This is a great first part to what I hope to be a series dedicated to the cartographic analysis of the Monster Hunter world. Can't wait for the other generations to come later!
Awesome! I'm fascinated by Monster Hunter geography and look forward to your insights on speculated locations. I've been running a Monster Hunter comic since 2006 and have been working on a reboot recently, so knowing the precise locations (even speculated) would be super helpful! Love your stuff, Oceanz!
Because of its location I have theorized that Geo Wandoreo is an early concept of Val habbar, and Rexar is loc lac, the same for Nganka, later it would be revealed as Harth, as it is a volcanic village with renowned blacksmiths. I've also theorized that Melchitta is actually the unnamed village founded by Chief Jumbo at the end of Monster Hunter 2, in the books it's also established that Meruchita is a newly founded village. I don't know how right I am, but that's the impression I get.

I have only started playing Monster Hunter in this current gen, but I quickly grown fascinated by its lore. I watched your other videos and when I heard you were making this one I became very excited. I can't wait till the next one!
So we couldve gotten a MUCH BETTER MH movie if they decided to tell the story about the Hero of Kokoto. But we got the one with Milla Jovovich instead?
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, yeah the maps in the older games may have been “interconnected pieces”. But MAN did capcom make sure they were beautiful, and allowed your imagination to go wild with immersion. Rise REALLY dropped the ball with most of their maps. And world id say at least had mostly good maps. Ironically the recess was the only one I really didn’t like. (The desert also didn’t really have much of an actual desert). The old maps had a lot of care and charm for scenery and immersion, and all done necessarily due to old hardware
Limitations foster creativity, in my opinion. The loading zone style maps allowed for amazing backgrounds that have a sense of breadth even Wilds doesn’t hit yet!
I know they're part of side games, but will you include the Monster Rider towns and locations? There are some impressive town and important regions used in the games. I can think of another complication could com up. That being there's maybe more continents that'll pop up in future generations.
I dont know about you, but i would love to see a mh spinoff of the ancient civilizations before their destruction , we always se the aftermath and ruins but i would LOVE to see them when they were at their peak.
I miss the old art style a bit. The guild maidens with their red and white uniforms and bandannas are iconic. I miss the more modest and rustic look of old monster hunter. I don’t mind the modern-ish looking clothes too much, but it feels more generic in wilds, like a basic medieval fantasy, it’s missing its identity somewhat I think. I guess it can be explained by location though cause every village after dos has had different styles of clothing and culture.
I would argue even as late as Generations we had very unique villages, Bherna didn’t seem out of place from the others to me despite everyone having different clothing and themes. I think the problem now are the muted colors and that, being now part of largar organizations, there is just less variety in outfits and such.
I think potentially that large Western continent we see on the old world map may be the forbidden lands shown in wilds, hence why it isn’t talked about?
I kinda hope there are other "new world" continents. I mean rn it looks kinda isolated from the any other landmasses especially sense from how worlds map makes it look like the hinterlands might be part of the main continent.
5:42 Considering that this supercontinent is somewhat analogus to Afro-Euroasia in this universe, I always asumed that IT specificly was called "The old world"
At 24:45, when i heard that the city's name is Veld, my mind immediately thought of Arkveld. I think its just me, or does anyone else got that ringing bell when they hear Veld?
While I can see there being arguments against it, I do note a striking resemblance between the northeastern coastline of the new world continent and the northeastern coastline of the large southwestern unnamed continent... the mountains don't quite line up, sure, but given the existence of elder dragons like zorah magdoros who could feasibly alter the landscape entirely (as I recall, the guiding lands are the corpse of a zorah magdoros?), along with the maps being made by different cartographers, rhe resemblance is rather striking... Additionally, in the older map which shows just the northeast corner of an unnamed continent, it seems feasible that such a map might have been drawn on the assumption the cartographers were just working with a coastline, and not able to safely venture inland much if any, whether due to mountains or monsters I guess the biggest arguments against the southwestern unnamed landmass being the new world are as follows, as far as I can surmise: 1. The location of the ancient forest, relative to your arrival trajectory at the start of mhw. The fifth fleet reaches the new world by sea, perhaps persuing zorah, or perhaps simply happenning to go in the same direction as it, unaware of it prior to it surfacing. You don't seem to be following a coastline, but voyaging accross the open ocean. You then reach the ancient forest via wingdrake, latched onto from atop zorah magdoros' head... and land at the southwest corner of the new world continent. Given the path zorah takes and its intended destination, wherever zorah came from was likely somewhere to the west, and the fifth fleet was similarly approaching from the west, most likely. If the unnamed continent in question were the new world, this would mean you either were coming from somewhere further still to the west, closer to the eastern end of the central continent (and assuming the landmasses are large enough relative to the world as a whole for that to work), or or your fleet went the long way to get there. The other issue with the idea of that being the new world is that the hoarfrost is rather oddly placed for that to work: that would place the hoarfrost reach, an ice biome that extends to a coastline where icebergs might be produced, as being oddly close to the equator. While I would be willing to buy that the hoarfrost reach is only cold due to velkhana (it is worth noting that there is a cave of ice with a frozen floor, within which one can see fish that are frozen solid, suggesting that the place wasn't always so unforgivingly frigid), that doesn't adress the geographical problem posed by the hoarfrost reaches existence: if the fifth fleet aproached the new world from the northwest, as they likely would have if they were coming from somewhere on the eastern side of the main continent, or perhaps even from fonron or something, one would expect them to find at least some trace of the hoarfrost reach's impact during their voyage: even if their trajectory didn't take them close enough to see the hoarfrost reach, surely they would have seen some of the icebergs or something?
Wait so if the guild isnt actually one singularly entity, does that mean every "guild" has its own set of guild knights? I always thought it was one singular guild with a multitude of branches spread throughout the continent to ensure the safety of populated areas and with the guilds always having the same crests, made me believe further it was still one entity.
I've got several questions. First of all, much of this video seems to be just the information from Gaijin Hunter's Monster Hunter Map video but with added talking to it, outside of the "sources" pop ups. And I'm fairly sure there IS one big hunting guild in MH that oversees all the others as confirmed by 4U.
Yeah the info is similar because we got it from the same books, which is what the sources are there to indicate. As for the Guild, ill look into it again for gen 2, but the way I understood it is that the Dundorman Guild holds a strong authority within the conglomerate of Hunter's Guilds due to how respected the Grand Elder is.
I assume you know about the globe of the world thats spinning in the Val Habar Hub. Did you incorporate that into your speculations about the world map? It is official after all, seeing how it is directly in the game. But it does seem like the central old world continent indeed takes up a large portion of the planet, assuming the in-universe people are correct about the dimensions. But why would they make a globe and not just a partial map, if they didn't for sure confirm they circled the planet and have seen all there is to see?
We don't know yet, though that seems unlikely, as in the demo, Alma mentions that they "came from the west" to the Forbidden Lands, and the base armor descriptions mention that this expedition is taking place "in the far east". My best bet currently would be that the Forbidden Lands are somewhere on Fonron, but we'll get to that in later episodes :D

