@@bulletcatcher5318 Honestly, peated scotch is only a small percentage of all of the scotch that is distilled. A vast majority of scotch is actually unpeated. Saying all scotch is peated is like saying all bourbons have a high rye mashbill. Not all scotch whiskey receives a smoky characteristic from peat. The barrel that the distillate is aged in can also impart its smokiness. A lot of it is actually aged in first fill bourbon casks which doesn’t impart smokiness at all. There are vast differences in flavor profile in an Ardbeg and a Glenmorangie, for example. Ardbeg (from Islay) expressions are peated and have a “campfire” flavor profile vs. Glenmorangie (from Highland) are unpeated and have an orchard fruit flavor profile and, quite honestly, close to the same profile as some Irish whiskey. All I’m trying to get at is that it is incorrect to say that all scotch is peated and therefore has a smoky profile because of it.

Two quick corrections; Johnnie Walker is scotch whisky, not Irish whiskey, and it’s blended, not a single barrel.
So just two _minor_ points! 🙄
One further correction: blended means it is sourced from a variety of distilleries, not necessarily different barrels.
I’m glad someone corrected him but I’m shocked he made such a rookie mistake. And it’s written on the packaging

A buddy of mine bought me a bottle of blue as a gift to enjoy when I came home from Afghanistan. My in-laws drank it...with coke and never replaced it.

I had a chance to try this at a Whisky at a Whisky Convention. It cost me 8 bucks for a glass like you had but it was soo worth it in my opinion

My friend Blue is only to show you have $250 to show off to your friends. Try JW Green you will love it. It is slightly smokey with a caramely taste to it. Only $60-$80 depending on where you get it

Belgium whisky suprised me..brugse whisky company made a champagne cask and canasta sherry cask. Tasted it on a whisky tasting..really good. Hard to get..sold out in 13 seconds but managed to get 1 each luckely
Have you tried McConnell's yet? I just had it last night, and as a newer hobbyist, this stuff is amazing! Both as a sipper and in a coke. I was so pleasantly surprised!

If you’re going to spend in the $300 range, might as well get a Macallan 18 or something comparable and get a far superior whisky. Or spend less on another 18-25 year old whisky that kicks Jonnie Blue’s ass. I once found a 28 year Old Pulteney that was insanely good for $160.
Two questions! 1) When did Johnny Walker move to Ireland? 2) How can you hold yourself out to be a whiskey expert when you don't know where the most popular Scotch in the World is from?!
Having tried about 150 Irish whiskies over the past 10 years due to annual tasting get togethers, I can offer this:
Red Breast 12 yr - this is proto-typical of the genre. Mainstream distillers have a similar taste amongst themselves but when you taste more widely you appreciate how Red Breast reflects irish whiskey. It’s also a damn fine drink all on its own.
Being a bourbon fan, I can tell you also that Kavanagh is my Irish whiskey. It is also not like any other Irish and a lot more just good whiskey.
i love black label, one time i did acid and drank half a bottle of it in about an hour. because of how acid works i didn’t get drunk at all, but i just appreciated the flavor so much while i was tripping

This is an "elissir", you can drink it at any moment of the day, it does not produce acidity. It's an elissir. For casual situations, you can drink black label, but for special occasions, you're better off with Blue Label. It's an elissir.

None can compare to Johnnie Walker Blue Label. A Johnnie Walker Black Label, I can tolerate. But when it is a special occasion, I indulge in a Blue Label, it is an elixir, and the rest are mere whisky. One is for quenching, the other is for relishing.
Black Label is for potent drinks after meals, after meal, Blue Label is for any moment. You can enjoy it in the morning, it will never cause you any discomfort or irritation, that’s how valuable the bottle is.
Johnnie Blue label is the whiskey that every early 20s kid uses as a flex when asked what their favorite whiskey is. They've never had it, they just know it's expensive and has name recognition lol.
as a 24yr old i can confirm. though to play devils advocate, it’s the only scotch my mother enjoys to sip on. If you want a great whiskey, Clark and Chesterfield Maple whiskey
or to larp as Richard Nixon. Mix it with some Ginger Ale and pair it with some cottage cheese and ketchup and the great taste of Charleston Chew AROOO

I have the red label, the 12 year black label, the double black, the 15 year green label, the gold reserve, and the 18 year label, so far the gold reserve label is my favorite 😊

I was a journeyman carpenter, went to electrical line work. I apprenticed as a lineman, "Outside wire," in 1983.
McCallan 1983, (I'm pretty sure that was it), an outstanding scotch, Scots Whiskey.

Yea, it’s the same as the Sinatra Select Jack Daniels bourbon, I can’t imagine how they genuinely made those bottles and confidently and unironically sell them for north of $300, goes to show how far a recognizable name brand and half l assed story can dupe the uninitiated

As others have mentioned, J Walker is a scotch. However, I thought it was expensive because it was aged, not because it's a rare blend. You learn something new every day!
As to the price, I agree. I do enjoy a few single malt scotches but not enough to justify paying over $100. Two of my favorite go-to brands for sipping are Glen Livet single malt 12 and Glenfiddich single malt 15.
But if I'm just serving well-scotch over ice at home, I usually reach for Chivas Regal, Cutty Sark, or J&B (whichever is on sale). Anything cheaper than that is not drinkable IMO.
JWB isnt as good as the Green or the Platinum/Gold/18. It has some rare Scotches and probably some really common grain/malt whiskies to pump the volume up. So like 1 drop of good stuff and the rest is barely legal (3 year old scotch) blend filler.
It is pretty much something to buy for the rich friends who guzzle alcohol to show you wanna flex. There are better blends for cheaper from a flavour point of view.

I stay 5mins way from where the old Johnny walker factory used to be in Kilmarnock Scotland. It was the factory that founded the whiskey itself. It’s now a college campus. I’m a black label guy myself

Walker Blue is blended. While admittedly it's a good blended scotch (compared to most blended), I promise you, the right single malt will change your life.

Sir Brewzle, that bottle is from Scotland. Please give Irish Whiskey a try, I'm not a rich individual so I can recommend a decently priced bottle of Jameson Select Reserve if you wanna give the Irish stuff a taste. The regular Jameson is best when you want to mix your drinks wouldn't recommend it for someone who wants to drink their whiskey neat.

300 dollars for any kind of alcohol is absolutely insane.
Its usually closer to $200. Some drinks are definetely worth $200-300, but JW blue isn't one of them. It should be $120-150.

The bottle is $150-$175 at Costco. It’s worth it. 100 times more flavorful and smoother than red or black JW.
