Your step Dad did a great job raising you tell him you love him and give him a hug as often as you can. My best friend was my father, I was blessed to be in the water with him all the time and crazy enough we worked together for 15 years. He is gone now I miss him every day. The years post Dad just not the same, just saying. God Bless
I am a Gheenoe Dealer in South Georgia, went down to purchase some parts from Sam for a customer and during our course of discussion I mentioned how much I love watching "Key West Waterman" I was rambling on telling Sam know how down to earth and real his channel is, and I refer many of my customers to take a look. Sam chuckled and let me know you are his Son! Keep up the fantastic work with your channel! I love working with your Dad and the customers I have who own Gheenoes. BTW your Stone crab videos are awesome!
Aaron this was a great video. The fact that you worked there when you get and they invited you back to help build your boat says enough about your work ethic. Then we learn he’s your father n law and that doesn’t surprise me either as proof that your good enough for the owners son. With you the best. Great video.
Kudos to Mr. Gheen keeping it old school and still rocking an AOL email address! I miss getting their cd’s in the mail, every other week, and seeing how far we could fling them. Great channel, thanks for giving us a peek into your life.
Da-amn! You can teach a man to fish and all that....but shoot, teach him to build a boat and hunger, home, getaways, and vacations are never a problem! WOW! Aaron, sir...if I may say, you're the coolest hippy out there! Beautiful work! Have an amazing week on this beautiful boat!
The algorithm is working!!! After watching this yesterday 3 different videos featuring Gheenoe boats appeared on TH-cam followed by another 2 this morning(No stress express and Glorious day Adventures 2021 Big Gheenoe Rally)
Thank you for sharing and taking us along. It was cool that you introduced Mr Gheen. I fished in a friends Gheenoe in the late 70's quite a bit. He had an El Camino and could throw the boat, the motor and the gas tank in the back and go. I was a GREAT little boat. Now I'm looking for one to call my own.
Great video Aaron! Not only was that an awesome video on how your new Gheenoe came to life, but you shared a lot of personal insights on how you grew up. Here’s to many, many new adventures for you and Madeleine. Thanks for sharing!
I grew up in Pinellas, my grandfather had an 18 footer w a 6 hp tiller Evinrude. He took my brother and I fishing all the time when we were little. Amazing memories in that amazing boat. Awesome build!
you know i have such a great story with your step dad. he helped me get information on a lost title for a gheenoe that i hold dearly now, he really is a great guy
Wow that was Awesome ..... The Boat looks Amazing ... So cool that you did so much of the work yourself.... Nice to meet your Stepfather and get a little bit of your background...
I remember when they first came out, they had a picture of 3 guys standing on the edge of the boat to show its incredible stability. As soon as i saw that i just had to have one! These boats have always had a great reputation!!! Yes Aaron, a dealer in the keys would be an awesome idea, probably could not keep up with all the orders and business, thats a good thing. Id be happy to come out of retirement if you ever decide to go on this journey, still have a few good years left in me. Ha ha, great vid here, look forward to seeing you use and enjoy this perfect backwater boat!!!
We bought a used boat, with a trailer with a trolling motor. Didn’t know what we had. My husband noted the name and looked it up. It's a 15.4 turquoise Gheenoe ! Rare in southwest NM..but thats what we bought! He did some repairs to it..it wasn't cared for properly.. We sure love it!!!
I've done fiberglass work on some of my old boats over the years and quickly learned that it wasn't for me. I hated every second of it, LOL. Cool build with an awesome result. Thanks for sharing!
Watched the last shuttle launch sitting on a little dock in Titusville all those years ago… love the build, she’s a little ripper that gal!!! Always enjoy the content brother
My first boat was a Gheenoe 1979 Highsider with a 15hp Johnson two smoke. Custom built it myself from the barehull, boy do i miss that thing! Love the guys at gheenoe, they make awesome one of a kind boats. Often imitated, never duplicated! i like to think of them as the Harley Davidson of boats.
Hi Aaron. I LOVE your videos man. You are so talented. I spearfish mostly in Key Largo with my two sons. Hopefully we bump into you someday. You are very humble. Other TH-camrs tend to brag but you keep it real. Damn!....and you reply to all the comments too. You are where you are, not because of luck, but because you worked very hard for it. ENJOY.
