluent japanese customers". Because staffs doesn't dislike foreigners, they just are not good at providing good services in not japanese. They wouldn't be racist. Just my guess though.
When I was in Japan, there were a couple of times when an English menu wasn't readily available but I was able to order based on the pictures and enjoyed the meals.
That's true, some places do have picture menus or sculptures of the food outside where you can easily point to them! These days, in larger cities, many restaurants do ordering via an iPad or similar where you can choose your language too!
I was only in Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama. I did go to some wards in Tokyo where they seem to have fewer tourists. But I took a few snaps of the menus and it translated. Despite learning some basic phrases, it took me a week to feel confident even saying "arigato gozaimasu". So I didn't know any Japanese and still really enjoyed the trip. Especially with the tech on these mobile phones.
Absolutely, the Google translation via photo works well for normal menus until you get to a menu that is handwritten by the 80 year old owner that likes calligraphy 😂
Crivens....it hadn't occurred to me that I'd be expected to finish the extra large serve of oozing lightly fried cod ball sack taddies, when I thought I'd actually ordered a sushi platter!! Thanks again for your practical advice, phew!
Can You Travel Japan Without Speaking Japanese? Challenge accepted! Planning to communicate solely through a series of enthusiastic gestures, confused facial expressions, and maybe a few well-practiced charade moves. Who needs words when you have the universal language of awkward yet endearing attempts at communication? Japan, here I come! 🇯🇵🤷♂🗣 #LostInTranslationAdventures"
Have to admit that would be awesome to go to countryside and have a Japanese man talk in a bad British accent would be the highlight of my trip here hoping. Wow never thought they actually use Japanese numbers, how often do you see it ? お帰りヴァイキング様🧔♂
Pretty often since I live in the countryside! People do forget Japan is not only Tokyo or any other big city! A Japanese mam with a bad English accent would indeed be hilarious lol, I'm sure they're out there!

Absolutely, that will help! Google lense translation usually really helps in a pinch too!

Absolutely agree!

I'm doing Japan right now and used : excuse me, thank you, and hello. The rest is google translate.

Very relatable with the confidence btw, when I first moved to Osaka I avoided human interaction as much as possible!

Nothing explicit huh, now foreigners will be asked to leave after asking to see... well you know.
Will brothels take foreigners?...I'm asking for a friend
😂 Very unlikely
my friend will be dissapointed@@JustAnotherJapanChannel
🤣 I found my way into one in Roppongi, but I was plastered on many cans of Strong and don't remember how it happened lol
If you can’t speak Japanese then you don’t have to talk to anyone
Ultimate introvert win. First time I lived in Japan I got by through grunting most of the time
