I don't even have an Allis or Simplicity but I really enjoy learning about this! I have an Cub Cadet Original and many things seem to transfer to an extent. Thank you for putting these videos together Zippo! Al
Tkxs zipper I'm trying to get steering fixed on my b10 and it is the lower drag link shaft but my keyway is so worn out and someone tried welding it that now it's got to be machineed the setscrews not setting into the metal cause it's so rounded out now but I really like the information you share old machines are cool and people like you me whoever need to keep em going
Used parts for these machines are plentiful Mark. If you use Facebook, go there and join the many collector groups. Many of us have spare parts to help others keep their machines up and running. Also, there are collector web sights. Simpletractors.com and Michaelstractors.com to name two. Also great resources for information and parts. Cheers and good luck! Zip~ (Please...not Zipper lol)
Thank you for the video. Got a kick out of your 'go ask someone else comment' at the end. Funny! Have newer Sovereign myself. Noticed when greasing front spindles that giving a few pumps with front axle on ground, then a few with front end lifted ensures grease is distributed both top and bottom of spindle. (May be unnecessary, but works for me.)
Very good point and way to do it G!! Thanks for stopping by! Most of the general maintenance holds through many model years, so I hope this video helps a lot of people with a wide variety of machines. Cheers!! Zip~
The gear on the steering shaft with the u-joint was a problem on my Squire. The bolts loosened up over the years and when I got it, it turns about a 1/4 without the wheels turning. Now that I’ve watched this video I’ll fix the steering
Love your videos Zippo. Will shortening my drag link help get it to stop rubbing on the foot rests? Just picked up a B110 and the drag link rests on the foot rest and also rubs on the tire when turned hard left.
Do not shorten your drag link, it will change the geometry of your steering and won't cure the issue you're having. Here's a steering video I posted that will help you to get it adjusted. Zip~ th-cam.com/video/BKuKxk1XdQM/w-d-xo.html
i have the poor mans power steering on 2 of my machines, thanks for the refresher course. the drag link is old school technology, alot of antique cars used the same set up
I have a 616 hydro and the ball stud came out of the joint next to the front tire .I don't have the same end as you did in this video how do keep it from popping out is there a clip I have lost or something
The type you have, I believe, is set in then the drag link it self has the metal compressed around the ball. I have repaired these with good success by removing the drag link and ball, setting the drag link in a vice, installing the ball, then using a drift punch, I "peen" in the metal around the ball to re-secure it. Best of luck! It can be repaired, but if not, replacement parts should be available. Zip~
Once they're frozen up, they can take a while to break loose. Keep it doused with PB Blaster or similar penetrable solution. Heat from a propane torch can also help break them loose. I know how much of a pain they can be. Best of luck! Zip~
Thanks a million Zippo just the info i needed to get , SET SCREWS!! THANK YOU!
Glad it helped K! Zip~