Thank you for showing that you are truly a multi faceted man. I can see the pride in your father’s face. He knows you are always going to be ok. Keep it up man 👍
Most of your videos are GREAT, and I learn something new each time. This one, FANTASTIC!!! I too own a Gheenoe. It’s an older 13’ and man, I LOVE this thing!!! I would love to get a bigger model! Thanks for making this video! REALLY COOL! The Gheenoe Factory would be neat to visit!
This is an awesome video! So sick that you used to work on boats out of high school because so did I. Such a sick boat and can’t wait for the back country vids you’ll be posting!
What a clean setup. I’ve got an ALUMINUM freighter Canoe, which are real workhorses of the Canadian North. Traditional freighter canoes is square stern, wooden framed, cedar strip covered with glass. It’s kind of similar type of Boat as the Gheenoe. These types of boats are like the pickup trucks of the North, or the FLA. keys,,,Go anywhere, carry anything (two men, a moose, and all the gear associated with a week in the bush, mostly). But I’ve seen everything loaded into these things. That’s a really nice looking boat, thanks for showing it.
Wow! Loved this video. Glad you mentioned about wearing a mask. My brother n law has done glass work for years amongst other things he should have been wearing for. Just passed at 66yrs old. Died of Mac Lung Disease. By time we talked him into seeing a doctor it was too late. Glad you mentioned the safety.
@@KeyWestWaterman I was in prototyping in my 20s. When I cut the Lego land race track plug in half that was the end of my boat style glass work days. Was a tug of war over polyester shrinking and timeframe to deliver to the customer. Kind of miss it even though it’s a mess of a job.
Really started listening when you said mosquito lagoon haha. I live native to edgewater and drop my 1436 Jon into riverbreeze all the time and fish those flats. Awesome to hear my home mentioned in your video 🤙
As if this man wasn't humble and cool enough, ooooo by the way I worked at the gheenoe factory o yea n the man himself is my step-dad. wow! man wut a story and a damn custom gheenoe too not everyday or ever you see a steering console on the nose cap! Just wow man
Going to Titusville and seeing How the Gheenoes are built has been on my list of things to do for more than 20 years. Had a day planned for it last time I was in Coco Beach and had bad weather. Thank you for showing the ins and outs of your boat build I love watching your boat build come to life. Its very intresting to me that your a part of the Gheen family. Doing things with great detail and quality definitely runs in the family.
Dude such a good video. And clean install of everything. I love that u got to build ur own boat and now make sick videos with it. Look forward to seeing u on the bottom.
Dude this makes my heart happy. Congrats on the clean build and showing love to Sam and everyone in that shop. Awesome folks. "Smooth as peanut butter"

This was super satisfying to watch. I bought my LT10 as a barebones boat, just hull and outboard. Have since rigged it up myself and it was a fun learning experience. One day I'll upgrade to a Super!
At first I was like he has a lot of confidence drilling holes and finishing the boat. Then it was revealed he used to build them! nice surprise in the video.
just finished redoing my 2001 20 ft key largo and put it to the test today. we are headed to our houseboat at Lorelei in Islamorada from Hernando Beach. That's 60 miles north of Tampa. made to Naples this evening. 200 mile run today and 130 miles tomorrow to get to our slip at Lorelei. If you guys are passing by from Key West....come say hello...
Thanks Aaron! Wonderful insight into the construction of great boats. Fascinating your own connection with that company from your early years! Excellent your step Dad too!
Blue Point’s welds always look like perfectly stacked dimes👍. Gheenoe and Blue Point have awesome reputations around FL. Lots of Gheenoes where I live (Vero Beach). Used ones almost impossible to find.
🌴 I’m a 32 yr retired boat and yacht builder, it just blows my mind how expensive boats have gotten since the recession, I looked at an LT 25 it was out of my league as were any of the nice smaller flats type skiffs I looked at so it was plan B find a donor boat and make it your own way , I found a 1965 Cacci craft 11’ ft V-hull with three seats it’s got a 50” in beam and 3.5 in draft they were built many moons ago, the new lay out will have a bow casting platform and rear deck much like a typical flats skiff , now the good part it cost me $250 bucks for the boat and a galvanized sportsman trailer , I’m estimating the conversion will cost me $200 in materials, then the search for a motor already had a 55 lb thrust salt water trolling motor and found a 1977 15 hp Johnson that wasn’t started for 8 months for $200 👍🏼 total $650 not including registration, I’ve got work to do on the boat , New transom but this is going to be a fun build , project mini skiff is in the making 👍🏼