I guess the biggest arguments against the southwestern unnamed landmass being the new world are as follows, as far as I can surmise:
YOOOOOOOOOOO this is fantastic!!!!
One of the required material for hero's blade require monoblos heart, so yeah, monoblos is more plausible
I was thinking of going to sleep, but not anymore 🤩
Wait so if the guild isnt actually one singularly entity, does that mean every "guild" has its own set of guild knights? I always thought it was one singular guild with a multitude of branches spread throughout the continent to ensure the safety of populated areas and with the guilds always having the same crests, made me believe further it was still one entity.
Thank you
Love ur video great work
Congrats again!!!
Watch his older mh map videos, he did mention it's inspired by gaijin hunter video, and ofc it hold same info bcs they take from the same source
Babe! Wake up! The GOAT IS BACK 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
next cover, every 1st armor in every MH generation..
3:53 forbidden lands??
the Geography I like to learn
2:19 really dude?
You really had to call me out lol
That continent to the bottom left of the old world that’s supposed to be the forbidden lands right?
We don't know yet, though that seems unlikely, as in the demo, Alma mentions that they "came from the west" to the Forbidden Lands, and the base armor descriptions mention that this expedition is taking place "in the far east". My best bet currently would be that the Forbidden Lands are somewhere on Fonron, but we'll get to that in later episodes :D
"Elde" makes more sense than "Erude" since "Eld" means "Fire" in Scandinavian languages.

SAPIENT*
Not "sentient"
We, humans, are sapient, but anything that can feel at all is sentient.
What about where mh stories takes place? We have a map of it and it is canon
Hell yeah
nice content very interesting
Anyone else see a modified version of the Eastern continents (Asia, Africa, Europe, & Australia)?
Song name at 16:20 ? Please.
Its the Kokoto Theme from MH1, specifically the 2014 Orchestra version :D

i still think mhwild take place in another new world
I often theorised that it could be set in the small Aya region, or Fonron
I bet you 50 bucks eventually will learn the world is an elder dragon
"Wait, it's all monsters"
Hell yeah, a perfect treat to end off the week. Thank you for your dedication to your work, Mr. Ocean Man, sir. 🫡 Nothing but respect.
