I'm sick of the narrative that began about 10 -15 yrs ago that Diana Ross can't sing.. now it's a common sentiment in music culture.. she probably contributed to this by being overly modest about her singing abilities. In reality she was one of the best singers of her era.
I never thought she was even modest about her singing ability, shes said in a couple of interviews that her voice isnt the best but she has managed to have longevity which is what makes her such an icon of our era

Diana Ross is an incredible singer. There are so many facets to her voice and vocal style. The Supremes and she exposed me to so many types of music from Motown to Broadway to Jazz. I get really annoyed with people who repeat the mantra that she has a weak voice. She is one of the most beautiful and subtle singers in the history of American pop music.

i'll never say that diana couldn't sing and anyone who does is a liar plain and simple. as vocalist i love her, it's just the controversy that hangs over her and the whole supremes/berry gordy that keeps me from embracing her wholly but for anyone to try and deny her talent is simply being spiteful.
While looking through YT I was wondering if you could feel emotion from a video. My question was certainly answered when I saw this. And the answer is, "Yes." Awesome performance.

@SereneColeman Diana doesn't have a "blow away voice' what she has is exquisite tone and tombre. But there has been way too much talk about what Diana lacks vocally. She makes it up in other areas in spades!! this is why she has "out-careered" most of her contemporaries.
