  • A quick trip out to lake Oologah with me, Jerry Starkey of Starkey Outdoors. I was utilizing Garmins Livescope to catch shad with a 6ft bait buster cast net. The shad tend to hang out in deep water in the wintertime so you need a cast net that sinks quickly. Even with a heavy cast net, you can see on the Garmin Livescope that it still looses half its diameter before hitting the bottom at twenty foot. I have my Garmin Livescope LVS 32 transducer attached to a Sea Lite Pole mount. Fishing out of my Seaark Procat 240.
    May cast net size is 3/8 not 5/8 as I misspoke.

      Thank you. I have since bought a taped net. Even though its only six ft it stays open and I catch more at deep depths.

    Nice video. Surprising how much the net closes on the way down. That explains a lot. We do much better when in shallow water. At 20 feet depth most avoid my net which is same size as yours.

      I agree. In the wintertime they run deep. I catch them way shallower in the summertime.

      You would work a lot less with a taped net. Nice video

    What kind of shad tank you have??

      @StarkeyOutdoors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have a home made one in my shop and one called Bait Buddy I put in my boat. If I bought a new one for my boat it would be a Creek Bank or Extreme tank.

    Net shows on way down, why not on way back up?

      Thats because i didnt have the livescope transduce pointed at it like i do going down. Using both hands to pull up the net.
