The NZ try scored by Christian Cullen against Australia, with a double wrap-around, Lomu as a decoy, Umunga makes the break and passes to Cullen - anyone who follows Rugby will know the try I'm talking about ... surely that's the pinnacle of set trick plays. It was a work of art.
1st one from the blacks: the flying half starts offside (no possibility to run forward before the ball is out from the scrum) 2nd one from the blacks: obstruction on Harinordoquy in the lineout creating the big gap for the try. Nice to watch, nicely played, but should be denied.
Dan Carter’s try against British & Irish Lions in 2005…one of the best tries ever. Can’t remember which match but he takes off then as he’s about to get hit he kicks the ball forward, gets a perfect bounce & runs it in for the try. Also, All Blacks’ try where Carlos Spencer hikes it between his legs.
I think I saw about 5 true "trick" plays here - interspersed with forward passes and some good set moves. I honestly don't think a well times inside pass is a trick play - we were doing that in high schoo.
How, with all these clips, is James Simpson-Daniel not featuring once?? Vs barbarians, tricky dummy to beat lomu, speed and step to beat Cullen to the corner. Epic try.
As long as you catch the ball without it touching the ground or another player then you can play on. In fact, it's perfectly legal to juggle the ball all the way to the line and score a try! We don't see it happen because it leaves you in a very vulnerable position. The ball is deemed to be in your possession so you can be tackled at any time. Imagine running, looking upwards with your arms raised, ribcage exposed.... it's like being taken out while you jump for a high ball.
@@joedennehy386 it is permitted. Nothing in the laws to say otherwise, however, the player is deemed to be in continuous possession, so the O’Driscall move is not ‘shear class’ it is obstruction and should have been a penalty. If anything, eg: opposition player touches the ball when you try such shenanigans, it potentially becomes a knock-on.
Also several of those "trick" plays like where Brian O Driscoll causes a teammate to cause obstruction by not passing him the ball and then running behind him. Somehow I can't see that being a legal try. Ref would have called it back for obstruction although we don't see what happens straight after so maybe the ref did call the players back
@@MrBrynmair the ball didn't touch any other player or the ground so throwing the ball and catching it is within the rules, otherwise every time a player fumbled a catch and recovered the ball before it hit the ground there would be a penalty of some sort.
Some of those clips were not trick plays just regular plays. And what with those forward passes that were not checked. Like the one where the Flyhalf turns around and kicks the ball over his head. That shouldn't have been a try simply because a couple of phases on, one of the okes throws a massively forward pass.
It's not really tricks, this is what happens when a team plays as one, all in perfect harmony with eachother, quick passing, players with speed and knowing how to optimise player performance
Shame (and surprise?) we don't see more set play penalties these days - I reckon a lot of modern sides would have no idea how to defend them as they're used so rarely.
Alright, I played rugby for 6 years... does anyone agree with me that in professional rugby they get wayyyy more leeway with forward passing? I feel like every pro game I watch, there are 2-3 passes where it's definitely not backwards, and definitely not lateral. Is that just the way it is, since they're pro, the refs give them more benefit of the doubt?
Yeh it's a rule, when you are the most successful rugby team of all time, the referees like watching you play beautiful rugby, so they don't like interrupting the flow, so you get away with murder
It's funny you say that because it happened against them in the 2007 RWC where the try that put France ahead was from a forward pass that the ref had missed.
Not trick play just planned and trained and trained and trained moves by skilled players The only trick in this vd is the owner of this site does not know much about rugby but is reposting stolen content from someone else content.

Yep, a Wayne Smith special, still haven’t seen anything like it after all these years.
@Raymond O'Connor I think this is yr answer bud: th-cam.com/video/-LBCkW0kz2E/w-d-xo.html
I love that you picked the same try from Stockdale and played it twice, well deserved

Not trick plays. Some of the GREATEST plays ever! Amazing compilation. Great job 👏!!!

Salty salty salty
It was gracious of you to fit one English try in briefly through all of the wonder of slick handling and forward passes.
At least your team got a mention. My Bokke....No tricks up their sleeves.
I haven't seen a rugby game for years! Forgot how tough and smart the player had to be.
Thanks for the reminder.
7:35 Ah, the old _sprint full speed into an Italian brick wall_ trick 😄
Very few of these are actual trick plays though

I agree. Very poor selection. Or just click bait.
Some beautiful rugby but not too many Trick Plays.
Love the videos and channel. Especially great inspiration for a 10
Good selection.
Still waiting for the tricks
The pass made at 1:35 is soooo forward
That's exactly what I was about to write lmao
Many are not trick players but just good running passing and kicking rugby.
There's so many forward passes in this as to be ridiculous, not to mention an inside ball at the ruck is hardly a trick play now is it?
Love it ceep it up❤❤
How, with all these clips, is James Simpson-Daniel not featuring once?? Vs barbarians, tricky dummy to beat lomu, speed and step to beat Cullen to the corner. Epic try.
The 15 players in the line out is the ultimate trick play...
What are the rules for throwing a ball forward for yourself to catch? If it is permitted, I am surprised we do not see more of it.

@@leithscrumhalf4143 Thanks, I didn't know that you would be considered to still be in possession, but that does make sense.

@@martinbennett2228 and so the BOD move here is not ‘sheer class’ it is illegal: obstruction!
I knew a Tony Brown play would make this list
There is a big difference between tricks and skill. Most of these tries are due to skill.
Forward pass at 1:37?
Che placcaggio Properzi!! 🧨
Good to include women rugby in this video. Same sport. ❤
Such a beautyfull sport.
And after a beer.💪
Inaugural match in France 2007. Agulla´s interception, try form Corleto

That first try by Australia was replicated in the six nations 2023...who knows the team?
No Up The Jumper action ?

Merci
A heck of a lot of obstruction in these tricks.
Nice to see Rangi Chase get in there, even tho it's league not union.

Cant believe Finn’s nutmeg didnt make the cut

Several tries early in the video should've been disallowed for forward passes.
You showed the same try twice - 02:55 and 05:39
Amazing how the all blacks are the only team on the planet that are allowed to pass it forward

Strange not to see any Cooper’s trick here
As for the girls one 🫣
Very misleading, not all the try were from trick.
